~M~ - she's been falling for years - fell 10 yrs ago and it was her hip breaking that caused her fall.
She's been on blood thinners ever since and drinks. Not that she's an alcoholic, but alcohol is a blood thinner too, which is why her arm (where she gashed it) was still bleeding the next day. Not much, but enough to say it still bled.......
What's happening in your neck of the woods friends? Dec/10
The elderly have SUCH thin and fragile skin .. I can remember repositioning a gerian in bed one night, my Aide reached over to flip the blanket up, she brushed the patients forearm with her wrist (had her watch on) and OMG .. what a skin tear .. completely unexpected .. we use some 'magic dressings' in the hospital .. but .. it took a bit for it to heal.
Wishing your Mom quick healing ..
Kinda disappointed here .. won't see my dentist til 3:15pm .. guess I had mistakenly thought they'd clear an appt for me this morning .. gives me time to putz around here. I am going to put my Xmas 'stuff' away in a tote or a bin (plastic) this year .. part of my ONGOING organizing plan .. I have a DREAM, that one day I WILL be organized ... it's a work in progress fer sure ..
Cold and sunny today ..
Guess I'll hop into town early and perhaps buy a couple of totes on sale at Crappy Tire .. I purchased a SMALL coffeemaker there on Sunday, as Sunday morning ours bit the dust. So .. toodled on in .. bought a 5 cupper .. got it home .. NO FILTERS .. dang me .. good thing I had bought a large Timmies for the trip home LoL
Hope all is well in your various corners of the country
~M~
Thanks Marilyn - they used Wound Filler for my mom's arm - will be her new "skin" they said.
She's had tears like this before - on her leg last time - and it took about 3 months to heal. She bruises so easily too - the entire female part of the family does, anyway..........
OMG Susan sorry to hear about your mom..know they are getting older but drats hard to accept all that happens to them..sending prayers and hugs for you...
"M" by now you should have seen the dentist..hope they got you all fixed up and pain free...
Carol, how are you feeling?? gaining strength..not overdoing I hope...
Snowing here, no storm but snowing none the less..stayed home today, could smell gas a bit last night and more so this morning so had Embridge come out..seems a pipe got kinked, gave me an order form that it has to be repaired immediately, said he really should have shut off the gas but because I said my son was in the business he gave me a few days grace..called Greg, he'll be over tomorrow to fix..
Other than that I've got 12 totes packed with Christmas decorations, still more to be filled but that can be tomorrow, too tired today..already had my bath, never got the opportunity to read on my new reader so just might get it out and see how much I can read before falling asleep..had tomato maccoroni and cheese made up in freezer, baked it, ate it soooo no reason not to just find the couch and enjoy a quiet evening.....
Never fails, watch something or someone come over and put the kibosh to my plans..lol..
Waving to all of you...
Thanks, Betty
I've been wondering about Carol - she hasn't been posting since she got home and posted a bit....
Hope she's resting!
Happy New Year everyone.
Carol, what a great lap robe you had there. I hope you are progressing and feeling better each day.
Betty, you wrote "Interesting trip" and "tell you about it tomorrow" - and now, nothing! What did you do? Elope?
And Marilynne, what happened at the dentist? What your mom used to call a cold in your teeth was likely neuralgia, which is a real B***h! I hope you haven't got that. A tooth is so much simpler. Just hope you are again sleeping on your side and enjoying life.
That amaryllis is so beautiful.
My T&T catalogue arrived yesterday, and I'm putting off looking at it as I know I won't get anything done for days once I start. Too much to do. One bathroom sink started having water underneath day before Christmas, and then the other on Christmas day. Got the plumber in and he fixed one, but the other needed a part. Yesterday noticed that the kitchen sink also is wet underneath, same spindle problem I think, so went and got a new faucet set. Plumbers were supposed to be back today and was going to get them to install as one new hole will have to be drilled, but they didn't come and when I phoned they said he was off with "flu" - I think the kind you get from over-exuberant New Year's Eve parties. Must have been a doozy if he's still sick.
Some of my Boxing Day Christmas dinner crowd attached
Forgot - Marilynne and all else who love watching dogs revel in the snow, this is classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sUL0KCIc48

Not sure whether I've posted to wish you all a Happy New Year. Had a large open house yesterday which was all consuming. We had 59 people show up and collected a large pile of food for the Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard.
