The response to this topic. :-)
Fragrance and dye free laundry soap and fabric softener. No itching!!!!
That I managed to keep this plant alive in my house. Dunno what it is, was part of a mixed "annual" basket from a clearance rack. But I LIKE it!

Today, I am thankful for...#2
Today I am thankful for my wife's organizational skills. She manages to keep things from becoming total chaos. Also I am thankful for very rainy days because those keep her in the house where she can exercise those skills putting the house in order. I'm good at the actual cleaning part of housekeeping, but not so good at handling the clutter that seems to accumulate somehow.
I read somewhere women are better at using both sides of their brain so they can more easily see "the big picture". Maybe that is what makes them better organizers. (Jim)
Yes, Jim, that is true. And, we use both sides at the same time. Stereo. Unfortunately my DD did not get that gene. She says so, and I believe her.
Today I am thankful to have the horses back in their corrals, wether the puddles are dried up in there or not. Those naughty marauders (what I say out loud) have been wreaking havoc since before Christmas and have brought me to tears a few times watching them consume and step on my plants. The freezing weather has helped them decimate my garden. Here is a picture of what were my 7 Queen Palms and Fountain Grass. They had to resort to plants they did not like last week as their 'treat' plants are gone. I woke at 5AM to hear them crunching on the Mexican Fan Palm and the smash of a plastic geranium pot hitting concrete before they pooped on the patio. Hey, fresh fertilizer, right? See those nice green shrubs? They are native wild buckwheat (?). They thrive and I water and prune them. Nice and thick. But do the horses like those? Nooooo.

Today I am thankful for my memory. As a child my dad used to buy quince and sliced it and with some prunes cooked some fruit compote. I remembered when we used to put the quince on the shelve to ripen in the bedroom, and it always smelled so good. Finaly, I found some quince in the store and peeld ,cut it in pieces and with prunes made my favorite compote. I also used some honey with it, it is very healthy. I wish I can find more quince by the box, here it cost $1.50 each.
I don't remember ever having anything but quince jelly. I wonder if i could grow quince here?
Today I am thankful the ladies have declared this "Jim Appreciation Day" and I don't have to cook or clean. YES!!! (Jim)
Today I am thankful for my husband. He was so sweet and filled 2 of my raised beds with Good ole Black cow he got from a livestock auction.
Beautiful! (to a previous post .... but that's nice too.)

I second (or is it third) the Jim Appreciation Day!!!

I am thankful for furniture slip covers. (Three dogs, multiple colors, all shedding, two sensitive stomachs...nuff said...LOL)
Thankful that my grandnieces transferred to the high school which is in walking distance of my house. They come here after school and wait for my sister to pick them up. WHICH means that my dogs get to go outside at 3:00p instead of having to wait until 5:30p or 6:00p when I can get home. (And I don't feel like I am a turribleturrible dog mum for making them wait. :-)
Very thankful for over the counter antihistamines.
Sounds like a plan, Debra.
I'm thankful I live in an area where there are lots of Dunkin Donuts.
I am thankful for my computer. To be able to have friends across the states and know i can reach out anytime day or night when i am able and to just read their messages the times i can't reach out.Am thankful for each and everyone of you.
Vickie
Ditto to Vicki's post today. I couldn't survive these long winters w/o my DG friends.
Solar powered yard lights
Spouses who appreciate each other and don't hesitate to demonstrate it.
(Was only married once for just a couple of years-a lonnnnngggg time ago-and never had that.)
Shoes. Comfortable ones. :-D
Thankful for each of you for posting your thoughts which made me either laugh, take stock of all that I have, or just get a warm fuzzy feeling in my tummy. Quilty, loved the whale story. I am such a sucker for animal stories such as this. Very thankful for the two pups I still have to be my entertainment committee and also very thankful for the years I was fortunate enough to have some other dogs who are now gone to doggy heaven.
Here is hoping that the weekend brings everyone many reasons to be thankful.
Ruby
I am also thankful for my efriends. Funny, they actually feel closer than blood and flesh friends I have known for years. My efriends are much more contact-able and there daily. Thank YOU.
