sorry evelyn crossed posts
Plant Propagation part XXVII based on my own experience
Dave how do you grow Hydrangeas when it gets so hot there? I was giving one to me on my birthday and I have no idea where to put it. I have never seen one grow here successfully. Will it bloom in dappled light or with a lot of shade, so I can take the temp down? Mine says good to 90 degrees.
I have 12 yogurt cups with bubble lids going with my petunias. I have some lettuce going and banana peppers as of today and some guillardia and something else that illudes me. My WS officially has begun. Early for me, by about a month or 6 weeks. The others are in zip locks. I just don't feel like cutting the water bottles this year at this point.
It is 4 o'clock and it is still 64 degrees. It was probably 74 earlier.
Sharon is quiet she must be the same as me. Our weather is usually about the same and a day or less off of each others high and low pressure influence.
Hey Dave, Looks like an albino kangaroo of some sort. What is it really, I do know it's not a rat , eweu.
Thanks for the kind compliments on my rugs, and of course Stormy. Yes he is getting training, what little can be done givin the weather. He fetches, drops, sits, waits for the next throw. House broken almost 99%. Walks on a leash pretty well, but until the weather changes, he won't know too much about the rest of obedience. Our rec/bar room is about 30 ft long, so that is what we are working in. He does the rest outside in the back yard when he isn't transplanting.
Lee
It is so adorable.
Lee you hit it on the head. albino kangaroo..... I looked at the oic after i took it and it looked like a huge rat or RUS rodent of unusual size.
Dawn we plant them on the north side of the house in medium to light shade. right now the ones i have containerized are in full sun but hey I know it not to hot for them and hopefully when it comes time I will have my shade up for them. I like to run from50 or 70% shade because the things needing high shade can tolorate it and the ones needing more light usually take the med shade.
I planted 4 different kinds of hydrangea in the north bed along the north wall of bricks. I should have drip irrigation installed. I have the fittings and all its just getting outside on nice days and getting it done.... basically i have to get my lazy butt up and moving ... lol
lee i can see the wheels in storms head running... he will be one smart cookie. i doubt you will have any trouble getting the training done. My parents have a scotty that does a Hi five... its so cute... and their trat is mini carots but not too many of them though... well I just finished my hot coco and its time to lay down for the night.
Tomorrow high upper 40's lower 50's then rain and highs in the 40's ... I will be watering my flats allowing them to drain then move them into the garage so I can stick cuttings at the dining rm table.... on thick towels of course but hey what ever to make it happen. If my plugs do well this year I might get out of the woody ornamental cuttings and go with plugs only. If I do it I wil have 2x the space to grow and make 3 - 4 times the $$$$$ ... time will tell
albino peacock
I voted for an albino Wallaby too. Looks more like a white rat. LOL
I recognize Kim Dave but have never seen a picture of you so I am assuming that is you with Kim??? Now I know who to bug about different things. LOL Know who I am talking to.
I am anxious to see your petunia fall Dawn. Sounds great. From the way you described it I think I know what you are telling us.
Well, it seems everyone is worn out now and ready to hit the sack. ttyl,
WELL!! Here I thought everyone had gone to bed and guess who wrote??? Dave!! Well, I cannot imagine any reason why hydrangeas would not do well for either of you guys. I have to worry about them freezing here.
We cross posted Dave.
I have seen the albino peacocks here Dave. Very unusual.
Mini carrots for treats!! You know I put 2 lbs of carrots in the dogs food when I make it up. I had no idea until my sister told me that they love them. Also put a bag each of beans and peas in it. 4 Cups of raw rice and a whole chicken or 7 or 8 drumsticks and thighs. I do debone the chicken. Bob does not like them to have chicken bones because of the way they break. Kind of shatter into sharp pieces. Or, some times I put a chub of hamburger in and use beef stock. I make all my own beef and chicken stock.
This stuff lasts them about 8 or 10 days by adding some dry dog food in with it and any left overs or table scraps.
