Yes Louise we are going to get a black male if all goes well.

He's beautiful!
Oh I love her Celeste!! What's her name? I had a Saint as a kid named Patches, sweetest dog with kids I ever knew!
That's a happy dog, the tail is wagging in the background.
(Yum, a rawhide chew toy!)
big doggies... and big toys!!!.. both adorable!!!!
Wish I filmed Wall-e's reaction when we showed him that bone for the first time.
The Saint B pup is adorable! Looks like she/he? has lots more growing to do.
Her name is Abby and yes she has more growing to do, only one year old.
put that bone in Lily size.... she tosses that kind of stuff around when it's new... could be dangerous.... I would have loved to see that video Jen!!!
Great story!
no kidding!!!
Wonderful!
Very heartwarming.....many angels in this world....
Love seeing all the Pups with Presents! Great photos, everyone!
I've just finished pulling together a list of the plants we all have that can be fatally toxic to dogs if ingested. Our little Carli (not Bailey who was hospitalized in September for ingesting something toxic in our yard) went on a walk on our normal route on Tuesday with Hank and he saw nothing unusual and had no idea she had scarfed anything so quickly while walking, but she ended up in the hospital that night for yet another very costly visit that has made us pretty stressed since we don't even see what they grab. They are NEVER outside on their own and we are very frustrated that this happened twice in 3 months with both of them now. The hospital suspects a Queen Palm berry in Carli's case.
We bought a beautiful shrub (Golden Dew Drop) yesterday at a native plant nursery after checking my main list to make sure it isn't listed as toxic. We planted it today and then I went in to check another site to make sure, and guess what???!!! Fatally toxic berries!! That caused me to take all of the lists I have and reduce them to one list containing only those plants that have fatally toxic parts. Here is the list for any of you who might also have puppies or dogs who can't resist eating first and asking questions later! I hope it helps!
Louise
Ugh....the list is not attachable. If anyone wants it, just d-mail me your email address and I'll send it to you that way. Sorry!
Oh, no, Louise....can't believe Carli was so sick.....my dogs don't pick up anything outside...it's in the house that they find trouble....although I think Robs eats apple drops in the fall!
I'm very happy to hear that, Marilynn. We have never had a dog that paid any attention to plants. It must be genetic, because Bailey and Carli's sister down the street has an issue with it as well. Four vets and both hospitals have looked at our girls' diet to see if anything is lacking and we have also had expensive tests done on their cellular makeup as well to see if they are not getting something they need. No one can find any issue and all concur that they have a very good, balanced diet. It was interesting to see that Carli's blood work showed nothing out of whack as well. It is so perplexing to us. Both seemed to be doing so much better, but they both will occasionally pick up a palm berry on our walks because they are all over the sidewalks, etc.. Most are not a problem, but we still try to discourage them from picking any up. We check their mouths after the walk, and no matter how vigilant we are, they often have surreptitiously sneaked one. Groan!
Glad that they checked out OK.....our Irish wolfie picked up everything, & you couldn't open her mouth! But at 120 pounds, toxins didn't bother her too much.....she made trips to the neighbor's grape vines.....no leash law when we had her, & no traffic on our road....but one day we followed her, & saw her plucking grapes.....she also ate my gooseberries & strawberries, but those were probably good for her....It's very hard to spot something before the dog does....they have such excellent sense of smell....
Amazing! I think it does matter that they are so small. Bailey is 11 pounds and Carli is 12.2. It doesn't take much at that size to have a toxic effect.
Louise, that's awful about Carli, but I'm sure glad she's okay. With such small dogs it's easy for them to become poisoned. They don't have to ingest much.
Nice picture of Harry, Pirl.
Ronnie, such a cute shot of the girls with Little Bear. Adorable!
Jen, Wall-E will have a lot of fun with that huge bone! My dog would love one of those.
Awwww! Celeste, what a cute picture of the St. Bernard pup!
Great story about Jerzy, Victor.
Karen
Sorry about your poor poochie, Louise
Thanks, Karen and Jen! For today, everyone is well. LOL The pretty shrub goes back to the nursery tomorrow. :( I'll have to check my list of the 5 non-toxic shrubs in existence to see if one of them can go into the hole, since it has already been dug. Can't waste a good hole, now can I??????? :)
Are amaryllis on the poison list, Louise? You could always plant a clump.....they bloomed for us in March in The Villages.
No, I don't think they are, Marilyn. I have a pot with two in it in the puppy yard. It looks like only one of them is perking up. I do love them, and I had them in the soil last year. I wanted to see how they do in a pot outside this year. I did some research today and it seems that a white butterfly bush may do well in the spot where we'll be digging up the pretty shrub to return it. We need a shrub that gets about 4 - 6 feet high in this spot. Thanks for thinking of the amaryllis!
ok... LOL
Would love a white butterfly bush, Louise!
I have a spectacular one - gets about 7 or 8 feet.
Wow...butterflies must be happy.....
Ahem, how can I say this nicely???? Hank bashed a big snake to death after it coiled and started for him instead of nicely going away in the other direction? My stomach has been churning every since, and Hank felt bad too, but there was just no choice. It was curled up on top of the plant next to the one we were digging up to return - just on the other side of the fence for the puppy yard. He was huge, and Hank took a walking stick and went into the puppy yard to hit the ground to make him go in the other direction. Instead, he went through the lattice fence towards Hank. That's the first one we've seen since it started warming up again, and we were hoping they were all sleeping nicely for the winter. Noooooooooo. Hank put him in our garbage can for pickup yesterday. I was, of course, afraid to open the can, so I was happy to see the trash guys come. My tummy has been sick ever since, even though I know we could not risk him being in there with the puppies.
After the "incident" we dug up the Golden Dew Drop and returned it in exchange for a large pretty English lavender plant and some parsley, thyme and dill plants. The lavender is in full bloom right now and I'll get a shot of it soon. I wanted to get a white Buddleia, but I didn't see any.
Sherrie - any explanation for the name change for Mr. G? Perhaps it's self-explanatory???? LOL
Marilyn - wouldn't you love to see Victor's huge white Buddleia?? I would! I got a nice garden catalog from High Country Gardens with lots of zone 10 plants in it. I thought of Allison, because there are many pretty agastache plants that appear to do well here. Oh Dear....I must make my list and head over to the "What Do you Plan to Order" thread. :)
Yes, Louise, I'd love to see Victor's butterfly bush....if he's not going to be home, you & I can share it.....awful about the snake....he was too large & aggressive to stay.....I know just how you felt about the garbage can....episode with dog vs possum many years ago.....dog won, possum in trash....couldn't go near it! Sherrie, my little pointer has to be touching me also.....
Great idea, Marilyn! We'll dig it at his RU that he isn't planning to attend! LOL
Sad about your possum tussle.....It just kills me to kill any animal, but sometimes there's no good choice. :(
I know.....I was having bad feelings toward the bear in my tree, but then I felt it was my fault for living in his territory!
