What and When Holiday Decor

Thomaston, CT

Yes, it's a big job, & no one felt up to it this year.....almost every building in town is lit, but I wanted to get home, the crowds were insane, so I just snapped a few.

Quote from DonnieBrook :
Jen - do you have any of the snowbaby tree ornaments?

No I don't have any of those.

Robin, love the town lights, love those classic churches with the steeples.

Norridgewock, ME(Zone 5a)

Love the exterior lighting, but hate putting it up in the cold. Really admire people who have the fortitude to do it (and no fair leaving it up all year, unless it doesn't show) ;-)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Me too, too cold for me to put much out.
I too like the way they lit up the steeples of the buildings, very pretty!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

up 6500 lights and haven't even made a dent in the decorations

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool!!!

Allison, the town should pay you for the decorations!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Just got the decorations out. Will start tomorrow.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Going to do my outdoor decor tomorrow too...it's hubby's job to do the lights...let's see how long it takes him this year to get them up.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have to wait for the fall cleanup to do outside.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

We're still doing catch up from the trip, so it may take awhile to get to the decorations and a tree!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Our outside is done other than a few little things here andther I can do myself. Couldn't pass up the weather today, I can't take the cold so figured why not. A bit early for me but now I can work on my village inside.

We do the luminaries every year, it looks so pretty. Just about the whole neighborhood does it and everyone on my street participates. We put ours out ourselves. A few people in the area pass out flyers and you can buy the bags and candles through them or get your own. I buy through them for a couple of extra bucks they get delivered to my door sand and all, and the money goes to some charity or another every year. For the past few years it has rained here on Christmas eve so no nice pics. I hope to get one this year.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

so many of our things need light replacement.. my fingers are killing me from poking them though holes & using zip ties... hate this part.. with the heavy snow last year 1/2 of our train was out... 2 more cars left to fix.. but I am calling it quits for tonight

Thomaston, CT

Ronnie, would love to see the luminarias on your street! Hope you can get some photos this year.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I'd like to see them too, Ronnie. I've tried to get good shots of our street, but they just don't come out nearly as pretty as it looks. Ours are recycled from year to year by the guys that put them out and pick them back up. Everyone contributes when they get low on paper bags or sand or candles. Any way they do it, it is a nice community feeling in the neighborhood. We walk all around the 'hood looking at them. It is really lovely.

Here is a shot from last year.....

Nice, Louise! One year I was taking a late afternoon class at Central CT....as it got dark, luminarias were lit all around campus....never did anything like that when I was an undergrad....looked very festive!