Also a dozen eggs poured over the top and then I bake it for an hour. Looks good enough for our dinner. LOL
Nite.
Where did you guys all go? I took a shower this morning. Used mouth wash,. Not much else I can do to not offend you. Wash my mouth out with soap maybe. Haven't been talking dirty lately that I know of. Oh well. Maybe you are all sick in bed. Must be catching. Please keep it at home.
Jeanette
Jeanette, Everyone.......I have been watching and waiting and no one is writing. I too feel I have offended you. Please let me know who I need to apologize to.
I am still alive, my heart is still beating and the Toprol is now down to 12.5 mg. once a day and I am tolerating it. There is no lower to go. Oh well.
I hope you are all happy and well. We are going to have a rain/ice storm tomorrow morning. Can you believe it. I could just s***. Ooooooooops...I said a no no. That is why I am being blocked, for sure. I do not care except I miss you. Hugs.
Jeanette, I think we have lost everyone. I have been checking inbetween sewing, and no one. I hope all of you are OK. Isn't it funny how we get so used to chatter that we really miss it when it isn't here.
It is snowing again, big flufflies, Oh well, it covers the discolored snow!!!
Lee
JB we were of a like mind and cross posted. Glad to see you are OK. Sorry about the snow, wish I could melt it for you, then maybe mine would go away.
If they can't take a joke with the *()_^Y^% guess we will have to all clean up :) Kinda hard to do at our age, tho.
Lee
I spent most of the weekend in bed. Ear still not right; some upset stomach; ankle slightly painful. No bad pain, just no energy.
Today I had Tony take me to town. There was no one at the interrmitent American clinic and the local clinic had a long line of people with appointments. The local doctor whom I saw once or twice has moved out of town though his wife is still here, according to Tony.
I said if I don't feel better tomorrow we'll make the thirty-five mile trip to Santa Rosalia where they have a good clinic with short waits. Then I was struck by an maybe-only-in-Mulege thought - let's go see Ruben the pharmacist. I told him the ear drops (and warm oil) had not completely done the job and did he have an anti-biotic he could recommend for an ear infection. He did. I took the first dose this morning and am already feeling better. Ruben's expertise may be the reason doctors don't stick around here.
Saw neighbor Tom when we got back and we spoke amicably. I'm to a point of just being kind of disgusted with what happened. So unnecessary. I've been looking at pink flamingos on eBay. Also found flalmigo lights.
Still feeling weak but I've walked a little around my property which is more than I've done in several days so I think I''m on the mend.
I, too, was wondering if I had offended anyone (everyone?) as no one seemed to be posting.
Maybe this will help break the ice as I miss you all even when I''m too out of it to post myself.
hugs, katie
Katie you have Dmail. Sorry the darn ear is still bothering you, maybe the antibiotics will do the trick. Maybe I should send Storm down to teach the neighbors a lesson :) I do know how bad ones can make a person crazy.
When I first talked to neighbor Dana (Tom's wife) I warned her about the gossip here. I told her I could tell her stories about most of the other poeple in our little area and I could tell her what they would say about me. The only thing I DID tell her was a warning about a possible rapist. Otherwise I said, I have too much work to do and no real interest in participating in the neighborhood gossip. She agreed with me but I think she has made another choice. The neighbor before Dana and Tom seemed to hate me. So I guess I've moved up to contempt. Wow.
hugs, katie
Gosh Katie, 35 miles isn't bad to go see a good doctor. I go into the clinic for minor things, 14 miles but there is no dr. there. A pretty good PA tho. (Physicians Assistant) Kind of like an RN. Actually he is better than most doctors around within 40 miles. But, to go to my primary doctor I go 100 miles. Now to go to have tests that is where I am going tomorrow. And that is an entire day.
I guess actually we are better than a lot of forums. Like the Strawbale forum I look at, they don't post much all winter. Once planting heats up then they burn up the airwaves. Things like recipe forums, crafts, etc. they are clacking all winter. Nothing else to do.
