Plant Propagation part XXVII based on my own experience

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

What are your double knit rugs Lee? Do you hand knit them or do you have a machine? Would love to see them. Can you post a picture of one?

How do you keep them away from that Stormy???? Or is he out planting in the snow? Oh boy, just wait until there is no snow and he is digging in the soil.

Wow, -25 and -10!! I would definitely head south. Especially if it was that and we lost the furnace like we did the other day. It was only 1 degree. Can't go the minuses.

Stay warm and safe. Like Sharon said, watch the carbon monoxide.

I love caladiums but they don't do well here. I think they might if I gave them more care but I call my place "Darwin's Garden." Definately survival of the fittest. I've also lost a few daylillies but may try more when we get the east side arroyo ready for plants. It's about the coolest spot here and has lots of shade.

I wen to sleep about 5 pm yesterday. Got up to take meds around 7pm then slept until 7 am. I'm feeling a little better. Sleep always helps. The dogs cuddle up on both sides of me and we all stay warm.

Tony is back and working in the arroyo. I took a pain pill and am about to get dressed and join him. Someday soon we need to make a trip to the dump for old tires to make paths and fences. We have some bouganvilla planted and growing well. It's almost ready for some vetiver plants. I have to be slow about planting and do only what we can take care of at one time. The bouganvilla doesn't need much attention now so I can add something as the space is ready.

I think I'll be moving some of my epis down too the arroyo, too, as they are growing well but taking up a lot of space in my little plant room. Lots to do, not much energy.

Hope the snow is melting for those of you who have it. The birds are here and wanting to travel north.

hugs, katie

Katie:
i just went to the site and it seems you have a super plant. I wish we could get it to do well here. our cold snaps would be too much for it though. its pretty kool how it does so many things in such a wide range of growing conditions. I especially like the fact that it clens up (acts as a filter)water, rivers streams and ponds. Acording to the seller it is a clumper but with such an agressive rootsystem does it make gigantic clumps? the site showed a women standing next to a 2 year old root system and the roots were longer than she was tall. Just how big do the clumps get?
Have you tried pampas grass? I know here it takes all we can give it and just askes for more. of course you have to give it a steady stream of watering as it dries out. I was watching one of those "reality shows" where they were chasing down the illeagles crossing into the usa. well i spotted wild pampas clumps growing in the fields of sw texas. so I would assume it should work for you as well. uits pretty easy to grow from seed. just plant about 10 seeds per cell.

Jeanette: you asked about the best spot. I hope I hit the supplier on the head. well thats where I will buy mine. also note they do take shade. in the shade they are not as big as in full sun but I think if you could give them the first 3/4 of the days sun light followed by shade in the sweltering heat of the afternoon they would do their best.

well off to get my pump refilled

We are in a warming trend. Almost seems like spring after the last couple of months. I am sure it won't last tho. And they are calling for freezing rain.
The rugs are probably different than any you have seen. This style is sewn into strips, then sewn onto a middle , and then a backing is sewn on it. These can only be made with the old fashioned double knit fabric, that they don't make anymore, at least that is what I have been told. I find it in thrift stores when I go to Seattle to visit my daughter. I will say, they do NOT wear out. They don't fray either. I have some my mother made about 20 years ago that are still as good as the day she made them. When they are finished they are about 2 " thick. I mostly do them in ovals. If I can figure out the dumb camera I will take a picture for you. But be patient with me. I used to buy it for Mom when I lived out there, and now guess where it all ended up---yep--here. It made for quite a bunch when I combined it with mine. Lots of it for quilts and rugs.
Stormy is still replanting my back yard. Hopefully we will have him trained by spring so he won't dig dirt, but I won't hold my breath. He is house trained now tho. Hasn't had an accident for over a week so that is a good thing. Still can't get my Barney and him together tho, he is just too much of a puppy for my little old guy. They do visit through the baby gate, so maybe someday, until then, it is a house divided, DH in the "bar room-rec room" and me in the main area.
Later, Lee

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Katie, what are vetiver plants? Sure wish you would send us a picture of the tire walls.

Dave, I couldn't find any prices for the plants on that site. They did have a lot of nice plants.

Yes, we are warming up here too after we got about 4 inches more of snow today. At least it says it is going to be in the 40s starting tomorrow. At least in Spokane it is. Maybe some will slop over onto us.