Like the rest of you, I'm awaiting Marilynne's news from the dentist visit. And I'm sorry to hear about Susan's mother.
OW, OW, OW !!!!!!!
Did my appt. after viewing Xrays taken and finding my tooth was fractured, I was given 2 choices, extraction OR pulpectomy
http://www.dentalfind.com/info/pulpectomy
I chose pulpectomy, which he did after freezing me to the hilt !! The actual procedure was quite quick .. and I am being referred to an endontist to start the root canal procedures. After that is done, I will have to have a crown .. oooooooo ROYALTY !!! LoL
I'm laughing now .. but .. when the freezing came out around 6pm I was in tears and cars were at the ready to take me to Emerg .. the pain was UNREAL .. and .. even though I am NOT to take anti inflammatories .. I did .. will forgo the nightly one ordered for me ..
Right now I would say I am 55% more comfortable and will likely get SOME sleep tonight (HALLELULJAH)
Busy homes Crone and Ann .. but .. so much fun too.
Hope you did have a quiet evening Betty ..
I think I best lay me down
Thanks for all the positive thoughts
~M~
PS .. the video of the doggie was WONDERFUL .. our Piper LOVES the snow, but, his legs aren't quite as long as that fellers LoL
~M~
HI ladies
I have just been lurking most of the time- not able to sit upright comfortably at the computer for very long.
Slow progress, day by day, gettting out every day, shopping a couple of times. Went to a local greenhouse and bought seeds today! Weight loss seems to have levelled out ( shed about 18 lbs) and bought new pants last week so I dont look quite so baggy.
I still dont walk on my own but will start next week, maybe just with one dog at a time. Not driving yet either but probably could start soon- they just said could drive if off drugs and not in pain. Not got much appatite either so just eating whatever I feel like eating, small amounts multiple times a day!
All in all doing OK and getting sort of bored watching TV! ASR has a fund raiser in a couple of weeks- I was making dog beds in Nov for sale and had a lot unfinished so somebody came yesterday and took some and I will try to get the rest done- Certainly I should be able to sit at the sewing machine for a few minutes at a time.
MOstly I just have an uncomfortable tummy!
Carol
aha - being bored is surely the first indication you're feeling better!!!!
If you're not walking by yourself, does that mean you have a "walking buddy"?
I'm sure you won't pick an "energetic" dog to take for your first walks.......
Are you putting a heating pad on your tummy?
Questions, questions....... all these questions lol Now, for the answers, please Carol?!
Great to hear from you Carol .. rule of thumb for driving is 'usually' 6 weeks post op .. with abdominal sugery it's the act of BRAKING that'll bother an abdominal incision. You'll get there though ^_^
-30C here this morning .. brrrrrrrrrrr .. only Piper has been up and out, Lilly is still tucked up warm in bed (smart doggie)
Not going to say much of anything about 'THE TOOTH' .. suffice to say I am NOT in agony right now .. and .. for that I am thankful.
Take care all
~M~
Morning, omg almost lunch and finally caught up with my office work, funny how one doesn't have to be at work to get work..you just have to thanks Bell Canada for voice mail and e-mails..
Feels good to get into a routine!
Was snowing earlier this morning but has stopped..-1 at the moment, cold but some of you have much colder, like Vancouver, were saying that they may get a few inches of snow and it's rare.
"M" doubt there is anything like a toothache, glad you are on the mend..Carol, that's when you get into trouble when you feel good enough to be bored then you start pushing the line and do far more than you should..give it awhile...I'm with the others, sure hope you have a walking buddy other than the doggies!
Susan, hope your mom is feeling better, have you got the travel plans tied down for the meeting you are attending?
Cybercrone, nope, no eloping, no chance of that, starting to like coming and going without giving a second thought, not everything about being alone is bad.lol
Not good about all the work you need done to water pipes..did they freeze or just old age and need repair work..you are lucky indeed to have a plumber come over the holidays...love the link ..
Mom was driving me bonkers wanting all her treasures brought home from Florida, kept telling her to just walk away from everything and start a new page...nope, didn't want to do that, so in 1 week I drove down (solo driver) bought a cargo hitch for my aveo, filled the aveo to the brim and 3 large totes on the cargo platform and drove home..got home to hear her ask my step-father to find out when big object pick up was, all junk...lordy lordy, told her that from the beginning but couldn't talk sense to her..she also said when I got to her house that she had decided to walk away and leave all but when I finally said I'd go she didn't want to disappoint me...imagine that...Oh well, did my part, got browny points..lol..