Katie men either are worse gossips than women or do none at all. Since Tom spoke fairly friendly to you, I would say he is the later. So, he might be the better one to talk to. He just might tone his wife down. Sounds like she loves to get into the hen parties they used to call them. That would be fine with me. I never did much socializing with neighbors anyway. Probably 'cause I was always working. That way we got along just fine. A friendly wave etc. was good.
We had a little 2 year old girl next door that would go from house to house going on the back porches and take your mop and go drag it down the street and trade it with the next house, and keep going to the next house. We always knew where our mops were. Now people would be horrified to let a little one like that go around the neighborhood by herself. Back then, we just thought it was cute and funny.
Kindergartners and first graders would walk a mile to school by themselves. Can you imagine that now? Those were the good old days as Archie would say. Remember him?
Well, guess I woke people up. Now you can go back to sleep.
JB with the lower dose are you feeling less weird?
I have considered a straw bale veggie garden this year. I am still milling it around. I hear mixed stuff on it, but the idea of not having to stress over where to till and if rabbits will get it, how will I get water to it...sounds good as a temporary commitment to veggies in that location.
If you do Dawn, use Alfalfa bales rather than straw. They will take a little less water, but also less fertilizer. I understand there is a big difference in them. Let me know if you decide to and I will get you the link to read. But, there is tons of information in the forum. We have been doing that for several years. I only grow tomatoes in mine. But others grow a lot of things, cukes, squash, melons, etc.
Morning, It is pouring here now, the snow stopped and the ice formed and now the temps are above freezing for the first time in weeks. Not for long. Thursday we are to have snow again. Can you believe this?
Wish I could answer your question Helln, I am not sure how I feel. I think I am mental.
I have so much anxiety and depression starting all over again I could scream. I am not fit to be around. I am tolerating it better, but I feel funny at times and I am not sure if that is the time release or am I having a panic attack. I hate this. I must get my s*** together.
NOW!
I have a barn full of animal feed now. The distributor was two hours late getting here because of the roads, but he is here and unloaded and now I need to get out in the barn and separate the stuff and put it into containers the rats or other critters can not get in.
I do not feel like doing that now so I think I will just play with my new phone. I got a very user friendly Samsung Zeal and I like it. It is not a real smart phone, but then I was afraid with my arthritic fingers, I would be frustrated with the touch screens so I am sticking to the keyboards. Off I go, into the slop outside to see if I can get to the greenhouse. The water has no place to go and everything is a mess. Hugs. JB
Please be careful JB. What doesn't get done today, gets done tomorrow :)
Remember the other critters count on you for their feed also hehehe :)
Yep, know the feeling, had horses and etc out in Maple Valley, had to fight the undesirable critters too.
Just be careful
Lee
I am about to set a trap for that darn coon. He takes my supplies. Spoons, little containers, knives....anything I have on the shelf where I feed the barn cats from. Little sucker is looking for big time trouble.
I am not going out again. The feed barn will have to stay messy until it stops raining. I just turned the heat up. I am chilly and do not want to catch a cold. JB
Where is dave?????
Howdy:
sorry I went silent. I was awoken yesterday am by the doorbell... fed-ex with a cute little package It was the size of a flat and lite as can be. yep it was my cuttings. Luckily my niece had the day off from school so she helped me knock them out. I managed to put them all into the greenhouse. all nicely snug and happy. well watered and looking chipper. Its funny as they looked like they were just cut that am... oh the joy of overnight shipping. the box also had a sticker that said usda inspected. I am guessing they were looking for some of the fun critters that could really tear up our plants in the us.
ok the breakdown is like this
Phlox - Emerald Blue; Emerald Pink; Scarlet Flame; Candy Stripe
Perovskia atriplicifolia - Fern leaf Russian Sage
Veronica - Sunny Boarder Blue
everyone went 3 per pot except for the veronica as they were huge and went 2 per pot. I hope to have them on the market place this may and I need to get $1.85 per. I guess my question - Is the price correct for what the market is?
