Not exactly sure why it's called a Jewish Apple cake, but it' kind of like a bundt cake with sugar coated apples, cinnamon, ect....it's really just a great apple cake that can be eaten anytime.....it's wonderful for breakfast :)

Thanksgiving plans???
I would like that.
Yummy, Lucy - except for Daffy.
Daffy?
Duck!!
Duck was quite good. all dark meat but i eat the brest which is not as strong as the rest. Certainly would not wish to be eating turkey until christmas. We may get one more meal plus any sandwiches. Wait until your boys are teen agers, probably will need 2 turkeys.
My sixth-grader already eats like a teenager.
Don - your way of doing the brussel sprouts sounds interesting. I think I'd like that. It's nice to hear from you! Sounds like you and everyone else here had a great day of good food yesterday!
I think I'd also like that Jewish Apple Cake. I'll have to ask my SIL if she makes that cake. (She's Jewish). I may request it the next time she offers to bring something. lol
Never had Jewish Apple Cake, sounds good
Oh my some of you don't know what your missing, never having my mom's Jewish Apple Cake! LOL As Celeste said it is sooo good for breakfast. From what I read it's called "Jewish" because there is no dairy in it making it kosher so they could have it during the Holidays. I've been eating it since I was a kid and been baking it since my mom passed 25 years ago. It is also quite an east coast tradition, very big in bakeries here in Philly. I'll gladly share my recipe if anyone wants it!
Now tell me you never had raisin cake either!
Yes, please share!
Here ya go...easy to make other than pealing and slicing the apples.
Jewish Apple Cake
Mix and set aside:
5 tbs. Sugar
3 tsp. Cinnamon
ingredients:
8-10 medium apples peeled and sliced
1/2 c canola oil
1&1/2 c sugar
4 eggs
1/2 c orange juice
2 tsp. Vanilla
3 c unbleached flour sifted with~
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
2&1/2 tsp baking soda
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350
Mix oil, sugar, eggs and orange juice together and mix well
Sift dry ingredients together and add liquid gradually, add vanilla and mix well.
Add cinnamon mixture to apples and get them all coated.
Add to cake batter and mix well by hand (mixer will chop up the apples)
Pour all into a large bunt pan and bake for about an hour to an hour and a half. Cake is done when a tooth pick inserted in center comes out clean. Start checking it in an hour.
Tips:
Spray pan generously with spray made specifically for baking, it now has added flour and your cake will come right out. That was a cake saver for me.
Sometimes I add chopped walnuts, depends on who will be eating it.
Don't eat until the next day if you can wait, it gets much better!!
Sounds like a winner. I will give it to my DH, the better baker, and tell him to get busy! We brought back a mess of Vt apples on Tuesday so we have everything in hand. Yummy. Patti
Ronnie I was wondering if you put O.J. in your recipe.....and you do!!! I've had it both with and without and think the O.J. gives it a better flavor.
I've had it both ways too, way better with the OJ for some reason!
Had TG dinner at SIL's so no leftovers. DH is doing a turkey for us today so that we HAVE leftovers. I get a free one from work.
Thanks for the recipe, Ronnie! That one is a definite at some point this winter! Sounds really good!
Mmmm....cake & apples, can't go wrong there!
