Best/Worse/What did I learn today-Visit & Chat with friends

Victoria Harbour, ON

Girls just left, wow, had loads of fun, everyone made 3 pendants, kiln has the last piece cooking so they'll drop in one day during this week to pick them up so best I not go far, almost at the sagging point!

Lots of goodies for eats, enough to do me tonight and tomorrow..infact lost of sausage rolls, I'll freeze as they were freshly made by Pat and I can serve them on Christmas eve...

On the tired side so think it will be an early night, if not to bed sleeping it will be on chesterfield..

Dannie called and said she'd be here in another few hours, hope she's not into chatting after such a long drive....start my new adventure, another border, am hoping that she will rethink her leaving and go back home and try to make things work.

Ohhh girls gave me card for Canadian Tire, card for Walmart and several other gifts which are under the tree to open with my other gifts but June got Darlene and I each a 'goat' quite something, my goat will arrive in a community across the ocean in hopes someone will start a business and earn enough to feed their family, quite exciting really! hope mine is the mommy goat and has mega babies...

Be back after with some photo's

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

That is sooooooo coool Betty. Talk about unique and a gift that no one else will be giving you. I think it's wonderful. And thoughtful. I'll say a prayer that your goat is a Mommy soon!!!!!

Lexington Park, MD

Betty it sounds like fun was had by all. And you got a goat that is so cool. Been up since 4 think I am going to call it a night.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, I finall got caught up on this thread!

We finally got our tree up, and it is all ready for the pressies to be placed under it! Both of my boys and families will be here for Christmas, so we will have a house full!
We place our tree on the back porch, as our home is so small, no place for a tree inside! it is even prettier at night all lit up, but iI can't figure out how to get a decent picture of it!

Very nice LK.Love the idea of having the tree outside.No pine needles for me to clean up or cats eating tinsel or in Debbie's case Axl conquering the tree like it is Mt Everest.
Made another batch of the light fruit cake today - just as good as the first batch my DH claims.Cookies tomorrow then I am done baking untill after Christmas.DH made Hamburger Tarts yesterday - they are very good and freeze well.
Betty I hope you are enjoying your time at home - bet you don't miss that drive to/from work everday.I was thinking about what you said about Dannie and her boys on Christmas Eve and I know how big your heart is.... and how awful you would feel with them just sitting there. One year in my Behavioural class I had a young lad whose family did not celebrate Halloween or Christmas, I was beside myself trying to figure out what to do so he wouldn't feel left out.So I had a meeting with the student and his mother to try and come up with an alternative plan _ David could participate in all of the activities especially the cooking part I did every day and he could take his treats home but anything to do with the specific holiday he could do or help me with the younger ones but he had to leave that at school.I gave him a 'gift' to thank him for his help and he would be able to keep it. At Halloween he took his pumpkin home to make a pie even if it did have a carved face. Maybe you could give Dannie and family a gift as welcome to my house and family if they are there Christmas Eve - no Christmas wrap on the present just tissue or a gift bag.Just my thoughts about the matter.
Whooo hooo on the sewing machine Stacey. You will really enjoy and make good use of that!
Every thing OK with you Crissy?
Going to try and go to bed now - be good to yourselves today everybody.

Morning all, woke up at 3:30, was bound I wasn't getting up so managed tofall back asleep and now I'm rushing.

Was a hard night last night for Dannie, she brough in box after box of her things, not sure where we can put them but will find a place I'm sure..perhaps in back storage shed if nothing will be destroyed by cold..she spent most of her time in the bedroom crying..she did say for New Years she'll go back to Montreal to spend what she feels will be her last visit with her father, he's getting weaker and he said he'd fight to be here for Christmas so another long trip she'll take.

This morning, Ann and Mike are on their way to Toronto for final word as to 'continue treatment or call it a day'

My heart goes out to both friends today

Dianne, what a beautiful idead on how you handled the situation, think that is exactly what I shall do. You have some of the best ideas ever..