Lee, I cannot even visualize the rugs. If I had an idea what the fabric is I could watch for it also. GET THAT CAMERA WORKING!!! You guys that have cameras and don't know how to work them really bug me. LOL

mulege, Mexico

You can read about the vetiver plant at www.theherbcottage.com. As Dave mentioned, they make a very deep root system When we do get rain here it is often the side effect of a hurricane which means it's torrential One foot of water in ten or twelve hours. What Tony and I are trying to do, among other things, is set up a series of paths and terraces with little valleys to slow the water down and encourage it to soak into the ground rather than runoff to the bottom of the arroyo taking whatever soil it can with it.

I did a lot of this at the last place I lived and it worked. When rain made gullies in the dirt road, it soaked into my garden.

My darn Geico payment didn't go through so I have to call them again tomorrow.

My ear is much, much better but the problem went on for almost a month so I am trying to refrain from feeling I should instantly be all better. I did help in the arroyo this morning. The plan is in place enough that the work is coming along fairly rapidly. I'm still working on doing my own thing with the house and grounds and shaking of my neighbor's endless criticism. I can only help that she is as critical of her husband as she has been of me. Let them have at each other while I get on with my life.

Looks like another early night for me.

hugs, katie

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the BD wishes. Ev thanks for the magazines, got them yesterday. You are so cute. You have each one so carefully wrapped, it is like breaking into Fort Knox. Once I break in, it's like Christmas when I see what is inside.

Us western states are having our time at the high pressure in the attmosphere now and it was about 70 today, and this weekend is supposed to be near 80 or in the low 80's. Which will be great. The nights in the high desert go low, though, no matter what the day is. Even in the summer nights.

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Dawn ~ Not quite that warm here, but have been having rain instead of snow. 55° this time of year is like a heat wave though. I am glad you liked your package.

Katie ~ Thanks so much for sharing that very interesting info on Vetiver. It is the name of a fragrance by Guerlain, which I sold in a cosmetic dept. in a department store in the 60's. I always wondered where it originated. Many interesting facts come out in these everyday discussions. I hope that you are feeling better. good wishes are being sent your way. (Better call that gecko!) (She may not have those TV commercials, and if not, she will have no idea what I am talking about!)

Jeanette ~ How's your weather right now? Do you still have lots of snow? Not sure if the warmer air mass got that far up the coast. It's hard to tell when the weather is being reported. I know the east is getting pounded now with bitter cold. (And Lee, too!)

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Don't know about the east. JB has not complained yet. LOL

The warm weather has not hit us yet. Tomorrow maybe. We got another 4 inches of snow today. So, maybe tomorrow. Suppose to be in the high 30s or 40s the next 4 days. That will be nice. Another $40 for plowing the driveway today. Darn!!

Bob wants to get a 4 wheeler with a blade on the front to do it himself. Yes, I know we could have paid for it in 2 years, but where do you put another piece of equipment. We have so many things now.

I am just afraid that it will sit here and not be used and will still pay for the plowing. Don't know.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Morning Dear Friends, It is freezing cold here today. No wind, thank God, but really in the single digits and hopefully going up . The weather dropped another 10 inches of snow on us this week and now it is to snow another few inches Sat. and Sun. then again next Tuesday. etc. etc. etc. I have given up moaning and groaning because I do not have the strength.
Today is the first day I felt any where near normal since I took toprol last Sat. I am going to the chiropractor at 10 and then to the family doctor to discuss this medication problem. The heart doc. now cut the toprol down to 12.5, and I am willing to give it a try again, so if you do not hear from me over the weekend, you know why. Actually I am hoping it works this time. If I need it I want to take it. Three pharmacists told me NOT to take both the Toprol and the Diavon at the same time. I must take one at night and one the next morning......the doctors never mentioned that. What the H do they expect the normal person to do........read their minds. That is scary to think they do not tell you how dangerous that could be in a case like mine where it bottoms out my BP.
Anyhow, sorry I have nothing about plants to discuss. I have lost interest in everything at the moment and hopefully that will change when I feel like normal again. I did look through all the seed books last night and found some really neat seeds, but then I can not grow seeds so that was time wasted. LOL
I am off and running. Later. Love you all. Hugs. JB

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

morning all: getting round 2 of the steroid shot today so This is my post for the day.

