Van Gogh??

Thomaston, CT

Scottish fold?

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

looks like a Scottish Fold to me.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I like the Cornish Rex and Devon Rex too. I wouldn't mind finding one to adopt!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Not a pet, a feral I call Groucho. He was watching me shoveling the driveway today. He's very agile walking the length of the fence.

Then he spotted Sarah, my dog.

He was quite safe with 50 feet of 3 foot deep snow between them.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very cute!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

He's a big boy. By the looks of his left ear, he's been in a few battles.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Venu, the snipped ear is a veterinarian code for being 'fixed', no more babies. Ferals are hard to catch, the ear snip is easy to see.
This is Whitey, a very social feral with the best attitude I've ever seen in a cat. It could make anyone a cat lover. He showed up with a bad eye about 2 years ago to work his way to second place in the hierarchy. He's a hoot to watch, very smart and active.

Is that a Massachusetts thing? I used to be a vet tech and never heard of the snipped ear. Your new addition is a very handsome guy, and looking extremely content!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Never heard of that either. Thought they snipped something else.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I never heard of that either... amazing how they can walk long the fence like that

East Bridgewater, MA

"Groucho" needs a cigar and a long coat.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Ear tipping is done by TNR groups (Trap-Neuter_Release) so that they don't try and catch already fixed cats.

I have very, very mixed feelings about feral cats; I want to feed them so they don't freeze, suffer, and starve to death during the night, and yet I wonder if putting them "to sleep" is an answer to the problem.

I just don't know...I want to be a good humanitarian, but none of the solutions seems perfect.

I welcome any comments from people who have thought it through, because I can't figure out the best way to handle feral pet populations.

Any ideas would be welcome, since I make (modest) donations towards this problem.

(Please don't criticize me, I just want to help.)

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Our neighbor feeds 6 or 8 ferals. Any new ones get trapped and 'fixed' at a local shelter. He donates time doing maintenance at the shelter for free neuterings. The cats live in two old garages with stacks of hay for comfort.
His feline fetish started when an old lady in the neighborhood died with a few ferals she fed. He started feeding them when the old lady's house got torn down. He learned soon enough to stop any more babies. It was so sad to see mom with 3 scrawny runts following.
He has not had kittens in a few years but new cats show up now and then.
This is Mindy. Not social.

Not sure which one this is, possibly Moris.

I love Groucho.....he's a big boy! Reminds me of an old cat Max, had him BA....before airedales.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

It's nice that he gets them fixed to stop new ones.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Wow, Mindy is GORGEOUS, looks plump and freshly bathed, not at all like I'd imagine a feral cat to look

South Hamilton, MA

Yes, they should be neutered. One wonders where they all come from, I hope not dumped 'pets'. the problem is that they catch & eat many songbirds. & around here they are caught by coyotes. I would rather have the coyotes catch the woodchucks.

Thomaston, CT

I take the dogs out twice a day, if not for a walk, a ride.....with this weather, don't know when I'll get out again! Even chew toys won't placate them!

but love does

Hee Hee! You are most welcome, Pretty Patches!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

all the babies are sooo cute

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Mr G is one handsome devil! And patches makes me want to get a bunny♥

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Celeste, Patches reminds me of April ^_^ Okay, I'm having a problem lately. Jack has one side of the bed. I have the other side with 75 lb Dexter, 65 lb Casey and 5 pounds of a kitten jumping all over each of us. 6 hours of sleep has become elusive!

Sherrie, Mr.G has a face to love!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Could be worse. You could have a jumpin' Jack!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Who says that would be worse ^_^

Has anyone here had any experience with Embrace pet insurance? I have looked at all the various kinds of pet insurance and am considering Embrace for the girls. If we had had it before the hospital visits, we would be ahead by $2,000 today. It seems to be one of the few that includes well visits as well as hereditary & congenital issues. I'm interested in anyone's experiences with it. Thanks!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

no clue most of the plans I looked at don't cover the office visit.. sometimes that is the expensive part

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

None here, Louise. Definitely worth looking into.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Take a look at Embrace's different options, Allison. It may be pretty expensive for several dogs though. Our girls are probably good candidates for health insurance with their favorite snacks all being poison. lol I called and found out that they are also covered when we are in NH or traveling anywhere. Some of the plans don't allow that.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Does one year premium cover seven years?? ^_^

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I wish!!! lol
