Daily Bird Pics - Vol. 362

...ooops, Drake Mallard with Rock. (correction to above pic.).

Lakeview, OH

My male and female Cardinals finally arrived, been trying all morning to get a picture of both of them. Got some of the male, but a bit blurry, maybe Hack can sharpen them a bit. I tried to use Picasa, but could not do a whole lot, but I will post the better of the two and maybe he can do something with it.

And here is the other one. I had the pair in my viewfinder and then I twitched and there went the picture.

I envy you right now,Kelseyville,CA, you are getting the good weather while we are getting the snow and wind. I am going to try later on to get a better picture of the Cardinal and his mate, they are so pretty against the white snow. The Blue Jay was back too, but he was so fast there was no way I could catch him. I wonder if I put some Sunflower Seed on the ground if I could entice the Cardinal to come and eat, what do you think? If the squirrels would not eat it all up first. Any ideas on that?

Marlton, NJ

Teddy, I would think the squirrels would get it first.

Red, Nice pics!

Lily Cute ducks!

Duc, I really love that Junco shot. So good through the window.

Lakeview, OH

Got some pics with my camera, going to try to clear up the pics with picasa.

Got me an Eastern Blue Bird the other day. Brrrrr, it's cold everywhere even here. We've got some snow flurries but none has stuck to the ground yet. Thanks for your comments everyone.

The cold weather sure brings the birds to the feeders! I got a lifer today! A Red-breasted Nuthatch! They are only here in the winter. She (I believe) showed up at my suet feeder briefly. I was only able to snap a couple of not so great photos. Here's one.

Then the Bohemian Waxwings made an appearance. they were eating I think salt in the driveway. The pictures of the Waxwings didn't turn out to well and had to play around with them. But will share anyway.

Tsk, tsk, don't they know salt is bad for them?!

Guess they were more likely after salt-melted water; berries make for a thirsty diet.

Oh burn I love those Redpoll's!! Nice ones of the Bohemian Waxwings too!

South Hamilton, MA

Are you sure that they were not after grit? We have a gravel on sand driveway & they often work it over.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Iris, it's highly possible, they do use sand on the road here, when it snows. They will only use salt and sand if it's icy. And we didn't get icy road yet. Looking for water is also a good assumption.
Thanks Pelle.

"Nice", I'll say, Burd, that female red-belly is great.

reddirtretiree, nice pix of the Downy and GOFIN.

Lily, liked the drake Mallards, I saw some at the creek pond the other day. I share them later

ducbucln, I think, not real sure, that I saw a Junco here - but it may have been a Titmouse. But it was on the ground feeding and that is why I think I saw a Junco

burn - I liked the look of the Redpolls and the salt eating the Bohemian Waxwings

teddy, here's about the best I could do with you male Card.. I think that since your pretty boy is not in the center, that is why he is not in sharp focus.

Wow, I haven't check-in in a while and I'm just amazed! These photos are beautiful and what a great variety of birds. Duc, those berry shots you started with are just stunning. Burn, amazing grosbeak. Hack, so jealous of your beautiful house finches. Mine left for some reason. I'm sure you'll see a yellow one soon.

Nanny and Hack both caught behavior that I saw for the first time this last weekend, a Carolina Wren at the feeder. I've never seen one eat from my feeder before. I was shocked.

Also, if you plant it, they will come. Planted a wax myrtle a few years ago because sign said "attracts more than 30 kinds of birds." I hadn't noticed that birds were particularly attracted to it until this weekend. A Ruby-crowned kinglet and a Yellow-rumped Warbler have been eating the berries every morning for the last three days. I've never seen either of them eating berries before. Guess the bug population is down. Hard to believe since something bit me right through my jeans yesterday.

Almost had two great pics of yellow-rumped but they were both in the shade. Sharing anyway. LOL, just loaded the pic and it's not one of the two that I was thinking of. Guess I had 3 almost good pics. Wonder where those other two are?