Linda Kay, I absolutely love your tree, bet all who pass admire it. Full house, isn't that wonderful, I'm excited for Thursday night as well when mine arrive.

Well, be back in a bit,Walmart only opens at 7pm for their tire dept. and as I've decided to get 4 new tires thought it could be done this morning before a rush and I can shop while they do it and still be home by 9 for the office telephone

Can't stay and gab but will be back shortly, got to tell you, think today is the coldest morning yet either that or I'm still coming down with something..

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Scotty is starting to fall again. 3;00 am he fell against the metal rail and ripped his arm open from elbow to wrist. The EMTs wanted him to go to hospital but he is so stubborn. One more time and he will be in the nursing home for good. I just can't even pull him to sit up. He just had to bleed till they got here. Sorry but had to vent. Prayers please. Thanks LOVE BEV

Verona, ON

Oh Bev vent away that is OK with all of us here. We are all good listeners and vent away ourselves when needed. Don't you just feel like a bubble read to burst when you are feeling frustrated and anxious? I sure do.
Betty it is a good thing we don't live close as the community would be calling us the 2 crazy ladies who never sleep.
Keeping Ann and Mike in my heart, hoping they will have an easy drive into Toronto.
Doesn't sound like Dannie has much positive going on in her life right now, no wonder she is so sad.It also sounds like she meant it this time when she left if the boxes are any indication. She has some pretty hard decisions to face which are hard to make at the best of times. I truly feel for her and am so glad you took her in Betty.
Going to make Buckeyes and get more coffee.
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bev, omg it must be overwhelming for you to see him injured and not be able to lift him, drats and more drats, he'll have to go to a home for sure, can't have you worrying/straining like you have to in your condition..where will he be if you are ill and can't look after him?? better that you are able to visit him rather than no Bev!!! just too horrible for words.

Dianne thank you, always tell Ann that you all are pulling for them..my thoughts are that they sure will need prayers today although Mike keeps saying he's fine, tests come back the opposite.

Yes, Dannie will have a difficult road through this Christmas season. Did hear her say though last night that IF he agreen to get counselling she might go back..Darlene said both need it but how can you tell her that.

Dissappointed, got to Walmart lube/tire dept before 7, sat in my vehicle till 7:10 because the door was locked, left my car and walked around the building, go to the desk, attendant was just arriving, told him what I wanted, not a vehicle in the bay, said not till late morning because a staff memeber is running late..not normally am I impatient but lordy, here I was, going to get 4 tires, do my Christmas groceries and some Christmas shopping..about a $700-$800 morning , told customer service, not that they care..went and did 3/4 of my grocery order in town here $250 and still another $100 or so to go, will call Tire Guys Shop and make an appt. for early tomorrow morning and will do what's left of Christmas somewhere else..won't that show them..lol in the meatime, wanted to purchase a router for computer so Dannie could use my internet, walked out and didn't remember I wanted one so once my day ends I'll go back and pick one up, go deliver the rest of the floral arrangements and get that behind me.

Have one of those pocket bags 1/2 done for Suzanne to give to her daughter so think I'll get my sewing machine out to finish that project.

