Thank you Resin for the opening comment. Even something good came out of something bad; I now can ask what's a dunnock and a woodcock? New stuffs for moi. Care to share?

Dunnock is a small bird in the family Prunellidae, no species in North America (only in Europe and Asia); feeds on small insects and seeds. A fairly common garden bird here. Size: slightly larger than a House Wren. Some better pics in BirdFiles here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/birdfiles/go/196/
Woodcock is a wader; closely related to American Woodcock (that'll be in your books!) but slightly larger and darker brown, less orange-toned. Feeds on earthworms, etc.
Resin
i wondered about the woodcock.I had a momma and 3 chicks 4yrs ago nesting near our wetlands,It was before dG and i didnt take photos as much, watched them for 2 days.Havent seen them since,I keep looking.Beautiful bird
Resin, thank you for your response. I'm learning and my lifer-list is growing. The latest was the Hooded Mergansers, beautiful waterfowls.
wow that is interesting, did he gobble it down ?
Tamara, yes he did!!! It was dreadful to watch the hapless prey. I didn't see him catching the meal. From a distance I thought he got himself a great big fish until I zoomed in to see what was going on.

Looks like a rat it has there?
Quite normal for herons to eat small / medium-size rodents, and anything else they can catch.
Resin
Resin, that was a chipmond. The keyword is was .
its amazing that they eat everything Whole..EEWW..LOL
Gives me a stomach ach thinking about it .LOL
Love those pkd s
Ok, here's my contribution..
I was in an elevated position and there was this Black Vulture flying around below my position, so I started following the bird with the camera as I was adjusting the lens focus (as you might have experience is pretty hard to focus a bird in flight, at least for me...) so, I'm almost ready to shoot and then I got everything lined up just right for the shot..... including the post in front of the subject : (
Willy
awwww!
Kim, that's a real good shot of your Peking Duck, shouldn't be on this thread, but on the good pic thread. Even the heron shot is good. Glad I'm not a bird though don't care much for a diet of rodents. ;)
Willy, interesting blurry post. :)) so hard to get a shot of a flying bird, I've missed a lot of great shots like that..
Resin what caught your eyes in the other direction??? See how good you missed those shots. Love how we're all in the same boat with our goofed up shots.
My out of focus one of Redpolls.
Oh Nanny, that is truly horrendous! ;)
Where, Mrs_Ed?