I amanged to squeeze all the flats into the greenhouse as I have yet to build my hoop houses (PVC) and if I can get away with waiting till next year i will do it. I hope to have heat cables on the ground under all my plants so they will do well through the winter.
its kind of funny as we are in the off year for snow and ice. I will take it when I can get it. we run like that. snow and ice heavy for a few years and then a light year or 2. there is no telling how the year will shake out untill we get into late January/febuary. I know last year i waited till the last min to pull everyone out of the grouping because it just felt like mother nature was not done with us... and boy was I right. we got dumped on big time the 1st part of april. of course the feb/ march temps were 50's and 60s so I knew we were not through it.
well its a rest up day so I will check back later today.
Dawn I am glad to hear you are on the mend with the ear ache.
JB: have you tried the toporal at night??? I know I switched both diovan and toporal to night time and its made a huge difference. It really knocked down the # of pills I take in the am and my night time meds well they are a huge handfull anyway so one combo pill wont make that big a difference. We need you around to keep us on our toes
Luckily we had a decent day yesterday as it was in the upper 40's almost 50. today is another situation all together. its 35 at the moment and we are suposed to get all the way upto .... wait for it ...... 39 ... heat wave tropical heat wave .... we are suposed to be in the 40's all week excepth for wed/thur which will be just above freezing..
The one bad part about the weather being like it is ... is that I have to water by hand as the hoses and pipes all have ice in them and wont clear till its a lot warmer. Its a real pain as it takes about an hour to do everyone. I am just glad I have everyting on timers for the rest of the season.
Oh yea I forgot all about the little suprise i had waiting in the greenhouse. I have a few things that have broken out and started to grow. I did a flat of lavender seeds from Kim's dad's house as well as some Kousa Dogwood seeds that are sprouting. I've never done lavender so it was a huge suprise as to how easy they are to sprout. now if they will just fill out in time for spring planting... hey what am I saying??? I will be happy if the don't freeze out before the spring thaw.
The dogwoods are a great thing to see as I bought the seeds in hopes that I can sell them this year as seedlings. I know the kousa are a bit harder to come by and are highly prized tree's. maybe I might do a small bonsai out of one.
well thats about it for my chatter this am. I hope everyone is doing well and happy. I can tell from the pics storm is one very lucky pup and in hog heaven playing in the snow.
The pic is the albino and a grey kangaroo
Dave
jb here is just the ticket for the little night bandit
http://www.growersupply.com/live.html
Hi Everyone,
My ear is getting better, I think. I didn't sleep well last night and I'm trying to stay up for most of the afternoon so's to be able to sleep tonight.
My friend Manuel gave me two cheramoyas that were sprouting. I planted them behind my compost box and both are growing. I've started several of them but have never kept one alive long enough to get the fruit.
Someone asked about citrus keeping on the tree. It keeps for a few months usually. Nice they don't need to be picked all at once.
I've been reading some of the other threads on this forum. Also watching my DVD's of Quilting Arts TV. I'm actually beginning to think I may have some energy again some day. Hope springs eternal.
Wish I could magically transport all of you down here to enjoy our weather. It is warming up a bit. It's sunny and clear. Our skies are an incredible blue. So is the Sea of Cortez.
Tony might have a touch of the flu. I told him to take it easy and go home if he needs to. He did a lot of raking up leaves and general neatening. I have yacon crowns and we need to prepare some beds to plant them in. All my little tomatoe plants died. I am still concentrating on trees and perenial edibles so the truck farm type crops suffer. Some day I will be able to doo it all, for now I do what I can.
hugs, katie
hmmm:
truck farm: question where do you get the seeds for an f150 or even better a peterbuilt ? how long does it take to grow the truck???? I would think you would need to have fertilizer high in iron????
WoW Nice to see some chipperish posts for a change. Not that we can't take the rest but I think we were getting in a funk on here.
Dave brought the sunshine and planting and then Katie started feeling better,
JB got her butt in gear to go feed the animals and separate their food before the raccoons ate it all.
and to top it off Dave had a funny little poke at Katie's truck farm. Bob said to add the WD-40 with the fertilizer on the trucks.