Ann, how wonderful that you and friends were able to get so much food for the food bank, they sure do need it..
You know in Clearwater there is Olsmar Flea Market, must have several hundred vendors, usually open Friday, Sat. & Sun. Thought I'd take Cathy and show her all that they sell, got there, omg only a handful of vendors, 1/2 the stall nothing in them, the other 1/2 closed...spoke with a vendor and he said the economy is really playing havoc with sales so few open now other than a Sat. or a Sun. if that..ended up walking out with nothing in hand..boohoo, wanted to purchase a few outfits but no go
So what are you all doing to get back into a routine
This message was edited Jan 4, 2011 11:35 AM
Relax- I am not walking alone yet! In any case even though I know I should go out and walk more I also keep telling my self I dont want to go out in the cold! Not that bad really but having somebody to make me go for a walk helps a lot! In any case my 13 year old dogs are not really into energetic walks any more! They just toddle along at whatever pace we are going! Wish we could go walk at the indoor shopping malls!
Carol, is it prohibited to walk the dogs in the mall? think at one time the malls in my area opened a few hours earlier just to allow walking. You are much the same as I, Sailor much prefers just sitting beside me, goes out to do her think and that's about it!
My flight's at 5pm, have to be at airport at 4pm, and taxi picking me up at 3:30 (1/2 hr).
I come back at 2pm, and arrive at 3pm tomorrow afternoon.
Chat atcha lovely ladies later!!
(Carol - will be thinking of you while I'm away and can't get online......)
Ciao!!!
Hope the meeting goes well Susan, look at you, searching for a job, finding a perfect match and now flying to meetings..you just got to love it....
Drats, could hardly find my way home tonight for snow...you know the kind that comes right at you and makes you feel as though you are driving in slow motion???
Ahhh had my bath, cup of hot chocolate and cereal and now off to read on my e-book, kind of liking it, glad the boys thought of it (after about 12 hints) lol
Ann should arrive for t.v. bingo soon, hope they call our numbers..Mike had chemo today so if he's not well she'll not come, I'm ok with that, means I can fall asleep on the couch by at least 8pm.
Enjoy your evening all
Busy thread today :-)
Betty, glad your liking the 'reader' .. but, feel bad you hauled all that stuff home for yer Mom and she has decided to deep6 it. Ahh well .. as you said .. Brownie points ..
Susan .. where was your meeting? Hope it was a good one ..
Carol .. Lorna has mentioned she would like to Mall Walk .. we have a BIGGY here and it would do her (us) the world of good to get up and get out .. no dogs allowed of course, I think the Mall opens at 7am for the walking club, but, I think we'd probably like to try 9am or so ..
DE Christmased the house .. the tote I bought at Can Tire worked beautifully.
Still COLD here .. really didn't warm up much all day ..
Off to take my antibiotic ... as I said before .. not saying much re 'the tooth'
TTFN
~M~
Marilynne - what is the difference between a pulpectomy and a root canal? I hope you will be more comfortable until you have the latter procedure.
Carol - glad to hear that you are making steady progress. I also hope you are able to keep the weight off.
Where did Susan go? She talked of a flight and I looked back but couldn't find a reference as to where.
We also took our Christmas decs down last night. I like to leave them up until Jan. 6, but tonight we have a concert to attend, tomorrow is handbells, Friday we have our DGD and Saturday morning DH heads to Singapore. So, it was last night or wait another 10 days or so.
Need to go have breakfast and then do some grocery shopping. Haven't got much in the house except party leftovers and that leaves significant gaps in what we can eat. Have a great day.
Oh Ann, do you need someone to take care of your luggage and needs while you are in Singapore??? Bag still packed, wouldn't take me long to reach Ottawa, well maybe it would, storming pretty good here..again you've such an exciting life, envy you!
Think Susan was going to Edmonton for work meeting!
back from Edmonton (my meeting).
It was good, hotel room was too. Too bad I got some kind of "tummy bug" though......
just got home, now I'm going to go lie down................ blech!
Sorry to hear your not well Susan, maybe you've that nasty virus that is going around...
Well, watched the hockey game last night with Kyle, go Canadians, 3-0 by 2nd period...drats, should not have fallen asleep, woke up to the Russians winning...
Not snowing this morning but extremely cold..one of those, go start your car 15 minutes early kind of cold..
