Daily Pics. Vol. 367

Stafford County, VA

OK Time to start a new thread. I have been away from home a lot the past few days so I missed most of the last one. But I just scrolled through it and there really is some great stuff there, including a few good shots Burd put up to help me close it out. Here is the link if you want to go back: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1146320/

Our little flowering Pear tree was loaded with its tiny, crabapple-sized fruit this year. The starlings usually move in and clean it in a day or two. But today it was loaded with robins and cedar waxwings. (Unfortunately they are American robins, Resin). I counted at least 40 in the tree at the same time. Not the best place to shoot pictures since they seldom perch on the end of a branch.

The last one is wonderfully clear. Love the little amount of snow he has kicked up.

Amazing shots, guys. Burd, that camera and new flash are doing great.

Nice ones Dave....can't go wrong with robins & Blue Birds!

My DH got a little bag of goddies from Wild Birds Unlimited from someone at work. It had this mini peanut feeder in it which the Tufted Titmice are really liking. There was also a gift card, which works out very well for me! lol

2dCousinDave - great start to the new thread. Can't say enough about now good yours and Burd's pix were on the previous thread. Oh, and Dave, that last BB pic was SUPER.

Burd, I tried the "fire flash" routine with my 580 and it lite up the shadows nicely. I'll pst some pix later, maybe some of the will be flash ones. I wasn't sure what setting to use, still figuring out the 580. I think I settled on +1, or maybe just 0 in ETTL.

nanny_56 - nice little peanut feeder. WHen I bought my last two suet feeders, I got a springee-looking peanut feeder with it. Only problem is that I eat the peanuts. Now, I have to go and buy some more, since I see how well yours is doing. AND that Brown Creeper sure does blend in good.

Pelletory - great shots. I'm on the lookout for some Juncos to soon show up here.

Wow, super shots in that last thread!! Dave, thanks for explaining what you did with the bb photo and busy background.

You sure started us off with great pictures Dave. Thanks. That extra bb photo is gorgeous! Keep those photos coming, I'm sure I'm not the only one that's enjoying them.

Nanny, that's a great new feeder. Your birds look pretty happy with it.

Pelle, love your junco and goldfinch. Great job!

Hack, super shot of that thrasher!! Love the colors in the cardinal photo too. You sure have a great variety of birds.

I spotted this Bald Eagle in the usual pine tree below our house. Still hoping they'll move closer one of these days, but in the 8 years we've been here, that's only happened once.

The Scrub Jays sure look bright when the grasses and moss is green from the rains.

I've been watching this particular Dark-eyed Junco. It's the only one here that has more of the gray coloring with just a touch of brown on the back.

Thanks for the new thread, and I did go back and look at the great pictures for the previous thread. I have to depend on all you great people for my bird fix. Can't go outside to take pictures. Have to use a cane or walker now. My youngest son is taking me to Spokane, 3 plus hours distant, tomorrow to see a specialist's assistant to make an appt. with the specialist to decide if the problem with my hip is something he can fix.

I have been putting up with the pain and indescion (sp) for more than 3 months, as the doctors try to figure out what the actual problem is. I have had both hip joints replaced twice, the last time in 1994, 1995. So hope fully I may learn tomorrow what can be done.

At any rate I can enjoy all your wonderful photos. I watch the winter birds outside my windows. We received another inch of snow last night to go on top of the7 or 8 inches of frozen snow on the ground.

Happy New Year to all.
Donna

Hi Donna, We will all be thinking of you tomorrow. I'm sure they'll be able to figure out what is wrong. Be sure to keep us posted.

Great shots Hack and Duc!

Duc, I was under the impression that the female Junco's were the ones with brown on their back.