I got a good reading from the Ultra Sound on my legs today. The woman that did my bone density test measured me and I have lost 3 1/2 inches in height from Osteoporosis. But other than that it was a fairly good appointment.
We have had temps in the 40s or near that almost every day for a week now. So that is what you guys can expect.
Jeanette ~ I feel guilty for having this heatwave here. It was 60° again today. We took the fence apart, since we were expecting the "tree guy", to fell 2 huge pine trees in the garden. Then we put it back up after we got the call that his BP meds were making him feel woozy. Hopefully he will be better tomorrow. I actually did a little weeding in the square foot gardens, though the soil was still quite soggy. If it is nice, maybe I can do some more as well as amending.
JB ~ See, you are not the only one who is ill-affected by their BP meds. Are you better yet? Sorry you are feeling so crummy, and it is cold. I know what that is like, though it doesn't actually get quite as cold here. Still if you are feeling awful and have to out for the animals' sake, then you just have to do it.
Lee ~ How is Stormy doing now? Is he learning any tricks? Got any new pictures?
Katie ~ I have had trouble with my ears all of my life, sometimes worse than others. Now I have ringing in them. I used to have such good hearing and now the inner noise muffles the outside sounds quite a bit. I hope that yours feels better by now. In Mexico, your pharmacist can do a lot more than they can do in this country. I hope that he was able to help you.
Dave ~ What can I say about the truck garden that Jeanette (and Bob) hasn't already said? ^_^
Dawn and Sharon are probably warmer than all of us. Still, I am not complaining to seeing the sunshine as it has been snowing or raining since November. Now we can enjoy a few days of dry weather. Not sure if it will last for the soil to not be soggy. I hope to do some more weeding as well and start my seed-sowing soon.
Evelyn, that is the one thing I envy you all for is that you can get out and stay fit while working in your yards longer than we can. I know, Jb gets out and walks the dog. I need good weather to get out.
Have you had your ears checked Evelyn? I did and found out I had a hole in my ear drum (Like I didn't know this before) so they wanted me to wear a hearing aid in that ear. They thought i was crazy when I said no, let me try one in the ear I hear out of. That worked better, but not enough to bother with.
I still hear the background noise more.
But Katie's ear hurts. Maybe you should try an antibiotic Katie. You might have an infection.
I asked about the citrus fruit on the tree. I find that very interesting because most of the fruit up here has to be picked when it is ripe or before for shipping I am sure.
Howdy:
one thing i have noticed is i get a loud white noise when I am missing a couple of pills in my coctail for bp. well i have to get my meds soon as they are really messing up my brain...well sleeping pill kicked in time to go nighty nigt.
Dave
Well, I am here, in sunny Las Vegas. Yesterday was 74 degrees and broke a record for that date. We are just about 20 degrees above normal. Cold front is coming in mid afternoon tomorrow and our temperatures will be down 20 degrees. BUT, I had a wonderful two days working on the garage pants. I re-potted 7 and still have many more to do.
I had a pleasant surprise. I had many new cannas that were delayed in potting. I have about 8 per 15 gallon pot. Two pots. I dug one canna up today and new eyes were forming. This made me smile.
Dave a question for you. Do Tropical Hibiscus like to be root bound? I have to look that up. Of course, I am asking the questions after I unwrapped the roots and transplanted into larger pots.
Lee, Stormy is adorable.
Katie, your ear should not still be hurting.
JB, you do not scare me. You are just one lovable teddy bear. I am so sorry for your wet cold weather. But that is the reason everything is so Green.
Jnette, 3 1/2 inches is a lot to lose. How tall were you at your tallest. I was 5' 5 1/2". I am now 5' 4 1/2 inches. My dear friend that just had her 4th hip surgery has lost over 1 foot in height. She is my age but looks old and she says feels old.
JB does not look anywhere close to her age.
Evelyn, I got your magazines but have not opened the package yet. I am saving them for a special morning. Probably this weekend.
I have items coming everyone's way. Some seeds, some plants, but they are dormant so will only need to be potted.
