A visit to the Butterfly Farm in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

Quote from SingingWolf :
Don't know what kind of bloom/plant this is but I like it. : - )
Didn't see any b.fly's flittering near it, but it may already have bloomed out.

It looks like a ginger bloom. I've seen them go from that light color to a dark red/orange.

PERTH, Australia

Good thread, Singing Wolf. It must have been an amazing place to visit. That plant you were unsure about sure looks like a PoB to me.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

I had to cheat and enlarge the page so I could slowly just scan the pictures. I will come back and look at every one and read. I promise. I waited for this and need time to savor all of it!

So far? Wonderful job!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Great job sharing your photos so far. I know how tired you must have gotten as you walked through the exhibit. From experience in the butterfly exhibit here, they will never look as pretty in pictures as they do in person. So glad you got to enjoy that!
If you come down to TX in March of next year, I will personally escort you through the Botanic Garden's Tropical BF exhibit. I volunteer there the whole time it is here.
I am sure Dale will be able to tell you what some of the bfs are on the clearer pictures. I love the #31, it looks like the pattern is in 3D! The flowers are interesting and beautiful also.
I will keep watching the thread waiting for more...great job so far.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Singingwolf, these look so pretty. I can't wait to enlarge each one!

#1 White lily does looks familiar. How beautiful to start with a pure color.

#2 Parrots beak, I love it!

#3 I love the orange anthers in the Shooting Star Morning Glory.

#4 Tattered and earning it's beauty. I imagine the white blotches were impresive when whole.

#5 ROTFL over DH with your cane!

#6 Awesome! Love the ''Mum'' color too!

#7 Oh my gosh! Beautiful in flight! I love the movement your photo conveys!

#8 I see how the fluttering does a good job of hiding rather than attracting.

#10 I've never seen a more restful place. I wish they had created more places like that for all ages. Older folks would enjoy one on the ground. But, to see the people sit here makes me want to.

#11 love the drink.

#12 The croton is gorgeous color! I do see the butterfly. I can say I've never seen a red one. Quiet grumble on the kids running too freely.

Your Dad would have had all the butterflies riding on his cap. You could have had all kinds of close-up photos, LOL! But, he was there with you, enjoying you, enjoying.

#13 Nice telephoto for just learning.

#14 Love the landing!

#15 Just awesome!

#16 Love the white veining and the brown edges. I wonder what they feed on in the wild for the colors and patterns they have?

#17 Oooh, he's a nice one, the black one!

#18 I love the flutter greetings!

#19 I like the yellow spots too. I was going to say that in the above photo. And you are getting the hang of the telephoto :o)

#20 Ooh La La! He has quite the patterns and I love the red!

#21 Even the blurs show action rather than a bad picture. It's a very balanced picture in twos!

#22 Smiling over Tom Turkey :o)

#23 He's quite striking with the bow tie on top.

#24 Beautiful!

#25 I wish he would open.

#26 My favorite! The Comma or as I like, The Angelwing.

#29 I love the color of green those butterflies have. Very vibrant!

#31, Very special!! The pink head has to mean something.

#33, Another very neat color!

#34 I like the action too!

#35 I too am taken by the nice flowers and shrubbery for cover and food.

#36 He almost looks like a bird/parrot along the green markings.

#37 Gorgeous native food! I love that pink!

#39 The patterns are really neat! Almost three dimensional!

#42 Another awesome shot!! And another bird in flight!

# 44 I envy you the new smells! I would love to grow that one too!

#45 Birds would explain it. I love how the red shows on the sides!

#46, Smiling, suddenly he looks so little!

#47 Love the yellow marks.

#48 Totally awesome picture!

#49 I love it when the shadows come thru!

#51 Wow! What a face on this one!

#52 Peek! Love it!

#53 Love the splashes of color giving them away!

#54 Very nice shot of the blue! Yayyy DH!

#55 Another nice pattern shot!

#59 Great shot of the yellow pattern, fascinating! Nice legs on him too. Your Dad's touch there.

#60, So familiar. I should know the name! It's beautiful tho!

#64 The Commas are worth it to get them opened.

#65 Gorgeous!

#66 I think Hibiscus are special too!

#67, Smiling over the tell tale yellow!

#68 Neat fronds! Bug?

#70 It's funny how their colors are concentrated over a small area.

#72 Very neat! Exellent zoom on it!

#73 I like it too!

#74 What a beautiful walk. It doesn't feel crowded or like you needed to hurry.

#75 Awesome Dragonfly is my guess :o)

Well, you went a long way to bring back pictures and I felt they needed comments for that alone. What a wonderful collection of butterflies that we don't have here. Thanks!

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Thank you so much for your tour of the country that I will never get to visit. Butterflies and flowers, leaves were so nice to see with these eyes that are so tired of white snow on every thing.
Glad you made it home and enjoyed your trip thru your camera lens.
Rest now after a job well done.