Katie have you thought of putting in plastic pink flamingoes and the cheesey whirlygigs shaped like flowers? that might make them shut up... just a thought,

we are in the 40's during the day and cold at night. we are suposed to get a blast monday and boy do I feel it ...of course could just be the back in overdrive.

not much to share for now
Have a great day
Dave

mulege, Mexico

I love you folks. You make me laugh.

I saw the pink plastic flamigos on ebay at a fairly esonable price. I might get them. The neighbors have shut up for now. I haven't been over to see them and she hasn't come over here. When I do see her I will tell her Ii've been sick since before Christmas which is whne my ear started hurting. My ear still feels weird but not painful.

Dreamed I inherited a whole bunch of money. It still wasn't a feel-good bream so it wasn't so bad when I woke up broke.

Tony is here and we will go to the dump and look for old tires and whatever else looks good. He's not feeling great either. After knowing each other for fourteen years, many of them working for me, he will finally admit when he's not feeling his best.

Dave, I think pampas grass would probably grow her. Right now I'm doing the vetiver for the deep root system For erosion control.

The sad thing about my neighbor - this thought just popped up - I know who she has talked to about me and I know what they have said. They've done it with other poepl who have now left town because they lost all their "friends." My friend Mel told me, "I've been here thirty-three years and I know five people." And when I first talked to her, shortly after they moved in, I warned her about the gossip mentality of many people here. As I said to her then - I have too much work to do to engage in this... (fill in JB word that would get me in trouble).

Enough for now. Must get dressed and hit the dump.

Big hugs all around, katie

Pawleys Island, SC

Hi Everyone, We are having a warming trend. It is supposed to be in the 50's during the day and 30's at night. I can deal with that. I have a lot that needs to be done in the greenhouse so I think I will go turn the heat on high for a little while. LOL
I am ready to get some seeds started. I know it is still a little too early for anything but wintersowing, I just feel the need to get my hands dirty.

Katie, I like the vetiver grass. I can send you lots of seeds for pampas grass if you are interested. Glad your ear is feeling some better.

Dawn, I want to come visit! I could sure use some 80 degree days right now.

Dave, Take it easy after the steroid shots. Those can be brutal.

Jnette and Lee, sure hope it warms up for you. I don't know how you can function in those temps.

Gotta get started, or I will do nothing today. Have a great day everyone.

JB, please be careful with that toporol. I hope you don't get more snow.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

hi all:
yes taking it easy this weekend. I am used to them but they are tough ones to deal with especially when the dr has to thread the needle in a small gap of bone where everything is fused together. good thing the gave me versaid and fentenal. I am like the little piggy...weeeee weeee weeeee ..... weeee .... weee weeee ...night all

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Boy aren't we all something!!! Sounds like we are ready for the old folks home not the garden forum. Think propagation everybody!!

I have had my cuttings form the brugs in a bubbler which I have never had any problems rooting and crap, only a few of them have done that. I wonder if it is because I made the cuttings several feet long instead of the usual 6 to 12 inches. Ya think?

Dave how are yours doing? Haven't heard from Dawn lately but last I heard hers were doing real good. One of mine was growing all over it and had a few roots so I planted it. Hope it takes. Don't know about the others.

Well, we spent the day still working on Bob's mom's stuff. The realtors got an offer on his mom's place, a mobile in the 55 and over gated community, this week. He has turned that over to his son to take care of and said he could have the proceeds, so that is good. So things are winding down there. He will be real relieved to have it all taken care of. Guess we all think we have done the best for our heirs until something like this happens and we find out how much there really is to do.

Guess I will make an appt. with the atty next week to do a new will.

Now isn't that where I started this post out? At the old folks home? LOL, you all have a good weekend. Our snow is all melting fast and even at night the temps are suppose to be above freezing so hopefully we will see a blade of grass soon. Then comes the robins.

And work!!!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

The one is real leafy and the other is starting to take off but I wiggled them a bit to see how rooted they seemed and the leafy one is real secure and the other seems more fragile, so I think the roots are smaller and that is probably the reason that it is later and slower in leafing out. Both are doing great if I don't rip the roots out giggling them to see if they have good roots. DuH.

I am waiting for March to put it out under a tree and let it get used to the outside, maybe April.

You are all welcome to come and enjoy the 80 degree day but you know next week will be 34, we just had snow. Our wether is scizzophrenic.

