Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

What a scene.
We dont have that much, just icicle lights on the porch and a few futurestic trees.I'm not sure SIL and DD will get those up this year. They are still working on the powder room.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

can only do what you can do.... I say any decorations are good ones!!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I agree.

I say none is the best, you dont have to clean up the mess.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Unless it warms up I won't be putting my outside decorations up!

The 'miracle cure' of peroxide seems to have helped quite a bit. I feel much better.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I've seen those before Victor, I like them...which one did you get?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I like those but we have a window in our door.
I've been looking for an outdoor nativity that won't empty my bank account.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Have hubby build one.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

ROTFL.....yeah, like he has time to do that....LOL he still hasn't bought the extra shed he said he was going to...oh yeah and he still owes me a potting shed for our anniversary 2 years ago.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No rush. ^_^

Thomaston, CT

I also have a window in my front door, so just a wreath goes there, but I do like the package look! Hang in there, Jen!

This was a fun thread to go through! Sure hate to hear that so many of you are sick though! Hope you all feel better soon and then stay well through all the holidays.

I don't remember our puppies paying much attention to the tree last year, but now that they are able to be loose in the house alone, that could change. LOL We're going to move it over by the fireplace this year. That's where the puppy exercise pen was last year at this time.

I used to start decorating the day after Thanksgiving, but for some reason - I seem to get lazy and do it later each year. It's really different when you are away from the kids and grandkids during the holidays. I don't seem to have as much incentive. No excuse really, because Hank and I both love Christmas. You would think it wouldn't be very Christmasy down here, but people go all out with decorations and we can find nice Frasier Firs here. I love looking at all of my special tree ornaments as I decorate, because many were handmade by special students or good friends and it makes me think about each person with great fondness.

Another tradition I do is to set the dining room table with my Cuthbertson Christmas china and silver and crystal the day after Thanksgiving. It stays there through Christmas day and then gets put away. I brought two more boxes of it down with us this time. Hank and I make some sort of small gift for 12 of our neighbors each year. Last year we spray-painted old golf balls red and green and made tree ornaments out of them with red velvet ribbons and some glitter. Some got three that said "HO HO HO". Fun!

That's so clever, Louise! I usually start decorating the second week of Dec. I found a very cute set of mice for under the tree.....except when Grant is visiting.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the only china in this house ends with an ET

:)

Next year I will take out my parent's china set that my mom gave me. Had to wait for the kids to get bigger.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Funny Allison!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I do admire anyone who keeps special china for special events.
We dont dine that formally anymore.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't have china, but do have many sets of dishes, for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, winter, everyday, Mexican meals, Italian meals, etc.
I like square dishes, so have a set of red and a set of light green, that I set a smaller square plate on for the holiday. I have smaller plates: pointsettia, daffodil, fall leaves.
Wegmans always have dishes for sale, right now they have a sunflower set, waiting for them to be on clearance and I might pick some up.
But I am running out of storage space.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Sounds great Deb.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

deb my wife likes those square plates too - use to have china until we had a disaster when one of the glass shelves gave way in the cabinet - lost most of the china and crystal wine glasses a few years back - heard the crash from down by the pond - pretty depressing and what a mess - that stuff really breaks into tiny pieces!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like square plates too. Nice look.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

There are times tht try ones soul

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'll probably take out the decorations on Friday and start on the weekend.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

When I was young, we had a free standing cupboard with many dishes from my grandmother. I needed something from the top, so climbed up it. It crashed down on me breaking most of the contents, my mom was not very happy with me that day, or week, or...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My wife and BIL also knocked down the china cabinet.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

these were in a corner cabinet that idid screw into a stud in the back so it would not tip - it was those little brass pieces that you set into the wood and lay the shelving on that gave on us - i ended up milling so oak pieces to mounting them in the cabinet - bomb proof now - still...................

SIL is going to VA. to finish installing and dedicating the latest organ they built.
This leaves DD and GD to do the decor.
I bought a tree and wreath for the front.
I made some tussy mussy for the wreath and DD will add lights.
Tussymussy is Lavander, some lime nicotene plant bstill hanging on in the planters and last of the yarrow plus scraps of yarn.
Its our turn to have the hood holiday party on the 11th. SIL will be back but not in time to do the tree trim etc.