Groceries to put away, gab on my next break

Dianne what do you call buckeyes??? pancakes?? off for breakfast as well, was going to stop at Tim Hortons but didn't.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh my - so much going on here.
Bev - dear heart - does Scotty need stitches or anything? He is truly an independent cuss that is for sure.
My prayers do continue for both of you. I just wish I had some kind of a solution for you.....
Dianne, what great ideas for Betty regarding Dannie's boys. As long as it isn't in Christmas wrap, it can be a gift for just about anything. I, too, keep her in my prayers. Just having a "landing place" right now must mean so much to her....
LK your tree is so pretty. I never think to make mine any special color scheme. It is more a memory tree than anything else. We have ribbons on it with family members names and they stay there even though some have passed. And then we have all the special ornamants from over the years. All this on a four foot tree!!!!!
Betty, I'm so glad you don't HAVE to go out unless you choose to now. Not making that commute any more is truly a blessing.
My heart is ful with thoughts of Ann & Mike today. My prayers will continue.....
Must finish up the laundry I started yesterday.
~~~Waving to all and hoping today is a good one for you.
Thanks Barb I'll tell Ann and will update you. Told Ann I would not call today that when she felt up to talking to give me a call. Am sure if it's good news she'll be beaming and a call will definately come this evening.
Trees are so personal aren't they, you look at the ornaments and most have a special meaning..I've got some for the family to put on the tree Christmas eve in Roger's name..have some pretties.
Dannie just went shopping with Darlene. As she knows more about routers asked her to shop for one for me. Her outing will fill in a part of the day and I'll ask if she'd like to come with me tonight and deliver flowers.
Back to sewing..lol
Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)
Scotty always refuses to go. I have to change the bandage this afternoon and see how bad it is. The EMTs said it was scraped and gouged bad. He could be having small strokes like I did be cause 11 yrs ago when he had his bad one they told him he has blockages too but he would not let them look. Got to go. I will be back. HUGS BEV
Jaye that is so funny! Thanks for the smiles!
Victoria Harbour, ON
LOL, Jaye, look alot like those Collingwood Elvis' that I saw this summer..too funny and Merry Christmas to you as well..
Thunder, you be careful driving, so hope that you have a lovely time with family..tell those sons of yours they are in my prayers.
Bev, stubbord old critter isn't he!!! You must think of 'you' first or there will be no one to look after him.
Busy sewing, making mistakes, rushing too much..
Dannie is back from town, omg I'm sewing and you should see the lunch she brought down to me, tonight prime rib..hmmm what a treat
LindaKay, you got everything done for Christmas that you were hoping to get done?
Just got a call, bit confusing, girl's name is Maureen, she's the lady I met in Canadian Tire, asked me if she could come and pick up the snowmobile neck warmer on her way to work, seeing as I'm going into town told her I'd drop it off at her work..
So Barb, thanks to you I have an extra $100.00 , could you ask me again to show you how to make another, might be able to sell that one also..lol
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Betty, that i s great that you sold one of your neckwarmers! Congratulations!
And look at that plate! Yummy!
Yes, I have Christmas all do ne, and all pressies wrapped! I will most likely go to the dollar store, and pick up a few stocking stuffers, but all big pressies are bought!
Hope this doesn't gross anyone out but I just changed bandages and Scotty has two big hunks out of his arm above the elbow. The big one is still bleeding since 3 this am. I bet he has lost at least 3 oz. Won't go to doc. OH! DEAR!!!
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Bev, call your Dr. and let him know what is going on! There has to be someone that can make him get proper medical care!
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)
Bev, call the EMT or at least get in touch with a nurse.
Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)
I was going to call doc pretty soon thanks. BEV
Lyndonville, NY
Bev, tell Scotty this. If he goes...they will stitch him up and give antibiotics to take and send him home most likely.
IF he doesn't go, continues to bleed, has issues...gets infected, he could be in the hospital for two weeks on an IV.
Big hugs sweety, love you dearly
Debbie
Victoria Harbour, ON
hello Debbie, been wondering where you've been?
Yikes, that doesn't sound good Bev, yep, tell him if he leaves things as are he's likely to find himself in hospital for quite some time, look after it now, might be a quick trip in and out.
Glad you can now relax LindaKay, nice isn't it..
