Great pics guys!
Good assortment Hack! Love the one of the Canada Goose.
Nanny, Sweet one of the Carolina Wren resting!
Nice ones Elphaba! Love the Titmouse.
Daily Bird Pics - Vol. 362
I was afraid for the feeder because of high winds last night. All is ok but not as much seed. the ground feeding birds will benefit.
Lily, glad you're seeing the Coots. We took a drive yesterday hunting for pelicans and didn't locate any, but the Coots were everywhere. We estimated we saw at least several thousand of them in just a small portion of our lake. Congrats on the bluebird!
Teddy, I lived in that snow for a number of years and am very glad to have just the cold temps here. Enjoy your cardinals-they sure are beautiful with the snow.
Missy, congrats on the new lifer! Love that wp too!
Burn, I'm glad the Redpolls showed up-your photos are beautiful. Love the photos of the waxwings too-they sure are pretty.
Hack, hope you're right about the juncos showing up there-I love their coloring. Great job with all your shorebirds!! I especially enjoyed that gull taking off from the water-nice job!! The Ring-necked Ducks are so clear-more great work!!
Nanny, you know you've created a bird sanctuary when your birds will settle down and close their eyes for a rest-well done, that wren is a cutie!
Elphaba, you did a great job with the butter-butt photos. Those little birds move faster than my camera too. Great job with the Eastern Phoebe, finch and titmouse too.
Iris, hope that wind will let up now.
As I said earlier, we found several thousand Coots on our lake yesterday. Most were spread out on the fog covered lake, but this one granted me one photo of the interesting feet on this bird. I'm always amazed at how large they are.

Wow duc those are great! I absolutely love the American Coot where you see those hilarious feet. You just have to adore those handsome Acorn Woodpeckers!
Congratulations on the new bird! They are really an attractive species.
That's a killer closeup of the Acorn WP, Duc!!
I would like to know something is it ever too cold for certain winter birds to feed?
It shouldn't be because they have to eat sometime. If there isn't natural foods around like berries and insects then the feeders are the only other alternative.
Elphaba, I see C. Wrens at my suet feeders quite often, or on the ground below eating what has fallen. AND your Yellow-rumped Warblers are great, I especially like the 1st pic.
Thanks pelle and duc for the kind words about my pix. But I tell you, duc, that head shot of the Acorn Wp blows me away - great.
teddy, I see my birds feed at all times, course, it doesn't get as cold here as up north. Outside at 9AM today it was 30 degrees and the birds were active. And I've also seen them feed in the rain. About the only time I don't see any birds is when a hawk is in the vicinity.

You are right, the hawks I saw the other day might be back, but it is too cold to go out and see. It is 15 degrees, which with the wind feels like -2. So I will take pictures of whatever comes to the feeder and platform. This tree is in our neighbors yard, it looked really pretty, so I thought I would share it with everybody.
Somehow I have got to find a suet cake, I can get good pictures because our suet cake holder is not that far from our front door, I have seen Downy wp on it, female flicker and chickadees, nuthatches. I would like to know if the Cardinal would eat off of it.
teddy, I can't remember ever seeing a Card eat any of my suet. But they love Black Oil Sunflower seed.
Hack
Dang Hack -- that is some good tweaking on that lovely tree!
I am amazed by all of you that can take photos with snow falling. Love the crow!
Duc, total WOW on the Acorn Woodpecker.
Thanks Hackster, I appreciate your tweaking. Makes the pics look a whole lot sharper.
Hack great waterfowl pictures, love the Mallards and Ring-necked Ducks.
Nanny, your little wren seem very relaxed around your yard. Nice trio on the feeder, it's great, to see them sharing together.
Elphaba, your Warbler and Phoebe are a joy to see, this time of year for me.
Duc congrat on your lifer, I so wish one day to get a close up shot, of one of Kestrel. And that Acorn Woodpecker, what a beauty.
Teddy, the birds that stays or migrate to our respective area during winter, can handle the cold weather. They know, when a storm is coming, it's usually a panic at the feeders to prepare for it.
Here is one of our winter birds, The Blue Jay.
We have Black-capped Chickadees all year round, I honestly think that one of the ones that has been here all the time is the baby we saved. One of the gf was on the thistleseed sock the other day when I filled it up, I did not think he was going to get off so I could fill it, he sure did not go far away! There has been more of the gf this week than I have seen in awhile. They might have lost their color but they are still pretty. These guys were hungry!
Very cool GG!!!! Wish one would come to my yard...I only see them when I am out and no camera! I have spotted one on my way to Greencastle thru the country. I am hoping I will be able to get one a photo of it.
Teddy, I have seen my cardinlas eat suet but it has to be where they can perch & access it. They can't cling on the suet cage well.
The storm brought in a Song Sparrow looking for food. Hadn't seen on for awhile.
I have the same experience as nanny with the Cardinals eating suet. Unfortunately there are not many suet feeders with perches that Cardinals like.
Congrats GG!
Nice pics Burn, Nanny, Teddy and GG!
Nice pictures everyone. Love that Acorn Woodpecker.
Thanks for the congrats. Pelle. That is a lifer for me. What a beautiful bird!
GG, great Kestrel. I"m jealous that you got one so close. I see them in a couple spots around here but they are very jumpy and don't let me get close. Love the Jay too.
Nanny, cool that the song sparrow showed up. I'm hoping to see some soon, along with Tree Sparrows. More snow on the way tomorrow/Thursday. I better get some more seed in.
Congrats GG on the Kestrel, what a gorgeous bird! I see them in our area but haven't gotten a shot in years...lucky you!
These threads are moving faster than I can think...well done everyone!!
Love that Acorn portrait Duc, they are such a fun bird to watch!!
Just went outside to fill all the feeders and bird bath. Had 3 layers on because it's bitterly cold with high winds and overcast conditions. No wonder I'm not outside with the camera. :-)
Can feel I'm coming down with something too. :-(
Nice short little story on Fox Sparrows: http://wildnewjersey.tv/2010/12/14/dons-jersey-birding-crazy-like-a-foxsparrow.aspx

I know what you mean pelletory, I just got done nursing my husband when he had something we don't know what it is, and about 6:30 this morning I woke up with a sore throat and the sniffles. I thought I had beat it, but no luck. Hope you get feeling better, and can beat it.Until it gets a little warmer, I think I will cut back on trying to get a good picture, to do it I have to go out to the entryway, and there is NO heat in there, plus I look out the front door and it is made of glass, so that is just as cold. But I do love the pictures from california. Warms me up sometimes. Hopefully we don't get this much snow again, this was 14 inches last winter, so I would not complain about the cold temps, we could have this again.
Nanny, great photos of the wps on your feeder. I'm still trying to draw mine closer, but I guess we just have too many trees around us. You are sure attracting lots of great birds there-love the white-throated.
Burn, great photos. That jay sure is a beauty and I'm loving the Redpolls.
Granny, wow, the kestrel is so beautiful and you got it in the good lighting. I'm still waiting for the sun so I can go find mine again.
Pelle, your junco is beautiful. I'd love to see one of those Fox Sparrows.
Wow, Teddy, sure hope you don't get that much snow this year.
Here's a few more photos from our drive the other day. An Eared Grebe.
