Coffee Break # 49 Happy Christmahanukwanzika!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

True. My best memories are not of gifts I received, but of times with my family as a kid.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I definitely remember Christmas mornings with the family more than any gift. And Christmas eve, when we'd go to bed, for some reason we played practical jokes on each other, short sheeting the beds, etc. We used to have so much fun.

Cute, Deb. My bro used to tell me the blinking red light from some tower was Rudolph!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I've not been on much lately as I have a sad news and im not doing reall well thinking about it.
You may remember me talking about DD Tarsha's best friend Amy. Tarsha was her M.O.H. and Amy was Tarsha's. They became best friends in the 4th grade and have been inseparable ever since.
On Friday night Amy's Mother, Karen had a massive stroke. She had surgery on Sat. morning, they took a piece of her skull off to relieve the pressure and she seemed to be doing better for a short period. Last night she was rushed back into surgery as the bleeding had started again and the pressure was becoming severe.
She is only 50 years old, hasn't had a chance to be a grandmother yet, or see he son get married, she has so much to live for.....it's just not fair!!
I have asked on F.B. for any and all prayer warriors to please pray for her. Now I am asking my good friends here on DG to please pray for a miracle too. As Tarsha said to me last night in a voice I haven't heard since she was 10 ........
"It is the season for miracles....right Mom?"
Yes Tar, it is.

This is Karen back in June, the day her DD got married.....please pray for her if you have a minute.

so sorry to hear that Celeste... hope she does get her miracle!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

So sorry Celeste, prayers for Karen, Amy, Tarsha, you and the rest of the family.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks Allison & Deb
I want to apologize for asking anyone to pray and your not religious, I do not mean to offend... sending good thoughts and wishes Karen's way would be just as lovely and much appreciated. I would do the same for you.....which brings me to my next sentence.
I pray for all my DG friends on a regular basis, but during this time of the year more so. I ask the powers that be for peace, happiness and good health for the year to come for all of you and your families. I pray that you feel loved, happy and healthy, and the negativity in this world does not dampen your spirit for living, loving, giving and gardening.
Peace & Love Always,
Pixie ^_^

Please don't apologize, Celeste. If people can't believe in some higher power and believe in miracles at this time of year then I feel sorry for them.

Prayers are being said for Karen and the entire family. My mom died of a stroke (in December) so I'm hoping Karen gets the miracle. Please let us know of her progress.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Praying for a miracle as well.

Oh Celeste so sorry to hear that sad news. I will be sending healing and peaceful thoughts to your friends♥

Thomaston, CT

I will put her on the prayer list for my Bible study group....very hard to deal with sudden illness at any time, but especially before Christmas. And thank you, Pixie for praying for all of us....I have felt everyone's prayers, and know they have helped me deal with Doug's death. I couldn't do it on my own.

Sending prayers for your friend.

Non religious people than think about helping her family to cope, even if it isn't official 'prayer'.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Celeste, that is indeed sad and dire news about Tarsha's mom. I will send out prayers for her recovery and for all of you and your family as well. 50 is way too young for someone to leave this world. My mother died at 64, and I thought that was much too young. She had so much more yet to live for.

Jo, that sweater was a nice gift. If I had gotten something like that when I was growing up I would not have liked it, as I would have been teased at school. I was teased a lot. Like you, I envied the other kids at school with their store bought clothes. We had donations from the church and stuff from Salvation Army. I hated it.

One of the best presents I ever got as a child was a stuffed deer that looked like Bambi. I had asked Santa for it. Didn't think I'd really get it, but was so hoping.

Deb, I've been wanting to see that train show at the NY Botanic Gardens. Deb, that was cool way for your DH to present that camera gift for you. And neat about the $1.11 from your son.

Celeste, I love the shot of Sophie and the tree.

EWWWWW!!!! I am SO grossed out. I stood in line FOREVER at the PO this morning and just when I got near the front of the line the weinerbrain in front of me FARTED ON MY PARCEL!!! Just let it rip!!!! I was so grossed out I could have thrown up on his shoes. Anyhoo I brought my present back home and washed it. tap....tap.... tap.... waiting for it to dry now tap... tap....tap ....

The best gift I received was not at Christmas...it was when I retired. I had a boy in my class who came from a very poor, dysfunctional family....the kids were born in groups, whenever the father was out of prison. Anyway, he collected enough money from the class to buy me a cardinal beanie bag in it's container, & wrote me the nicest letter. He was the first in his whole family to graduate high school...he was a great student, & went on to a career in law enforcement....

Thomaston, CT

Oh, good grief, Dnut....no apology? I would have been laughing myself sick!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Dnut!!

My husbands mother made his clothes when he was a kid and he said he was teased all the time, looking at some of the pictures now I can see why, she wasn't very fashion savvy. It can be a funny memory now but not so when your a kid. On top of it all he was the only Italian in a rather Irish looking crowd so he stood out even more. I think boys just take it a bit better than girls.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

PO became PU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

ok now I can't send it. I can't someone a stinky present even though it's been washed and recouffed. DRAT! and I made it my dexterously challenged self. I shall have to licketysplit come up with another brilliant idea :-

My bestest present ever was the year we stuffed stockings for EMoo and made them pancakes for breakfast ie. did a complete role reversal Christmas morning. I think I was still a kidling because as I recall the pancakes were pretty lame.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Cousin Nut, my condolences to you and your farted upon package! Cute memory from days gone by.

Marilyn, on a brighter note, what a nice story about your student. Glad to hear he did something positive with his life. That's tough to do when you come from a dysfunctional home.

Oh Dear, Celeste...I'm so sorry to hear this news about Karen. You can count on my prayers for sure.

And Arlene - I'm terribly sorry to hear you lost your lovely Mom recently. I was not aware of your loss. I know she was very special. Sending you hugs as well as to Celeste, Tarsha and Amy!

Dahlia - ewwwwwww. Unthinkable pollution!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I would send it anyway, after all it's the personal touch that really makes a present!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes!!!
Karen had the second surgery, they think the bleeding has stopped but they said her left side is toast. It is very unlikely she will ever be able to use the left side of her body again....this is so sad but Amy & Michael still have their Mom and i DO believe in miracles. She is not out of the woods yet, far from it....but we are hoping and praying the bleeding has stopped for good and no more brain damage will occur.

D-Nut...thank you for the laugh, I really needed it!!! However, I am sorry you have a stinky ornament!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

So glad to hear she made it through the second surgery. Miracles do happen and there are recoveries that even surprise doctors. I'll continue praying for her and her family.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thank you Pirl :)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sorry D-nut about your stinky package.

Still praying here Celeste. I was so tired last night I forgot to post, our friend is also in the hospital with a head injury, swelling on the brain they have him in an induced coma. They don't know what happened supposedly he fell and hit his head, but they don't know why he fell. He's in his 60's, used to work with hubby, one of the nicest guys I know, had a heart transplant about 20 years ago and was doing great.

Thomaston, CT

If you really think about it there's always something on the list to pray about. So the verse "pray without ceasing"
