Going to DH's sister today. We are taking veggie plate cheese, summer sausage, craker plate and a pumpkin roll. We are also taking the turkey butter. They are in the shape of a turkey.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
Thanksgiving plans???
Just found this thread....Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
Hank and I are opting for a quiet day alone here with the girls. I made almost the whole traditional dinner with a couple of adjustments. I did a turkey breast and made an herb paste of olive oil, my dried oregano, minced garlic, sea salt and cracked black pepper - then spooned it up under the skin and rubbed the remainder onto the skin of the bird. I also stuck 1/4 of an apple up under the skin as well. It was yummy and moist. I also did cornbread stuffing with hot sausage and folded in diced apples after cooking the stuffing in the microwave instead of in the oven. Hank doesn't like stuffing baked, and I have to say it was much better cooked in the microwave. I never tried that before. I think the hot sausage makes the stuffing. I also did the sweet potato/pecan casserole that is too yummy for words. Hank made his traditional jello waldorf salad and the cranberry sauce and buttered peas rounded out the dinner. No bread - like JoAnn, I skip the bread and have only a taste of the stuffing so I can have a piece of pumpkin pie. One of our neighbors is sick and had to cancel her plans so she wouldn't infect anyone, so I made her a "fancy" tray of our dinner with colorful flowers from my yard and Hank delivered it to her. I can't stand the thought of anyone being alone at Thanksgiving unless they prefer to be.
JoAnn - that is great news about your reduction in meds. Hooray for you!
Rosie - that story about cleaning the oven with the turkey inside is hysterical....but I'll bet it wasn't funny at the time!
Victor - at your RU this summer, would you please have your Mom bake those exact desserts for it??? LOL
Celeste - If you want a sister, you've got one!! :)
Helen - Man! You're a Pie Machine! I can't imagine taking all of the fillings etc. to someone's house to make all of those pies!! Amazing!
Lucy - how do you make your turkey butters? Do you have a mold for them?
Debi - that is sweet that your son and his love are making their first T-Day meal. I remember getting the same kind of calls from my son when he started cooking. Fun, isn't it?
Jen - you smart girl! I can just taste that homemade apple pie! That's the BEST!
WC - what are you going to do with your Indian riches???? lol
Hope everyone is having a great day! Gotta cut this off and take the girls for a walk.
Geez $250.00 Indian Rupees is only worth $5.50 us - I put it in my coin/bill collection.
- But the $40 US is going to a good cause... (lol!)
Happy Turkey Day! ☺
Nice WC!
Cool! Use the rupees at 711!
Would it go further in an Indian restaurant? :)
Hmmm! There's an Idea Louise!! lol!!!
The day was fun but tiring....just the 5 of us for dinner, then my stepdaughter & her husband & my son & his family came....everyone has finally left, and I'm ready for bed.
stuffed from dinner. Louise, I buy it at the store, they mold it to look like turkey.
Duck was very good. So was the sugar free apple pie--very full of cinnamon which is fine for diabetics. stuffing & gravy, squash & cranberry sauce. Really didn't feel full which was nice.
Ugh, I ate too much!
Victor, the sister sleepover starts at 5, going to lights on the lake first, then back for dinner, and popcorn and movies after that, so you can plan accordingly.
Just recovering after quiet Thanksgiving dinner at home. DW got turkey parts so we wouldn't have so much leftover, plus sweet potatoes with butter and cranberry relish and of course pumpkin pie. I combined two recipes to produce Brussels Sprouts with Carrots and Bacon which turned out pretty well and uncorked some Gato Negro wine. Appenzeller and Rogue Smoky Blue Cheese for appetizers.
the bird was great - sandwhich almost as good last night - lots of leftovers which is fine here.
Sounds like everyone had a great day! We had 15 of us here and no dry turkey either. ^_^
I forgot my cranberry sauce in the fridge, it will go on the sandwiches now.
Leaving now, Deb! ^_^
Everything was great here. Bird was delish.
We had....
Turkey w/ mashed taters and gravy, sausage stuffing, cranberry sauce, seasoned squash, corn, pickled beets, yeast rolls, clam dip and chips, veggie tray and garlic-dill dip, peanut butter blossom cookies, deep-dish apple pie, pumpkin-spice pie, Triple layer chocolate creme pie, pumpkin bead, tourtier pie, pickles and as DH would say "Pink Drinks!"
Triple layer chocolate creme pie.......oh my! Patti
When I got home from work on Wed there was a flower arrangement to greet me, a nice surprise, DH hadn't done that for awhile.
Awe, how sweet is that!
Sure it was from DH?!!! Hee hee! ^_^
heehee
Maybe I sent it ahead of the sisters' party!
hhmmm...
Victor, so where are my flowers? Feeling jilted. Patti
Have to be discreet and go slowly so the Mrs. doesn't get suspicious.
We had turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, kugli, green beans, mashed rutabaga with bacon, and pumpkin pie..... I was stuffed. Had chicken soup & a smoothie for lunch today...... Don't like leftovers, but I have a fridge full, even after all the doggie bags. Tried to get son to take home turkey, but he picked out a 20 pounder at the farm.....can't believe he was on a first name basis with his dinner!
Just had my mom's delish apple pie after lunch.
Still have half a pumpkin left!
Robin we love the leftovers here, they don't last long.
Happy Day After, everyone. We just polished off the rest of the turkey breast for lunch. mmmmmm. Love turkey! Today is major football day....but I spent the morning out in the humidity whacking back the overgrowth in the front yard and planting a few of the many wave petunias I bought that will go in sooner or later. Lower humidity tomorrow, so hope we get some progress made before these babies dry out.
Deb - your Sister sleepover sounds like a great time! I miss my sisters....we haven't done a Sisterfest weekend in years....miss it! Hope you and Sue have a ball!
MMMM, Marilyn and Victor........good pies left!!! mmmmmm.
Thanks Louise, we try to get together at least every other month. I'll be heading out soon.
We had smoked turkey, mashed taters, sweet potatoes, broccoli casserole, sauteed cauliflower, beets, green beans almondine, chestnut stuffing, mushroom stuffing, apple sauce, cranberry sauce, crescent rolls, apple pie(with ice cream), pumpkin pie(with whipped cream), cheese cake, cannoli
Everybodys dinners sound so yummy!!!
It's so cool to read the different side everyone serves. We had Turkey and stuffing of course, gravy, mashed and sweets, green beans with garlic and butter, corn, baked rigatoni with hot sausage, cranberries, and rolls. How anyone had room for desert was beyond me, I've never seen so much food flying around a table before! LOL...Desert was to die for, Jewish apple cake, white chocolate pound cake, pumpkin cheese something or others, cheese cake, brownies and toffee bars, and sticky buns with cream cheese frosting. I had apple cake and sticky buns for breakfast...there the leftovers I like!!
Ronnie, I love Jewish Apple Cake, I haven't had it in forever!!!
What's in Jewish apple cake? Never had it.
duck, stuffing, gravy, butternut squash, sugar free apple pie & light eggnog for TG. We have some duck, stuffing & gravy left over. Managed to finish the squash which I thought was a particularly good one.