Balotesti, Romania(Zone 5a)

Jules, wow! Great pictures, such amazing butterlfies and plants!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks everyone for your comments.
billyporter, you crack me up. What a pal, and thank you for the gift of your comments. Still cracking up about the Tom Turkey #22, my own self. LOL! : - )
Adina, you are one the best friends a girl could have. : - )
Maxine, it's a real pleasure to help you live vicariously, please stick around for the rest of the photos, and remember I went to three different b.fly farms. So there is a lot for to warm your heart yet to come, since I will be posting a thread for each farm.
: - )
I probably won't ever attempt another trip like the one we just returned from. The toll on my body is more than anticipated.
I planned on finishing up with the tour of the B.fly farm in KL today, and while the spirit is willing the body is tired. I am planning on working on it some more tomorrow. So much yet to post, just in KL!
It took less time to actually visit the place than it is to post all the photos and my comments.
I do appreciate all of your comments too, and hope you'll check back. Some of the best stuff is yet to come. : - )

Thanks for your patience everyone. I'm going to be posting off and on today, since I do have chores that need doing too. (Rats!)
One of the nice things about the B.fly farm in KL was their use of artificial ponds and springs, and as you saw earlier that cool waterfall. : - )
This is where I tried to get a photo of some nishiki goi, or what is commonly called coy fish in this country. Over there I heard them referred to by a tour guide as Carp, which they truly are. : - )
I guess the oldest known one is over 200 years old. They don't ever stop growing until they reach the size their pond can maintain, but free in the waterways they continue growing as they age. Fascinating innit?

That's a huge container full of plants in the middle of that pond. : - ) They had railing around it so you couldn't actually touch the water, but the plantings are nice, and the goldfish are pretty.
: - )

More goldfish and more island type planters.
#78

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Another view, but this time you can see some of them pink flowers. : - )
#79

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Yup, I'm pretty sure this is some kind of a Dragon fly. : - )
Kinda burgandy colored. I think it's pretty. : - )

Boy, can you believe how big and how many of them fish there are? A nice lady from India was feeding them, with her kids. That's why they are gathered like that. I didn't take a photo of her, (except I did get an inadvertant shot of her feet, and you don't want to see them!), because I was raised that it was rude to take photos of other people without their permission.
I guess I've always liked nature photos better than people photos. : - |

Aw, look it's our friend the dead leaf, b.fly. : - 0
#82

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Zoomed in on some of the gold fish.
Great view of the moss growing on the side of the "pond". : - )
#83

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Sure are colorful aren't they? Not as many in this photo, but these were the big 'uns. : - )
#84

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

A pretty red flower, and I think a b.fly is hiding in there, but it's hard to see.
#85

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Same plant, better photo. : - )
Did you notice how chewed up the leaves are. The butterflies, breed and feed in there, and it's good to watch where you step, and mind what you see. : - )
Surprises are often where you least expect them. : - )

A lot of people probably think this guy is ugly, but I was really happy to see the detail so clearly on this photo. : - )
#87

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I guess he's the ugly Duckling of the B.fly world, but I bet he's a great survivor. : - )
Anyway, he likes the attention, and now he's posing for me. : - )
#88

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Um, I think we have an intruder alert! This guy isn't supposed to be here. But what the heck, neither was the Dragonfly. LOL! : - )
#89

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Part of the creek system, and more gold fish and plants. It was cooler near the water. : - ) Just think of 90 degree (F.) Temps, and 100% humidity. Don't forget the mosquitos, which weren't bad in KL. : - )
#90

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Almost still water and a kind goldfish posing. I think the water is approaching a bridge here, as I see the pilings. Should have taken a photo of the bridge but it had a bunch of people on it.
Now does that appear to be oil on the surface of the water on the left side of the "stream"?
Just curious, because it appears that way to me. : - )
#91

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Another gf, and strange reflections. Not to mention the b.fly in the upper right hand corner. : - )
#92

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

The water is a lot more turbulent here. I don't know if you can see the flowers in the upper left portion of the photo, it also looks like a gf is hiding under that foliage. : - )
#93

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Doesn't this photo say Serenity, to you. I mean look at the ripples from the water drops coming off of the waterfall. See how clear those gf are! Doesn't it look peaceful and serene. Well it mostly was. : - )
#94

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Well isn't this a pretty one? There are a couple of others hiding nearby, but they are hard to see!
: - )
#95

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Did ya know he has a red head. LOL! Kinda reminds me of my ES. : - )
#96

Just had to play with the zoom. : - )
#97

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Still playing, gee this one appears to be a brunette? : - )
#98

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Maybe the red only shows from the top side of the b.fly?
#99

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Sadly, this little b.fly was getting a drink when someone who was not watching where they stepped stomped on him. : - (
It really bummed me out to see how many got stomped on.
#100

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Same kind of b.fly as is in the previous photo, but this one is alive! : - )
#101

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Another view. I'm pretty sure this one likes the attention too! : - )
#102

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

See I told you it was posing! : - )
#103

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

This b.fly looks like it's had a few close calls with a bird. I really like the survivor types, it only increases their beauty. : - )
#104

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

A thirsty b.fly. : - )
#105

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Similar but a different b.fly. : - )
Must have been a favorite gathering point. : - )
#106

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

If I remember correctly, I was so excited by all the colors on this one, I didn't even try to focus, I just took the photo, and hoped for a shot before the people nearby caused it to fly away. : - )