Drats, got to run, flower arrangements to deliver, a few Christmas visits and I'd love to be home by 8pm
Gab after
Lyndonville, NY
I am here, in lurking mode.
Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)
There is nothing to stitch. It just took hunks out. I washed his sweat shirt and scraped skin inside won't wash out. I threw it in the garbage. He won't go. Doc wasn't in and he knows he can't convince him. HUGS BEV
I am going to change bandage again tonight and put some ointment on the places. That is all I can do.
Lyndonville, NY
Bev, fold a guaze pad into a square to make thicker....then put another over the top and tape in place if you can. It will help form a type of compression bandage to stop the bleeding.
Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)
Thanks Debbie I already did that. It has slowed down. We will see what it looks like tonight. HUGS BEV
Ames, NE(Zone 5b)
Good evening to All!
Bev - so sorry to hear about Scotty. Just a thought but, I always use Coban to wrap Tubby's injuries. His skin is very sensitive and tears easy. This stuff sticks to itself, you just don't want to wrap too tight that it cuts off the supply. We'll be thinking of you both and hope things get better.
Betty - The sandwich was delicious. I am glad to hear you got new tires. I'm sure you will feel safer as well. We hope and pray that Ann and Mike gets good news. Let them know we are thinking of them and they are in our prayers and hearts.
I took Tubby to the Med. Center this morning. We first see Infect. Disease Dr. and talked to her. She will get with the rest of the Drs. and see what kind of antibiotics he can have with dialysis. We weren't to see the Oncology specialist till 1:30. but they seen how miserable he was and was having a hard time finding an empty bed for him to lay down in, so he came in right away and seen Tubby. That was nice, he said they would start out slow with Chemo and see how he handles it. They are hoping once we get the Myeloma counts down that he would feel better. Wait and see and pray for the best is all one can do.
He has slept most of the time since we got home. I wish I could do more to help when he is so miserable.
Well, I will close for now, maybe chat some tomorrow evening. I have finish cleaning tomorrow while he is at dialysis. If I don't get back before Santa comes, we want to Wish Everyone the Merriest of Christmas and hope Santa is good to all. I know he will be good to all, as you are on his Good List.
With Our Love and Prayers to Everyone!
Tubby & Shirley
Victoria Harbour, ON
Just got in from delivering florals and did all the rest of my Christmas shopping except for 1 more gift for each of Jeff's boys, need him to give me suggestions or clothes size..
Visited with my elderly relatives, almost feel guilty going in and only spending 1/2 hr. so promised that next week if I'm in Midland I'll drive into Penetanguishene and visit with them.
Stopped into my BIL's and gave them a table arrangement, Lorraine just oooh'd and ahhh'd then about a block away was my MIL, lights were on, I rang the bell several time, knocked on the door but no answer, think she saw the range Aveo and knew who it was..lol..so went back to my BIL and left her arrangement and gift with him...will be 20 years since Roger has passed on and still bad feelings..I'll keep giving her Christmas gifts just the same..some battles you just can't win.
Came home to prime rib, carrots, salad to die for..yikes not good, if Dannie keeps cooking like this I'll weigh a ton before she leaves.
She had moved some of the furniture in her room to accommodate her books, made a little work area, actually it's fine...oh/oh she looked into my cupboards said 1/2 the stuff had expired dates on it, and my food is all over the place, not organized so she will undertake doing that tomorrow.
On the more positive note, she said her husband asked that she go spend the day with them all Christmas eve day and that he would keep his distance and they could do their games/baking etc. as a family so Dannie agreed and she seems up tonight. As well, she explained their Christmas, said that it was all about the birth of Christ and not the commercial Christmas so the focus is on family ONLY and our Lord. She said come New Years that's when the give the children gifts..interesting..think they have it right don't you?
I KNOW that if the news had been good for Mike, Ann would have called me, no call so know what that means.
Got some lovely pressies today from a few swaps/DG friends, Dannie told me I should wait until Christmas to open but explained to her that I have to post photo in the swap and I wasn't cheating.
Have about 1/2 hr. to finish the pocket carryall bag for Suzanne as promised, could finish tonight but will do it in the morning..Darlene will be going to friends for Christmas so she asked if she could come here tomorrow and we'd do jewelery so that she could give all the ladies a set..yesterday I did 2 pendants with matching earings, turned out cute; will take a photo tomorrow to show you...