Oh I am enjoying my magazines. I think I am good though for a while. I feel bad that you spent so much on postage. I did not pay attention to the total but tell me and I will send a check for postage Ev.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

LOL, gee Dawn, I didn't know you were willing to take magazines!!! That darned Evelyn beat me to it. What kind do you like? All gardening? Let's see, the receptionist at the clinic already claimed the "Do it Yourselfers". The ladies in the other drs office claimed the, wait a minute, how about the Birds and Blooms?

I think I have some of those, I really do like them. I have Countryside but I have been keeping those for about 10 or 15 years. Gee, maybe I should send some of those to you.

Well, let me see what I have. Or do you have enough from Evelyn for a while? LOL

I buy mystery books at the library book sales and yard sales and take them to the VA hospital when I go down to Spokane. They seem to appreciate them. At least we get letters of Thank you from them. I doubt if they want magazines or I would take them some.

Dawn do you like "Taste of Home"? I think I have some of those too. Let me know 'cause I am taking them to Drs. offices when I go. The patients in there seem to appreciate them too. LOL, even I look at them again. Anything but what they have. I am sick of Time and Newsweek. I watch enough news on TV thank you.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

You are funny. I told Evelyn I'm being cremated with my old magazines.
I had a Taste of Home, so don't need any of them. I love the Garden Gate that Ev sent me. I had that one years ago and forgot how much I love it. Got Container Gardening? I have a lot of herb books now and read them cover to cover and marked them, but I believe I am good on that front. Just renewed Sunset Magazine. I don't have time to read books if I want a social life with you guys.
I choose you guys.
Thanks Jeanette and Ev too.
Sharon are you gardening this weekend? Are you supposed to be in the 80's or there about?

mulege, Mexico

Tony and I had a successful used tire hunt yesterday. Didn't find much at the dump but a local tire shop had a huge stack they allowed us to help ourselves from. We came home with the van loaded with tires. The one brug that has done well for me has about six buds on it. It's a white called "Temple Goddess." I have maybe eight others that are hanging in but have never bloomed. I am, however, the queen of dragonfruit. When the arroyo is ready for plants ther will be dozens of dragonfruit happy to have a new home with more space. Then maybe I'll get some fruit.

Think I need to find an escapist book or two and stay down for a couple of days. My ear is still nagging at me. Also my ankle and my stomach. Will skip over other symptoms and veg for awhile.

Will pick red grapefruit and lemons for my friend Saul to sell in his store if I get any energy.

Our weather is warming up a little. I'm reminding it to move north.

more if I wake up, katie

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Morning ,
It is freezing cold here. Wow, no going out without a hat on for sure. Outside Birds are eating me out of house and home. I ordered from the distributor yesterday not only exotic bird seed, but cat food, outside bird food so I could get a discount on the delivery charge. They have raised that $30 since the gasoline prices have gone up so much. Man the little guy is the one who gets screwed every time. It is now$50 delivery charge. Imagine. I can do nothing else, it costs too much to ship it by USPS or UPS. Oh well. Get rid of the animals.

I am going to purchase three French pink pussy willows today. I hope I get as much joy from them as I have from the black ones.

Be back later, the bird groomer is due any minute. Love ya. JB

Pawleys Island, SC

Katie, can you leave your dragonfruit out year round? I have several, but they aren't hardy here. Every fall I have to move them into the greenhouse and pray the heater keeps them just above the point of harm.

JB, I know when I had all of my birds, I would go to a feed and supply store and it would take 150-200 lbs of seed per month. The wild birds and squirrels ate as well as my parrots. I miss my birds, but I know they got a good home, so I don't worry about them.

I am working in my studio today, trying to get it organized and de-cluttered a little, and then we are going to Mom's to do the same for her.

Dave, I hope today is better for you. I know steroid shots are awful.

Gotta get going, will check in later today.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

What is dragonfruit? Sounds interesting. Katie, can you leave your citrus fruit on the trees and pick them whenever you feel like it, or do you have to pick them at a specific time like when they are ripe. Do you know what I mean? I suppose there comes a time when they are overly ripe and they will drop from the tree?

Dawn, I used to subscribe to Sunset, but they got so overloaded with advertising that I hated looking thru all that for the articles so quit taking it. I still get their emails trying to get me to take it again and that was probably 10 years ago. Probably mostly advertisers that subscribe and that's all. LOL, mostly.

