Time for a new thread...here is a link to the previous one http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1157371/e .
It looks like the weather is going to be great for the next week...almost like spring and I am very ready for it!!
Here is a cute little American Tree Sparrow.
Daily Bird Pics. Vol. 381
So nice rose!! I would just love to get a Harris's or Savannah Sparrow!
Photo contest type shot of Elvis.
Found that we have 2 white throated sparrows at the feeder area, not just one.
Nanny...I would be happy to send you a Harris or Savannah Sparrow but they are few and far between.
Carla...your ground feeders look just like mine!
Burn...what a beauty of a bird...I am losing hope that I will see one this year...boo hoo!! At least I can enjoy yours...thanks!!
Congrats on the WT Iris!
Well, I finally realized a 3 year dream of having the Northern Flicker come to the feeders. Here is a female that has claimed the suet feeder as her own.
I remember when my Northern Flicker first showed up, I was elated! I have to try to find some way to keep the squirrels from eating the suet cake, the crushed red pepper did not work, they went after it more than ever. I hate to stop feeding suet because I love to watch the woodpeckers eat, but I can't stand guard and scare the squirrels away. Have to think about what to do, what to do. Can't afford a upside down feeder, money is tight right now, thought about making one, but don't know about that either.
Teddy...here is a link for making your own upside down suet feeder. Maybe this could help with your squirrel problem.

I'm jealous Nanny...I sure wish the Pileated would eat in our yard!!
I just had a Loggerhead Shrike land in the dead tree...hopefully I'll have a pic to share later. It isn't a very big bird but sure scares everything off!
How do you keep the squirrels off your suet cake? It looks like it is just fastened to the tree, don't the squirrels get into it?
Rose, Congratulations on getting the Flickers to the feeders!!!! Wonderful pics!
Great shots burn, Loonie and Nanny!
Male House Finch, Teddy.
My goodness Rose! Look at all those birds. How big is the shrike compared to others? I can't believe you have a thrasher. I only get them in the late spring. omg, I said spring!! what torture!
Nanny, you are for sure a show off with that Pileated! Ha.
Wonderful start to a new thread dellrose! You have some real beauties there! Congrats on your Northern Flicker especially!
Loonie... your little group is really nice!
Burn... I just adore that Redpoll! They are such gorgeous birds!
Nanny... I am always envious of your Pileated coming to the feeders! Lovely shot!
Teddy... pretty little House Finch!
Gardenpom... your female Cardinal is a beauty!
Weather is warming up nicely for a few days, and I was able to get down by the river today. Saw a Belted Kingfisher and a Red-tailed Hawk but could not get photos of them.
I did see a Pileated Woodpecker working a Sycamore tree... not the greatest photos, but I was so excited to see one!
Congrats on the Pileated Woodpecker. Always a thrill to see them.
Great pix Duc. I love those nuthatches too. I haven't seen one in a while, though they are not very frequent visitors anyway.
Food supplies here must be getting scarce because I've been going through sunflower seed in record time.
Mrs. Ed, I have to work with what I have, ya know!! lol
Things are finally thawing out here and it is now manageable to get out, so maybe I can go bird looking Monday at some fields! Did see 3 Horned Larks & 2 Red-tailed Hawks today on the way to the In-laws!
Teddy, yes my suet feeders do hang right on the trees & there is no keeping them out of it. In the warmer weather I use the no-melt pepper suet and they don't like that but during the winter I just accept they will eat it too. If it gets too bad I just move all the suet feeders to the baffled poles for awhile. But I hate doing that now that the pileateds are coming regularly!
The regulars...Cardinals, House Finch & a House Sparrow.
