Yes, it's a big job, & no one felt up to it this year.....almost every building in town is lit, but I wanted to get home, the crowds were insane, so I just snapped a few.
What and When Holiday Decor
Jen - do you have any of the snowbaby tree ornaments?
No I don't have any of those.
Robin, love the town lights, love those classic churches with the steeples.
Love the exterior lighting, but hate putting it up in the cold. Really admire people who have the fortitude to do it (and no fair leaving it up all year, unless it doesn't show) ;-)
Me too, too cold for me to put much out.
I too like the way they lit up the steeples of the buildings, very pretty!
up 6500 lights and haven't even made a dent in the decorations

WOW!!!!!!!!!
Cool!!!
Allison, the town should pay you for the decorations!
Just got the decorations out. Will start tomorrow.
Going to do my outdoor decor tomorrow too...it's hubby's job to do the lights...let's see how long it takes him this year to get them up.
I have to wait for the fall cleanup to do outside.
We're still doing catch up from the trip, so it may take awhile to get to the decorations and a tree!
Our outside is done other than a few little things here andther I can do myself. Couldn't pass up the weather today, I can't take the cold so figured why not. A bit early for me but now I can work on my village inside.
We do the luminaries every year, it looks so pretty. Just about the whole neighborhood does it and everyone on my street participates. We put ours out ourselves. A few people in the area pass out flyers and you can buy the bags and candles through them or get your own. I buy through them for a couple of extra bucks they get delivered to my door sand and all, and the money goes to some charity or another every year. For the past few years it has rained here on Christmas eve so no nice pics. I hope to get one this year.
so many of our things need light replacement.. my fingers are killing me from poking them though holes & using zip ties... hate this part.. with the heavy snow last year 1/2 of our train was out... 2 more cars left to fix.. but I am calling it quits for tonight
Ronnie, would love to see the luminarias on your street! Hope you can get some photos this year.
I'd like to see them too, Ronnie. I've tried to get good shots of our street, but they just don't come out nearly as pretty as it looks. Ours are recycled from year to year by the guys that put them out and pick them back up. Everyone contributes when they get low on paper bags or sand or candles. Any way they do it, it is a nice community feeling in the neighborhood. We walk all around the 'hood looking at them. It is really lovely.
Here is a shot from last year.....
nice Louise
Both my sisters neighborhoods in FL did the luminaries
I thought luminaries were important people!
har har
Nice, Louise! One year I was taking a late afternoon class at Central CT....as it got dark, luminarias were lit all around campus....never did anything like that when I was an undergrad....looked very festive!
I made one of these yesterday came out pretty good...

They're pretty Jen!
Thanks, Allison and Marilyn! I wish the photos would come out better. It's really hard to capture it.
Jen - thanks for providing that link! That looks really nice. I will try that.

showing a piece about getting cut trees shipped to the house on the news... costco had them listed on black friday... Randy wouldn't like that.... takes him FOREVER to pick one out.. wonder if they are good or not
I just went down to my neighbors....picked up the smallest concolor fir I saw....it has no pointed top, but I loved it anyway....it's in my garden now....took me 2 minutes!
got our tree today - will decorate later this week
got ours yesterday, but didn't get it set up til today, so far have lights and beads on
Hubby got some new lights and put them up...even had to climb up on the roof to hang some.
Put the "man" tree up in son's room...that's the tree with all the NASCAR, fire dept, etc "man" type ornaments
very cool.... but I would add more lights... LOL
I can't believe it's done with Lobster traps! Hope they washed them or that could be a smelly tree!! LOL
Looks great Ge!! I can see why you wait to put up the tree...40 neighbors!
Very nice, Jo.
I'll get my tree at week's end.
Finished indoor decorations. Waiting for the leaf pickup to do outside.
Very welcoming, Jo! Pixie, I saw the lobstertrap tree in Kport a few years ago....Santa came down the river on a lobstah boat!
LOL Robin! Thats cools, i'd like to go sometimes.
