That's the way I see it too, Marilyn! Down here you can really see the intrusion every time one of the rare remaining Florida panthers gets hit by a car and killed. They keep that count since they are endangered. I'd say every other week or so it makes the news. The main area where this is happening is near the new Regional Southwest airport. When I was a kid I went hunting in that area with my Dad. It was just miles and miles of wild woodlands. Sad price we pay for "progress", huh?

We are definitly intuders (sad)
Louise what kind of snake was it?
Harper got hold of a groundhog this past summer, really did a number on it or so we thought...as I was going to get the hovel to scoop him up up he got and scamperd up the hill back to his den under the shed. We thought for sure we would be smelling him soon eneogh...never did and we never saw it the rest of the summer!
Talking about eating things - I had to drop one of my cats off at a vet on the way to work this morning because she ate my vitamin pills and my meds! They called poison control but that particular med wasn't on their list. She is getting her stomach pumped and fingers are crossed. I left a DNR - I love her and it was my fault but there are so many animals that need spaying and neutering and help with medical bills that I think the needs of the many outweigh spending huge sums trying to save one. I'm not cheap with them - Sampson's recent UTI cost me $700 and the stray grey cat has run up over $400 in vet bills. If you have a good thought to send her (HollyCat) I would appreciate it.
Wow - sorry to hear.
Talked to the vet before lunch and he expects her to survive. At the moment she is VERY high and not loving it much. Her heart is good and strong and that will be her saving grace. She should come home tonight.
Wow, Memory...speedy recovery to HollyCat
Oh, Memory! I am sending you many hugs and lots of prayers for HollyCat right this minute! Who could ever question your difficult decision or your very unselfish way of loving critters!! I hope she pulls through with no lingering effects. And remember, it was an accident that can happy to anyone. Please keep us posted on how she is doing.

Ronnie - It was a very long, dull black snake, so it could have been several different ones. Generally, black snakes do all they can to get out of your way and they do not act as this one did in coiling and aggressively moving to strike. What a story about the groundhog!!!
Well wishes to HollyCat!!
Scary Louise, even a non venomous snake bite can cause problems.
I hope HollyCat is home soon, Memory....
Louise, make sure you cut back your butterfly bush every year if you get one. They can get enormous! I have one that gets Over six feet high and wide every year, and I cut it back each spring, too, within 12" from the soil.
Louise, that's really sad about the Florida panthers. The only solution that I can see is to have elevated roadways, but it's sure not cost effective, and you can't elevate them all. Maybe just the ones where most of the panther deaths occur? No good solution, anyhow. Sorry you had to kill that snake. Sounds like a scary incident.
Memory, here's hoping Hollycat recovers well.
Karen
oohhh Memory.. the poor baby... hope everything is ok
Good thoughts speeding your way for HollyCat, Memory.
I filed an application to adopt a homeless kitty. Hoping he's here soon.
I'm sure he will be Weeze, over abudance of kitties. What kind?
OH Yank, im so sorry! You know i'll be saying prayers for a full recovery for HollyCat....poor baby has had a rough life!
Jen, it is heartbreaking just looking. Cats 100 mile radius=14801 for adoption. Dogs 100 mile radius =9098 for adoption. Very sad. The guy I applied for is an orange 4 month old. I heard from the foster parent and she said he is fearless. I replied that is a great thing considering my 2 big doggies that love to love, be it human or feline.
Oh man, that's what my daughter wanted, we may have to come for a visit.
You're welcome anytime Jen!! ....and anyone else in the NE
Here's his pic

Buzz is adorable!
He is a cutie alright!
Cute!!!
Just heard from foster mom....I'll be meeting him and hopefully bringing him home Saturday. Yay!
yeah for you and Buzz!!!
Congratulations to Buzz for finding the perfect family! That's one lucky kitty!
Congrats, Weeze! Reminds me of my Sniff.
Oh how cute is Buzz? Im so happy for him ....he has no idea how lucky he is!!
Thanks guys! Today is going to be a very l-o-n-g Friday.
hope it goes quick for you
HollyCat is home and doing well. She managed to try and eat everyone's breakfast - as ususal. Thank you for the good thoughts.
So happy to hear that, Memory! Buzz is a doll! He'll let the dogs know who's boss in short order....
Oooh...love the face....also love the colors of the 2 cats....not orange, sort of Creamsicle.
aaaaaawwwwwwwww
Yes - he's closer to beige.
Awww, Weeze - I'm lovin' Buzz! And Victor's Spooky has to be related! Both adorable and I love their coloring.
Memory - I'm so happy to hear that HollyCat is pretty much back to normal. That's just great!!
Karen - I do cut all of my Buddleia's at the farm back every year. I have several colors, but no white one yet! As to the panthers - there are 3 elevated panther crossings along that road, but they are not enough! When you went to the airport here, you would have driven under the crossings.
Glad to hear the good news on HollyCat. I always root for the underdog...or in this case the undercat.
Wow Victor, the resemblance is kind of spooky :)
Yay for HollyCat. So glad to hear she is home and being a little piggie!
Nice color match too!
Awwww.....Yes, he looks comfy indeed!