Keep thinking once we get this month done with we can say, couple more and spring will arrive..wishful thinking
Betty - all I know is, I started having heartburn (I thought) on Tuesday am and went pale, then I was ok...... started throwing up and had such a sour tummy that it made me "wiped" and I got pale & dizzy. I rallied during the meeting, cuz I HAD to, but as soon as it was over, I left for my hotel and then the airport.
I got home before Bob & went to bed. When I woke up, he'd been home for awhile, and he's terribly sick with a cold.
I'm at home, so I may as well print out the church newsletter that's supposed to be delivered on Saturday. I may not be up to doing any delivering myself........
It's +7 here...... very nice out.
Yes, I have to print the newsletter - it's completed, just takes printing of 800. I have 600 single sided, working on 400 of the double sided and will see what my ink level is like to see if I can do the last 200 double sided before needing more ink......... I thought 2 cartridges would be enough, but apparently not.
I'm also on my work email, granting building accesses, and setting up First Aid trainings (AED, etc) for our building - no one thought to do this. I guess it's part of my job, eh?!
eh...is so and you love it..that's a lot of ink but then it's a lot of printing as well..
Looking forward to the weekend, always hard to get back into a routine after the holidays and being tired from my trip hasn't helped
yeah - need to have 800 double sided legal pages (makes 4 visual pages).
s'funny - printing stopped cuz it says the ink has run out, but I can print more, and they don't look any different (not gray instead of black print.......)
It is difficult to get back into the "work/weekend mode" f'sure! Hope you're not driving tired.....!!
Sorry guys, DH is going to Singapore. I'm staying home.
Here I still had my suitcase packed ready to find out what time I had to be in Ottawa Ann..drats..perhaps next time!
Were you supposed to meet someone, Ann??
What did I miss?
oooops - cross posted, Betty lol
was me, offering my services as Maid in hopes to see Signapore, now, get to see the countryside on my way home..lol
oh - well, think I'm going to take people's advice and "go back to bed"
cya later........
OTOH, don't let my being home keep you from coming to Ottawa!
Morning all ..
So hope you feel better quickly Susan .. nothing worse than nausea and feeling like if you do NOT lay down/sit down NOW, you're going to pass out !!
Lovely pic Betty .. Xmas cardy kinda ^_^
Gently snowing here .. temps have decided to get milder .. a definite PLUS !!!
Ann .. the pulpectomy (I am surmising) was the 'pseudo death' of my tooth. it didn't take long .. and I was frozen to the HILT .. which is why when the freezing came out I thought I was going to go mad with the pain .. and .. even though I am NOT to take anti inflammatories .. I did .. and .. they calmed the pain a bit.
I have an appt with an 'endodontist' (root canal guy) in MARCH, unless my tooth starts to act up, and .. well .. it IS still touchy .. I can call him and get in earlier.
Wathched George Clooney in 'The American' last evening. Not a bad movie .. far too much nudity . A 'thriller' typa movie. Filmed in Italy, wonderful scenery ..
Kinda gonna 'cool my jets' today .. enough of cooking, baking and cleaning .. yeah right !!! LoL
TGIF ... enjoy your weekend
~M~
It is Friday,oh happy days, thought it would never come even considering I took Monday off for 'gas' problems..
Greg dropped in last night and did what Embridge Gas wanted him to do, he has his pipe fitting permit so didn't have his number with him, going to fill it today and drop it off tonight so I can sign and mail, thank goodness the man had a heart and didn't shut the gas off..I'd be a popsicle by now.
If not stormy tomorrow morning a few friends will come over bright and early and we'll play at 'jewelery making' and I can teach Darlene how to use the kiln so she can take it home and fire. Only so much jewelery one needs!
~M~ - thanks, I'm feeling somewhat better, and gone to work - home for lunch (only 10 min drive away) to be with my poor DH who's sick.
Betty - send ME your kiln - I'd love it and take goooooood care of it!!
Glad you are feeling better Susan, talk about spoilt, now you can come home for lunch, look at the $$$ you'll be saving rather than fast food restaurants.
Was nice all the way home except for last 2 miles, blizzard going on, 2 entrances to my town closed down, must have been an accident..am sure I'll hear about it on tonights news. Going for bath, nightie and hot chocolate and a do nothing evening..getting lazy in my old age!
Oh Marilyn - how can there be too much nudity when George Clooney is involved??
