Yes, when I turn on the drip line to that section 12 misters go on filling the entire area with spray, just walking into it when they're on is like taking a bath in a 360° shower stall with a bunch of sprayers pointing at you! lol!
Coffee Break #56 Spring is Here!
I know some of my old apples should come down....one tree is completely hollow....but I just can't seem to do it.....
Whatever you do, do NOT read The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. If it does not ID the tree specifically in it I think it is an apple.
DH pruned the 2 Austin roses today. My hands are not strong enough to do so. 'Pat Austin' looked good as it is an own root type. Pegasus looks like it struggled. We will see. I don't know if he looked at his 'Paul's Hymalayn Musk' a childhood favorite of his.
Is that a variation on Genesis, Sally?? ^_^
LOL
{8^ )
Actually
its more like a variation on the Velveteen Rabbit. and makes me choke up just as much. Some of the kid books should have a warning sign-- I can't read em out loud to a kid without bawling!
Shel Silverstein has some great kid books- and I hear he also did some really mature cartoons in his time--interesting mix there.
I just can understand where Robindog is in not being able to cut down a tree.
Cut it down Robin, cut it down! - 'out with the old, in with the new'! Wheee! (lol)
- I have a Granny Smith I want to turn into a recyclable, but DW wants to keep it, (fruit trees are prone to a lot of disease & insect damage...), it's about 8' tall now, I do want to give it a chance, I'm hoping it will gain some strength soon, else methinks it may succumb, (unfortunately..), without any intervention on my part.

Love the Giving Tree, and can't read the Velveteen Rabbit out loud, my all time favorite.
We had an apple tree growing up, my boys had a tire swing in it when they were growing up and climbed to their clubhouse from it. I cried like a baby when it had to come down.
Tree house?? Get Brian on it!
Had to take down and old maple and old willow last fall. Sil is using the maple wood. Left a stump about 12 tall. Base is about 8' in circumfrance. DW has been eye ballin' it getting some ideas on how to decorate it up. It would make some beautiful birl.
forget the snow.

Can't comment on the reuters story. Probably can't say what I want to say that is.
Whats it tell ya , that the Japanese have so embraced Western music, and when's the last time a typical American heard (if ever) any traditional or new Eastern style music
I loved the soing but there is nothing like Benny Goodman. Orientals just a bit to structured and controlled.
I'm skipping the beheading.
Thinking of being not open to foreign music reminds me of this EXCELLENT movie The Visitor with Richard Jenkins. You probably don't know the name but do know the face as playing a stuffy bureaucrat or something.

Can I vent? I subbed in a 3rd grade today.....Friday, kids couldn't get out, so they were itchy....anyway, I earned $66.04 clear working from 8-3:10 ....had a 1/4 of a tank of gas, so stopped at the station nearest the school which has the cheapest gas in town...$3.77 a gallon.....put in $53.00 worth....I'd like to send this to our governor!
Ugh. Make sure you expense your mileage to the school on your taxes.
I only live 5 miles from the school.....Thomaston is one of the smallest townships in CT.....
DD#1 Used to ajunct faculty at a community college. It wasnt worth the trip. They pay $10.00 an hour she has to wait on enrolment to know if she has a job from semester to semester. She has a part time job as a tec. writer.Makes 3 times the teaching.
No wonder teachers are apathetic in sime cases. Students dont get their best .
No money in it, that's for sure.....
Subs make WAY more here.
I was going to say teachers here make more than I do too
Average salary here is now over $110,000 for certified teachers. That is only for teaching. Any after-school stuff like clubs and coaching is extra. Walking the kids to the bus is even extra! They pay zero into their benefits. And instead of even offering to take a cut, many will be laid off the next two years and my kids' elementary school will be closed.
Ajunct faculty is like sub-contracted,no benefits nuthing just pay.
I dont know about public schools,I dont think they make 100G's though.
A good teached is worth what they are paid and there is a checking system in place now so they dont coast thru their careers, They have to perform or lose their jobs.
Where?? Not here. Not in most places. Tenure rules.
The DA here announced that grand larceny charges are being brought against our former pastor. He left suddenly last summer. It was known that he stole some money and had a drinking and gambling problem. Apparently, he used the parish Amex card for online gambling and other personal stuff. These days, my first reaction is, 'at least he didn't molest any kids.' Hopefully.
VG, maybe one teacher makes that much money. I doubt if you'll find more than that. There is usually a special reason.
I live in an affluent community, and even teachers with a lot of tenure don't make those kinds of salaries. The only one who makes a salary over $100k is also the principal of the night school. In my community they publish the highest paid city employees. It is usually police, and the reason they make so much money is overtime.
Of course they pick on teachers. The profession is dominated by women!
Uh, no. I know this from teachers themselves. Certified with masters and other credits brings them to that level. I am very careful about getting facts straight before making statements.
Cops make a lot of money here as well. Way too much, in my opinion.
Teachers should be well paid. The question is what qualifies as well paid and, more importantly, what can the taxpayers afford to pay them and other public employees.
Playing the gender card is just silly.
Oh I definitely say teachers make a lot of money here, DH makes twice what I do and I'm a nurse, plus he works half the hours. It's just not right. And tenure does rule.
Thomaston is a poor town & pays accordingly.....also, I paid into the health plan for years....no extra pay for anyone except coaches, or the AD......my pension has been frozen for 2 years, & last year the state took out an extra thousand+ for more health insurance, so I'm getting less than I did 2 years ago. If I had to choose a career now, teaching would be very low on the list....both Doug & I told our children not to teach...I'm glad they listened.
Sorry Robin, believe it or not we were having a conversation the other day about how we should have been teachers rather than nurses.
It definitely varies a LOT by region and district. And of course Catholic school teachers really make nothing.
Many of my hiking buddies are retired teachers. They all retired in their early fifties, at the latest. Every single one.
It is certainly a tough job. I could not do it. Not with today's rules. I would punch the first kid who cursed me out.
Yes, same around here, Deb. My wife says it all the time.
Don't get me started the subject of teachers in NJ.....really I don't mind some teachers making $ since they have to put up with bratty kids all day BUT when the teacher does something wrong and can't get fired because they have tenure....UGH, just annoys me...
the administrators and superintendents are the ones making WAY too much, the one in our district was making more than our GOVERNOR!!!!
Just found out tonight that a girl that I was in youth group with when I was in high school passed away today from a heart problem.
She was either my age or a year younger.
Sorry about your friend, Jen.
Supervisors make too much here too. Superintendent makes $250k. Happy that Cuomo wants to cap it much lower.
A lot of DH's friends are teachers who retired in their 50's. DH says he could retire, but why when he enjoys it and gets summers and multiple vacations off, etc. It is a hard job, but not harder than nursing, so that's where I get annoyed.
