One of our White-crowned Sparrows.
DAILY BIRD PICTURES, VOLUME 388
Great pics by everyone!
Nanny, I just love all your woodpeckers!
Congrats adel!
Nice pics Rian. Love that Cormorant.
Lily, that white-throated is beautiful. The eaglets sure are getting big-cute!
Nanny, all of your wps are so beautiful-you sure lucky to see them all.
Adel, congrats on the new lifer. The pipits sure don't stand still very long.
Rian, great photos of all your birds. Love that cormorant!
Here's my daily visitor, a female Downy Woodpecker. She's not a bit afraid of me standing close.
Nice ones duc , Lily and red!
Teddy, Hope you see your Pileated Woodpecker soon.
duc............................right about the Pipit. It led me a merry chase before I got a usable picture of it. The lighting was so poor I had to use a slow shutter speed, so lots of blurred shots because it moved just as I snapped.
teddy, that is certainly their type of hole.
Nice shot of that handsome fella adel!
Lily, last spring I observed a juve cowbird following a dove and begging to be fed. I can't really recall if I saw it feed the juve or not, but it is well known that doves are a favorite host for cowbirds.

Oh well, guess I was wrong above! I'd assumed that dove's feeding methods for their chicks ('pigeon milk') were sufficiently different to passerine birds that it wouldn't work.

Thank Red. I recently looked back on my pix collection of birds. I noticed Cardinals with what I thought a juvenile Cowbird last year. It was being fed along with other Cardinal Juvies in the same brood. Being a novice then I didn't realize the Cardinal was the surogate parent. :) Now likes Harvey said ... "Now I know the rest of the story". Thank Resin for the clarification.
Not a great pic due to low light. But, look who was staking out the mealworm feeder today.
Great shot!! I had one go thru yesterday afternoon and try to grab a grackle!! I just happened to be at the sliding door looking out while on the phone & our dog was outside and it had this look of of like ...wow, did you see that momma! lol
Wow everyone! Great pics!
Nanny, so jealous of the cedar waxwings shots. I'm already missing them this spring w/o that mulberry tree. Had a pair of downies and red-bellieds and heard a Pileated Woodpecker this morning but didn't see him, so you are still queen of the woodpeckers. Love that mirror image male/female shot.
Duc, always great shots. Loved the geese.
Adelbertcat, amazing snow geese and cranes.
Reddirt, cool hawk and so excited about your bluebird egg!
Teddy, you're gettin' some cool birds there!
Little_things, wow, love the scenery as much as the birds.
This pic is not that great but it's kind of cool b/c it's a white-morph Reddish Egret with a cormorant that I believe is a Neotropic Cormorant.
Whoa! Red, did the hawk frighten the BBs nearby? Elphy, that's really a neat pix to show Cormorant does sit half-way submerged in the water as compared to other water fowls.
Elphaba, I love the egret and cormorant. It's like, "Surprise!"