Seeds that came in the mail today.
Today I am thankful for curtains. I've never had curtains up here (Just my DD for a neighbor) Sal, Army received a bunch of beautiful curtains and i went wild. For $14 i got enough curtains for LR,Kitchen area and 1 bedroom. They are wine, pink and green roses and leaves on white.(goes with my recliners) BR,s are blue.
Have vowed not to burn any candles untill the LR is completely cleaned and back in shape.
I am also thankful i can do even a little cleaning at a time for myself.
Vickie
Today I am thankful that I retained enough energy--and MADE myself use it! LOL--to finish all the laundry (W/D in detached, unheated garage), cover exterior pipes, container plants, and in-ground annuals in anticipation of the forecast deep cold and possible snow the next several days. Now, tomorrow I can stay in pajamas and make the requested chili for the boss' birthday lunch on Monday.
Anticipated cold brings out the worst hoarding instinct in us around here, I think. :-) Hate it when I unthinkingly respond in kind to that behavior. SOOOOO, I am thankful I was pleasant and smiling to the disproportionately large number of rude and preoccupied people at the grocery store this afternoon.
Very thankful for the 10 pounds I lost over the summer because NOWWWW the 10 pounds I GAINED over the holidays only put me back even, not behind. :-D
Hey Debra, just perused weather.com (have Plano preset, as family is there) and saw you may even get some snow today. Looks like just 3 days of cold though, then going back to 40's to 60's. Funny how that weather seems so extreme to your area, when the NE or midwest would consider that a mild winter day. Those ice storms you guys get though, are treacherous. My dad learned years ago that when it is only a light icing, he uses his golf shoes and the cleats break the ice. But that was when he was younger - at 83 he is more cognizant of the dangers of falling. When we lived in WI, my dad would consider us ready to ride out a storm if we had plenty of popcorn, lol! I started serious couponing a year ago and now have a tidy stockpile (why pay for toothpaste and deodorant when I can get it for free), but my family still doesn't take the time to LOOK for things and declares we have no food, etc. When you think of it, we should all have a certain number of day of back up/emergency supplies on hand in case of weather and other related emergencies.
I'm thankful for my laptop because now I can keep up with my friends in the winter , while I'm gone, and not have to go 15 miles to the library .
quilty, agree with you, especially living in severe storm/tornado country. keep extra flashlights and batteries and shoes in a pack to grab if needed. when i was about 14, we lived across the street from a family whose religion required they keep a year's worth of supplies stockpiled. the mom still went into panic mode whenever it was going to snow or ice. maybe because that kind of weather is a relatively rare thing for us around here. :-) people are funny.
digger, glad to see you are back online. :-)
======================================================
today i am thankful for gas heat and lots of blankets. it's snowing. LOL
thankful for the two of three dogs that absolutely hate getting wet, which includes getting snow on their paws. they are funny to watch when i make them go out and amusement is good for the soul. :-)
thankful for the hardwood floors throughout my house--which make "elimination" cleanup easier the times those two dogs elude my watchful eye when it IS raining or snowing outside. :-D
oh, yes, and i am thankful it is snowing today and not tomorrow. busy day coming at work and i need my staff present and accounted for!!! :-p
I am thankful that TODAY I MADE IT TO CHURCH! And that the awful, geeky intern minister is not permanent! He substitutes being ponderous for having substance.
Okay...now, I have the phrase, 'preponderance of non-substance' in my head.
Today, I am thankful that, while we don't have a local Dunkin' Doughnuts (more likely to find a Krispy Kreme here), we do have Dunkin' Doughnuts brand coffee at the grocery store.
I'm thankful to be surrounded by people who are tolerant and fun to be around.
Lastly, I'm thankful for online dictionaries so I can look up "preponderance." :-) (Jim)
Debra, That hoarding instinct has probably saved lives. LOL
I'm probably one of the worst hoaders in the world.Living up here on the mountain. Not to mention that my grandmother and uncle raised most of their food and storing away for winter was a way of life.
