This will be my snow depth measuring thread.
There is a Tin Chicken on the table.
We are due for temps above 30* for the next few days, almost a week.
Watch as the chicken appears.
I know the Chiapet thread wasnt a huge success but I promise to post daily changes of the deck table.
Just for fun.
No one but a winter depressed person would do this.
Watch for the TinChicken
You're speaking to an equally depressed winter person here, Jo....bring on the chicken!
Just something to do instead of eat everything in the cupboards without taking note of "sell by" dates
hahahaha
DON'T EAT THE TIN CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
must be a small chicken - pnly looks to 4" there at most
Maybe it would be OK with potatoes and carrots and celery in a white sauce even if it is small.
Groaaan
Bill: Just for you I ventured out onto the ice with measure tape. I stood in a drift and measured 8 inches.
Let's all be polite and not make any double entendre jokes...this is a garden site !!!
edit: my poor spelling of a french phrase, from my misspent youth in Jr. High French class (sleeping???).

Ummmm - have you met Victor?
There seems to be a parallel between Boston area and Victor.
No, I'm just frustrated by cabin fever, so I write incendiary "brain droppings" (a George Carlin reference) due to 3.5 feet of snow, with no escape.
It has nothing to do with the leg irons I'm wearing as I sit here in Alcatraz.
(wink)
I love the "brain droppings " remark. Its perfect.
Cabin fever is overcomming me too. I am working on an invented project to make drawer knobs from clay. I am remodeling the vanity in the bath( contractor not me personally) GF has a clay studio and will let me come over and play.
it is 8" deep ON the table? can you go out and measure again :)
I thought the drift was 8" and not the buried chicken. We'll find out with ge's next post.
Oh BA you're at Alcatraz and Victor's at Sing Sing or was it Attica?
"Hell is hell" when you can't see around snow banks just to pull out of the driveway!
(Yes, I realize the folks in Buffalo or Fairbanks are thinking, "what a buncha wimps.")
Usually I only get cabin fever from early March to early April.
It started a full month early, and the snow pack won't melt soon, I'm guessing.
Bill: I was borne at night, but not LAST night.
I measured at the edge of the table and eyeballed the tape. The snow was frozed about 2 inches down when I tried near the chick.
Eyeballing for an artist is as accurate as you can get . Engineers would disagree but tough noogies.
I feel your pain. The drifts at the driveway edge are frustrating. It's not that bad here altho it has been in the past. Zone 6 is due for higher temps Sat and Sun with 40's for a few days next week. I am hopeing for some grass showing by next Thursday.
I'm snowblind in my parlor and go to the livingroom to watch TV without glare.
I cant believe we are picking over these small details but confinement does that.
So pretty, Pixie.
Cabin fever here, too, though we have a huge expanse of visible grass in the back but nothing but snow in the front, which faces south and west. It's feeling like a punishment by now.
I want to see grass....punishment, YES!
still have at least 3' of snow on the ground everywhere and expect a couple more snow storms at least before a real melt down.
and where is that daily shot of the 8" (4") snow pack on the table?
I saw dirt in my yard today. SO HAPPY TO SEE DIRT AGAIN! I bet it is frozen. Drat.
Just viewing the earth is such a good feeling - frozen or not. The warmer weather in the next few days can change it from frozen to mud anyhow!
ok now that is a picture that shows off the 8" layer :)
How big is the tin chicken?
Great outdoor photo...cats, fresh air, and thou (a Shakespeare rip-off.)
How great that we all realize that Nature bestows gifts, even though it can be in small increments.
Thats DD on the deck duering the silent part of the day.
what is dirt? I haven't seen any.
I think I can almost remember it!
Its another day and warmer than single digits.
Its still dark but asap I will check for the cocks-comb
It will be a great day in May when we can all see the cock's comb.