JB and Linda, I used to feed all the animals, domestic and wild both but it got to be more than my grocery bill for myself so decided something had to go. It was not going to be me since if I went then nobody would get to eat so I still have 2 dogs and a cat and I suppose when the time comes they are costing me more than my own groceries then maybe they will go too? LOL, not really. But there is a limit and that is mine.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Is everyone O.K. No posts yesterday except Jen's and DG was very quiet. I went over to cubits to see what was going on there, I just can not get acquainted with the set up there and I find it very confusing. Needless to say, I did not stay too long. I tried but became frustrated and left again.

The weather here is very cold today and I am doing better. I feel the 12.5 mg toprol will no doubt be o.k. It seemed o.k. yesterday and I took it in the morning after breakfast. (as told by the doctor) They do not want both the Diavon and the Toprol taken together. Anyhow, all went well and we will see how today goes.

I have plants that need attention but it is so cold to keep running in and out with them I am just holding off to transplant them. I wish it would at least go up to freezing one of these days instead of the 20's and then the winds pick up and the wind chill is brutal for me. Now I know why so many old people go South.

Hope you are all o.k. I have not been too active or talkative lately, sorry. I just seemed to be gloomy and doomy. I must try and improve my mental attitude. Off I go to take a cold walk with Barney. He is a bit under the weather today and I hope the cats will cheer him up. He actually reacts to me and my moods. That is scary. LOL Hugs. JB

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

mornin:
not a good night last night so i wont be on line much today. yesterday was beautifull high upper 50's lower 60'. kim is fighting alergies so we will get that figuired out so she can stop coughing.

well have a great day
Dave

mulege, Mexico

I stayed in bed most all day yesterday. Read two books. Tony is also not feeling at his best. He did the dishes for me which is always a treat. He doesn't like the job any more than most of us do but he's also willing to do what needs to be done. Otherwise, he cleaned up some in the yard. I reminded him that we both have trouble this time of year and it will pass.

Today I still have some of whatever bug I had yesterday. My ear is not all better yet so I'll have another day of reading I think.

This, too, shall pass.

hugs, katie

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thought this might cheer you up. Gunny, the AmaZon Parrot is teasing Barney the Jack Russell on the kitchen floor.....they get pretty rough at times, but as you can see Barney is patiently waiting to see if Gunny takes a bite or just a taste. When I am down and out my animals always seem to bring me around.

Katie, I am sorry you are not feeling well. If I lived in Mexico I would no doubt be sick too. I
have yet to go there that I have not returned not feeling well. Tourista , is that what they call it. Last time I brushed my teeth with tequila and still got the runs. LOL

Dave, I do hope you get back to your normal state soon. Not that I think you are normal, but you do have a way of recovering and getting things done that amazes me. Luv you.

I have been trying all morning to get these pics to you. It isn't the camera, Jeanette, so much as the location of the pics. Most of the time I can't find them. So will try again cross your fingers xxxxx
I am in the preview and looks as though it has come through, sometimes I feel so d^^&(_ stupid. Anyone got any ideas of the best program for pictures??????

Anyone want an update on Storm?? We have been getting snow again, big fluffy flakes. I am so tired of this white stuff.

Love your pictures, Montana Molly! As for a program for pictures I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. I have used that for years because of taking pictures of the birds to sell, etc. Also, my camera is an Olumpus and it has its own program, which I seldom use.
I think we have more snow than you have. Took pictures but since my phone was disconnected and reconnected last week I can not send pictures. S@#$%^&*

Well, I can't keep this thing connected this morning. Would love to see the pictures, guess I will go fix something for breakfast. ttyl,

There is about 10 " on the ground, and probably 3 or so underneath that has melted and then froze. This picture was taken in the back yard where DH has cut trails for the dogs, so it doesn't look like much. Not too cold today, about 20 which is better than -20. Can't wait for the snow to be gone. We have had it on the ground since early Nov. Never got warm enough to go away, just kept melting to ice, then covering again, and repeating the sequence. Stay warm everyone.

Must get ready to go to dinner. Have a good evening and stay warm. JB

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Really enjoy the pictures you guys. Fun to see how the rest of you are managing the winter. The rugs are gorgeous Lee.

Lee, I love the pump behind Stormy. And my gosh, that wheel is huge!! Is it off a combine or something? Even then it looks too big for that. Stormy of course is a doll and I'll bet he really keeps you and Mark on your toes.