Dave, I saw you had a "BLUE' flowering plant you are growing. I need to Google it and see what it looks like.
Linda and Dawn. Where are you?
Our wind starts in February. Drives you crazy because it just pushs you around the garden.
Thank you all for all your thoughts. Last week was a very sad journey. My baby brother has always been my greatest supporter and love me unconditionally. To see his heart so broken was not and is not easy.
Love you all. Sharon.
I did not get on yesterday and have been up with the foster dog who has an ear bothering him. Dave I don't think I said my ear was bothering me, but thanks for the well wishes.
You growers must be taking orders for spring about now, real good?
I hear that most of the citrus plants froze this year. Produce will be high with all the damages from freezes here and mostly in Fla.
Hi Everyone,
Feeling better. Slept long and well last night and it makes a huge difference in how I feel.
Also, though I was not in a very good mood I had enough energy to do some significant clean up in the kitchen/living room that is my main habitat for the winter months. Progress, not perfection.
Hope the snow and ice are meling and things are warmer for all of you except Sharon, for whom I wish less wind. We sometimes get serious winds here and it gets old fast.
I'm soaking some morning glory seeds. I have trouble adjusting to the planting schedules here.
Tony was not feeling well yesterday and is almost an hour late today - if he still doesn't feel well I hope he stays home. I love that there is no urgent work to be done and neighbor Dana hasn't been over to remind me of what we "should" be doing. I say we should be enjoying our lives as much as possible now, not holding off until she is satisfied - especially as that would be NEVER.
I cleareed my kitchen table and found the flannel and the pattern. Maybe I'll get started on my nightgowns. The three that have survived the last few years are falling apart. Warm flannel nightgowns are one of the great things in life, I think.
My ear is almost all better. I'm taking the antibiotics that Ruben suggested. And, yes, pharmacists here can sell lots of drugs that are prescription only in the States. There are two kinds of pharmacies. The second kind can sell the narcotics and stuff - with a prescription. Ruben has the first kind and sells most everything else. He's a very nice man. I've known him for over fifteen years now. I tend to forget how long I've been here but taking a moment to appreciate some of the many good relationships I've developed is very good for me. It takes time here, especially with the local Mexicans who tend to be leary of all Americans. I knew I wanted to stay here so I put some effort into it but always went slowly. It has paid off big time.
Time to move around before I freeze to the computer chair.
Thinnking good thoughts of everyone.
hugs, katie
Hi Everyone, I am still around, I just got slammed with things to be done around here for the past couple of days. They started a new semester at my son's school and so all of his classes changed and now there are new supplies to go buy.
I haven't been out to the greenhouse in a couple of days. I let him water it for me, so I really need to get out there and check on everything.
I have been extremely lazy, not worked in the studio, or the greenhouse. I guess I am just taking a mental break. LOL I think of things I need to do, but then don't. I must get out of this mood.
Hydrangeas do well here, but they must be put in the shade in order to bloom well. I have a couple of citrus trees, but they haven't ever bloomed. I think it usually freezes here before they bloom.
Is anyone growing agapanthus? If so can you tell me if it blooms the first year from seed? I have some space that needs filling and I thought they would be pretty with the peruvian daffodils. I love the strappy foliage.
Also has anyone ordered unrooted cuttings from NC Farms? I was thinking about ordering some things too, but don't know whether to get the cuttings rooted.
Well, I gotta get moving, or I will accomplish nothing.
Hope everyone feels better and has a great day.
Linda
Yes, a couple of years ago I ordered SPV cuttings from NC Farms. I had bad luck with them, but I cannot fault the NCF. Anyway, when I told them what was going on, they replaced with rooted cuttings, and shipped at no charge. I was very impressed, and would not hesitate to order again. I would order the rooted ones, simply because I honestly think the ones they sent were very small, and hard to start. Any company that stands behind their product even when the fault may not be theirs has kudos in my mind and I will return to that company. Hope this helps, Linda
Katie. do you have any Cobea? It is such a wonderful vine. A strong grower, but it blooms so late here that it ready for winter and cold weather by then.
i am not sur I have any seed left, but if I do, and you want it I will send it to you. I am sure you probably have it already tho because it is a Mexican vine.