I keep at least a months supply of food and emergency supplys all the time in case of road failures or whatever. Like now. We are snowed in on our road for several days at least. No snow removal down our road.No above freezing temps for several days either. You are lucky you live in town. But i'll curl up with my furbabies, stay warm, and light candles. For me it's just a little adventure. I do have to get some birdfood made up and put out tomorrow tho.I sure would like to figure out how to keep it unthawed awhile too.
Jim,Kay and Nadene are having bad weather too. Sure hope they stay warm and safe.
This is definately a two dog and three cat night. For once everyone is in the house. Even miss Kitty decided it was better to put up with everyone else to staying out in the snow.
everyone stay warm and safe.
Vickie
PS
I'm injoying hot tea.
I am thankful to be among a (small) community of people who count their haves instead of their have-nots, who view life as an adventure!
I am thankful for everyone sharing their days, hopes, thoughts.
When I was working downtown Los Angeles, I had an emergency backpack in my drawer, in the trunk of my car (both including walking shoes) and supplies at home - in case of earthquake. I figured because of that, I would be in the mall when it struck! LOL. One thing, in the cold, if the power goes out you still have means of keeping food from fridge and freezer cold!
Debra - I have heard 'accidents from animals' are really bad for hardwoods. Checked into that when looking at flooring options due to our critters having those 'accidents' good weather or not. They said laminates are stronger against uric acid. We still have our carpet and literally keep cutting more of it out and dumping it.
Um, yeah, but we're always told not to open the fridge or freezer in case of power outages - they'll stay insulated and keep the food cold wa-a-a-ay longer than if you keep opening them. On the other hand, you go to the grocery store first, if you want, and the meat and dairy doesn't go bad in the trunk while you're trying on clothes or picking over half-price plants!
quilty, yes it is bad. my floors are not sealed and the acid eats through the varnish quickly. But...the one housetrained using puppy pads thinks any fabric on the floor is fair game. Don't have down even area rugs. :-)
=========================================================
today i am thankful the roadways were dry and all my employees made it to work safe and sound.
thankful the boss enjoyed his birthday lunch--and that it's finally over. he's been craaaaaannnnnkkkkkyyy with this one. LOL
I am thankful to have had enough cash to give my grandniece money for her 15th birthday tomorrow. Which is what she wanted and didn't think we could afford to give her. So she's happy and my sister is happy, which means I am happy, and grateful.
Would anyone beleive i am thankful for helicopter ambulances. Don't need one but last year a neighbor did and one came and got her out during bad weather.
Am thankful for doctors, nurses, emergency care people. people who say they're not heros but really are.
I didn't have one for today but Vickie has given me one.
Today and every day, I'm thankful for Champions. (And for Spellcheck.)
Today is the birthday of someone I wish I had never met, which reminds me that I am grateful for the positive changes I have been able to make in my life. I have been able to surround myself (for the most part) with positive people who love me and whom I love. (Except for the PCAs.)
Today, I am thankful for clear roads on my trip. I had an appointment with the VA hospital early this morning a few hours north of here. There was snow and ice in the tree branches along side the roads, but ground heat kept the roads safe.
I removed all the carpeting in our house when my DW started developing allergies. It makes cleaning easier, but a warm pair of houseshoes is a must-have item now.
Stay warm, everyone. (Jim)
Today, I am taking Carrie's theme and am thankful for the people I have met that gave me learning experiences. Sometimes funny, often painful, I am a richer person for having encountered each.
Reduced Sugar Ketchup
And forever grateful for the incomparable Mel Brooks.
It dawned on me just now. I'm thankful for social security checks and a decent retirement to take care of those everyday things that I couldn't afford 20 years ago . Not rich , except in wonderful , long distance friends that will laugh , or cry with me if needed. Thankful for this thread to remind me of my blessings . Thankful for D G to keep me in touch .
I could write a book of the things the Lord has given me,I am so blessed I could never finish it .
Thankful that no pipes have burst at home or work (at least not yet)
Thankful for green citrus tea bags
Thankful for email (never thought I'd EVER say THAT. LOL)
thankful that ONLY one pipe burst so far!