JB, Bob asked if your greenhouse is glass or plexiglass??? Isn't it a Rion I think you said? Did I get it right? Not sure. What size is it?

Where are you going to dinner?

Sure hope Sharon and family are recuperating ok. That is tough losing someone close. As we all know.

Dawn, how are you doing? And Katie, are you working with the tires yet? How many did you get? Hope you are feeling better. Put some warm oil in the ear and use the heating pad.

Linda are you ok? Gosh, seems like we are all going to have to move into the same retirement home to finally get to meet each other!! LOL Then we probably wouldn't be able to stand each other. Think we better stay the way we are. LOL

ttyl,

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

My friends here use Photobucket. It seems good. I just don't like the idea of someone else having some access to my life, not that it is so exciting or anything.

The weather here has been warm and warmer. I started some WS yesterday and about to head over to do some more now. Yeah! A break in the weather. I don't know for how long but I will take it. I see buds on my Wisteria. Not good at this early. These dumb heat waves screw up our plants and trees, because it always freezes many more times. Sometimes it will happen a couple of times. It is nuts.

I found a cool solution to a verticle garden Idea I have planned for this year with my chain link and trailing varieties of petunias. It was in a magazine Evelyn sent me. It was with a 4 in wide Pvc, capped off with sets of 1 in drain holes. Antother 1 in wide capped off piece with drainage hole in it. Fill dirt between the two pipes and water through the center one. Drill holes at the top to hang a wire or hanger of some sort on it and plant small seedling in the holes. I am so excited to try it. I could have this gorgeous petunia wall in the summer through Fall. I may plug a dianthus in here and there too. You know my dianthus is still blooming profusely, it never stopped. My Pansies too. They did not bloom in the heat but in the fall and up to now are blooming in their outside pots. It is odd.

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Jeanette ~ Are you buried in snow likw Lee and JB? We are having a heatwave in January! It is 60°! I can't believe it! We'll probably have snow when it is supposed to be spring like last year, but every year is different. We haven't had any since late December.

JB ~ I sure hope it warms up for you. LOL re: our "Old Gardeners Retirement Home". "Old gardeners never die, they just go to seed!"

Lee ~ At least Stormy loves the snow! You must still be excited to have him home now. Is he trained yet? Dogs need lots of training...and cats do as well. (Our cat has us pretty well trained, LOL!)

Dave ~ Feel better!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

howdy everyone:
yes that is a rion I have one as well. its on its last legs as i got mine used and was missing some of the pins to hold everything together it has shifted and twisted. they are tough as nails and use a thin poly sheeting material with thin walled spaces in the middle of the sheets. the sales pamplett shows a bunch of people standing on to of one to show how strong they can be.
lee i love the rug very nice looking.

I use a free ware program called Lview pro. I call it free ware as it sticks adds in sometimes when I am looking at pics. I can send it to who ever would like it. I refuse to go upgrade as it does what i want it to do. resize by size and also by pixel count. crop a must have in any pics as well as a slide show so you can see your pics one right after the other.

Evelyn I recieved my magazines... thank you so much for sending such a wonderfull suprise.

I got out to check water on my poted plants and it seems the hydrangea have huge buds on them. the phlox I planted early last fall is still looking good I should have a couple hundred of them come spring. yesterday we got up into the lower 60/upper 50's. its kind of strange to have the temp so high and still have pots frozen solid so i could not inspect the hostas.
I do know if I get them to come back this spring I should have a couple hundred (I think). mostly hosta of the year varieties, frosted mouse ears, wylde green cream, fried green tomatoes, olive baily langdon, Pineapple upside down cake, whirl wind, tiny weeny bikinii, cracker crumbs just to name a few. I will most likely do the hosta of the year collection of 6 different ones for $25.00. it worked really well on ebay. I think I will have enough to do 6 or 7 groups along with a few groups of mini's.
I think tomorrow i will put together the greenhouse cap to put over the cuttings I am gettting in this week. Oh yea it was a good thing I got outside because I spotted a potential problem with a lot of my 3.5" pots were dryer than a "popcorn fart". it seems the irrigation lines were still holding frozen water so i had to hand water. I really need to get a bit warmer to I can water the easy way. I am going to set ou a few risers to do the newest batch.

well its time to say nighty night as I am sleepy again so have a great day

can anyone id the subject of the picture?