Shirley, bet Tubby is exhausted! How was he with the prospect of all these treatments? Imagine not happy! Merry Christmas to you and yours as well and hope you do get to post, would miss you if you didn't.
Bev, you'll not sleep tonight worrying about Scotty's bleeding; terrible situation for sure.
Debbie, no more lurking, need someone to gab with...
Mary, worried about you, not like you not to be chatting...
Yawning here so best I call it a night...
Oh, when the young lady fixed my computer she set me up a gmail account as she lost all my e-mail addresses so here I is
bettypauze@gmail.com
If you'd send me an e-mail I can enter your e-mail addresses back into my system..
Lyndonville, NY
I wrote Santa a letter....
Dear Santa, I have tried...so very hard to be good. But circumstances have prevented it.
Either take the children back with you.....or kindly leave a one way ticket for me. Destination does NOT mattter.
I will add a little smackarel of brandy to your Christmas tea & cookies...
Sincerely,
The Mom
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Hey Betty, I sent you an email. I use Gmail also!
Sure hope you get some good news from Mike and Ann.
Shirley, sure hope they get some antibiotics for Tubby! You both have a wonderful Christmas as well!
Night everyone!
Victoria Harbour, ON
Morning all,
Before I went to bed last night I saw I had messages on my telephone recorder, one was from Ann. Ann said she'd drop in today to give me all the particulars. Said that all the test results were not 'definative' enough at this time to cancel the chemo treatments, that they did one yesterday have have scheduled yet another for Jan.4th. Not great news/not bad news and as Ann said, they will be able to enjoy Christmas, make it the best ever and deal with what if to come!!!
Linda Kay, sure will give her a hug from all of you as I know she can use them.
Debbie, you have such a wonderful sense of humour...have me laughing..you could have added 'ticket to another country like Canada.lol
Imagine, we're only a few days away from Christmas, finally here. I'm fretting a little, here I've done all these gifts to bring to seniors home and they haven't gotten back to me about delivering them. Wonder if they think i t will be too much trouble, getting the afghans then having to care for them , some patients have very minimal personal belonging, lordy, something to put on their laps to take away the chill, you wouldn't think that would be a problem now would you. Even if these poor souls got a gift Christmas Eve to make them smile then throw away after it would be worth it. Will call them this morning and see what happens.
Have to call my mom as well, had a bit of difficulty with her last time we spoke and I didn't call her since but best I do!
Extremely cold out there, furnace is working full force, even have the fireplace going in the basement, brrrrr
Should go see what kind of weather they are calling for over the holidays..
Off the finish the last of the pocket carryall then the machine can be set away until next week..
Lexington Park, MD
Debbie your letter to santa had me spitting my morning coffee everywhere .
Too funny.
Shirley and Tubby big hugs. Merry Christmas to both of you.
Betty it seems the closer we get to the big day the faster the days go by.
Off to get more coffee. I still need to bind 3 quilts.
Lost a day yesterday took kids to dentist for cleaning and had to do root canal on 5 year old. Oh what a day........
Talk between sewing......To all have a great day.
Victoria Harbour, ON
Isn't that rare Laura having a root canal for a 5 year old? drats, not a pleasant way of spending a day especially when there is a zillion things you could be doing.
Lol to myself, don't know if it's Tuesday or Wednesday, best I try and find out right?
Ohhh got your box yesterday, I'm going to have hot chocolate on you Christmas morning, love the Christmas cup and that homemade ornament is just too cute..
Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Lexington Park, MD
Wow that took a long time to get to you.I am glad cup made it in one piece. Enjoy. Yes rare rootcanal but what can you do they would not pull the tooth!
It is just beyond me when a person is trying to give quilts,blankets.lap blankets that it is so hard to find a place to give such items.
(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)
Laura, I don't think it's because they don't want them. I think it's because they don't want the resposibility for them. Also, the government here has put so many restrictions on what patients can have. Unless a blanket is "certified" as being flame retardant, they can't allow them. Project Linus is going to court over this.....It costs over $1,000 to obtain a certificate and there are all kinds of hoops to jump through as well. I know the hospital where I used to donate my kids quilts can no longer accept them from me but they can accept them from an organization. I guess that's good but I like to give mine out personally. I'm thinking of going the same route as Thunder and talk to the Police and Fire depts.
