Going to try to post a pic of our new feeder, I was trying to get a pic of our resident nuthatch, but he just would not pose for me:( So here goes on the feeder. It has 8 ports for our friends to share.
DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 354
That's a nice big one! Reminds me that we should revive our "show us your feeders" thread.
OK Nanny, once again you are hogging the cool birds! You really had the whole spectrum of woodpeckers huh? Great shots.
Duc, LOVE your photos especially the bald eagle.
Burn, wish it would rain more here. Don't knock it until you haven't had it! Just transplanted a dwarf Mexican cherry tree that I think is dead from the drought. Lovely bird pics even through the rain!
Hack, very nice shots of our colorful favorites.
kc8tbq, I don't want to scare you, but... I had that feeder. I really liked it for a long time until the squirrels or birds got the lid off of it, and a white winged dove tried to get down in it for seed. The dove fell in, was stuck upside-down (white-wings are as fat as the feeder) and died. I found it the next morning when I went to reload. I threw the whole thing out. Now, I have a similar one that opens from the bottom, so no possibility of a dove tragedy.
Got a new bird for backyard and life lists yesterday, a Brown Creeper! I did not get a good photo though. The only decent photo yesterday was this boring old House Sparrow eating Crepe Myrtle seeds.
Have y'all started judging the photo contest? Unbelievable photos and they've given me some great ideas. No bird pics today b/c I am going to be gardening like a crazy woman. I definitely want a fairy pot!
Burn, we could sure use a rain like you're getting. Love the lightning streak of yellow on that waxwing! Cute jay and chickadee too!
Gardenpom, congrats on your first robin-I'm still waiting for mine.
Nanny, cute pics of the junco and nuthatch. That little wren is adorable.
Elphaba, sad story of your feeder and the dove. I do hope that kc will not have the same problem.
I was taking pictures of this Brewer's Blackbird when it started to take off. Sure made for a strange photo.
I have a spider that needs identifying, we want to know whether it is poisonous or not, he is in the corner of the bathroom and has made a rather large web. He doesn't seem aggressive, whenever we go past he either sits real still or goes back into his web. We don't want to have to kill him, my husband just found out that he IS aggressive! I will try to post a picture of the spider and maybe someone out there can tell me whether it would be a good idea to kill him or maybe we can let him live. If we can get him into a container, maybe we can take him outside, and he can make a web out there.
Best to post that over here in the Bug and Spider ID forum. You'll have more luck there.
I'd just move him outside.

Thanks for the pic kc! I second on moving spider outside!
Elphaba, congrats on your Creeper!! And you have lots of cool birds too!
OMG duc....... that hawk shot is soooooo awesome!
I was walking our nature trail we have down by the lake today...no pix but I saw a Sharp-shinned Hawk. I haven't seen one of those for a couple of years!
Spotted Cedar Waxings down by this little pond last week.

Great shots, everyone. Nanny, you see such a diverse range of birds. I'd so love to see a Pileated.
Thanks for a colourful start, Mrs Ed. The finch in the maple is gorgeous.
And speaking of birds I'd love to see, I love to see any Waxwings. Love your Bohemians, Burn. Even the name is a treat.
Hack, nice shots. Your male Cardinal sure does look cold.
Duc, as if your Bald Eagle shots weren't fabulous enough, you come along with that shot of the Red-tailed Hawk which has blown me out of the water.
A couple of shots of Carnaby's Black Cockatoos silhouetted in the big gum tree in our backyard yesterday morning. These big, beautiful birds gladden and sadden the heart at the same time. They are so beautiful and yet I'm always so aware of the dire threat they're under due habitat destruction. One of the last vestiges of virgin bushland that has been home to them forever has just been given the go ahead for urban development. So dreadfully sad.
In this first shot, they're doing what parrots, galahs and cockatoos do all the time - preen and gently talk to each other.
Margaret such a shame about the development. Great pictures on both post sites today.
Mmm. Not the best quality on that sapsucker. It was really not light enough to shoot, but when photo'ing wildlife, you take them as you get them. :)
Nanny, hope you get to see more waxwings! I want to come see your pileated too! Haven't seen any here this year and I was so discouraged.
Margaret the cockatoos are so beautiful. Maybe you should write a book on them and tell people what's going on. Your beautiful photos would really bring these birds to life and show how they're being driven away.
Red, great photos of the vultures, sorry about the armadillo though. At least you have a record of your sapsucker!
GP, love your photos, especially that Ibis.
Hack, great shot of your finch. I have a boatload of them here.
My Western Bluebirds continue to come for the berries. This guy seemed to be watching over the others, probably looking for the mean mockingbird.
Margaret Is there a place where you could publish an article with pictures? Newspaper in the area? Perhaps some of their favorite trees, etc could be incorporated in the area.
Iris, there's been a concerted campaign running for many years, in the end to no avail. It's a long story, but in a nutshell, cramming people into medium density housing takes precedence over a few Black Cockatoos - and of course all the other flora and fauna that will be destroyed when the development goes ahead. The protest went as far as to Federal level, but in the end, the developer, in this case the University of Western Australia, has won.
Sorry about that.
Wonderful shots everyone!! Thanks for the latest thread Mrs_Ed! I,m behind on the daily so can't comment on all...but Duc the Eagle and Red-tailed Hawk shots are excellent!!! I want to move there! lol
Haven't had a lot of time to get too many shots. Worked 28 out of last 30 days. Here's what Ive collected over the last couple of weeks.