I will look anyway. I would think it would be too warm down there to wear flannel nightgowns. My mom always had flannel sheets on the beds in the winter in Idaho, and to this day I do not like them. Funny. 'cause my sisters all use them in the winter.
Sharon, I don't think your friends loss of height was caused by the hip replacements. Probably like mine, Osteoporosis. I also was 5' 5 1/2", same as you. Now. 5' 2".
Hey, anyone see the weather report for Thurs. and Friday in the East?
Jeanette ~ I almost forgot about my loss of height, from 5' 6½, to 5' 3' until my sister said,"Evie - you shrunk!" when we took a picture together at the high school reunion. I have not had a hip replacement. I guess before we were about the same height as I did not ask her what was her height.
Linda ~ Yes, I have plans for projects that have not yet materialized. I understand. I keep thinking that it is a "winter thing", but I suppose it is if I am feeling well enough to do them. If I get a good night's sleep more that 2 nights in a row, I am ready to "conquer the world" - well, my world anyway. I am hoping that I will sleep well again tomorrow night as it has been a while for the sleep issue.
The hydrangea bloomed well last year, but this year will be the test as the deer have nibbled quite a bit during the winter. I tend to miss timely sprays, so I blame myself on this one. I had "Endless Summer", and it bloomed for at least a month. I would like to see it grow large, so maybe I will spray it today since no rain is predicted for the next few days.
Jeanette ~ Yes, I have had my ears checked. There is nothing the doctor can do about the ringing. When I am not feeling well, it gets even louder....
I am like you, if the weather is bad, I will stay in. Why go out in the rain or snow? No point, and even if it is cold. I am such a wimp. It even takes really warm weather for me to get outside, and then in the summer it gets too hot. At least you don't have that problem. I have a hard time staying out in the heat as well. I guess I am like a tomato, liking it warm, but not too hot. Oh, I have been meaning to ask you, have you ever grown blue poppies? They are ideal for your climate. If I lived there, (the PNW) I would have millions of them.
Sharon ~ It is good that you are "back"! Still it must make you feel so helpless regarding the suffering of your brother. No, blue poppies cannot take your heat. I think you could grow the blue creeping phlox that Dave is growing. Both Mary and I want some of that. I have a very small amount of it, but it does grow slowly.
Katie ~ Glad that you are better! There is nothing like a good night's sleep, and when you are in pain or discomfort of any kind, you rarely get it.
I must go now, but may be back later.
~ Evelyn
Blue poppies?? If Jeanette can grow them, maybe I can also. What do you think Jeanette? Maybe we should try and find seed. Do they reseed like the regular poppies? I have tried to grow some of the regular ones to no avail. Maybe it is just me, you know, I have problems with some plants that the rest of you grow so easily.
Lee
good afternoon:
hmmm only blue flower I can think of is the emerald blue phlox. unless its something I've grow regularly every year.
Linda I would think twice before ordering URC's from NC farms. They are tiny but they use the bigger trays with smaller cells so they work for them. they use a 105 cell tray. NC farms even went so far as to put up a warning page on size of the urc's. I will try to look for some pics I took last year. you might be better off doing plugs and then taking currings.
now with all that said I did have good success with most of my cuttings. it just took 3 times the time to have plant ready for resale let alone to go into the garden. What are you looking at from them???
I was very pleased with my cuttings out of guatamala even though they were a bit smaller than I expected they still had enough meat on them to go into 1801's
we have a running joke about my height. it depends on how I am feeling and the time of day. i tend to get shorter as the day goes on.
Linda email me with what you are looking for maybe I might have an alterative source
you know I've driven a lot of places but never can I figuire out where they come up with the odd ball numbers for a speedlimit. we have an exit off the turnpike that has the same speed limit as is posted at busch gardens....give me a break
