Apropos of Nothing v.20
Thankful, we just got rain and not freezing rain in the latest storm. But, we'll have to watch the basement and make sure the sump pump works well.
I think I reported that DS and DDIL in Portland were pregnant. Sad to say they had a miscarriage. They are really bummed. She has had one previously before their daughter was born.
Jan, so sorry to hear about the miscarriage. I'm sure they are really upset about it, and I'm sure you are, too. At least they have a daughter, though.
We just got rain too, but the driveway by the steps is frozen and water running over the ice makes it very dangerous!
So sorry to hear of your lose Jan. Hugs to all of you.
Well, apropos of nothing, but one of my favorite campaigns for sanity, I just thought I would share this:
Campaign For Dark Skies Friday, 4 February 2011
The Campaign For Dark Skies would like us all, tonight, to look at the constellation of Orion. A little way above and below his famous belt of three jewels, four stars form a kind of 'frame' around the hunter. The question is, within that frame, how many stars can you see? If you're in a remote rural area you might count more than 30. If you're in the middle of a bright, busy city, you may see hardly any. Untold billions are wasted, each year, on badly-angled lights that blot out the stars instead of illuminating the roads.

Hear, hear!
Oh, I will try to remember this and go out tomorrow night. My 6 yr old grandson and I had been studying about constellations. Hopefully it will be clear enough. Lately it has been so cloudy with all the storms.
I am kind of numb today. Mom took a turn for the worse yesterday and died in her sleep last night. It was sometime between 1 am and 6:30 this morning. I was sleeping on the floor in her room and didn't hear her stir or anything. She quietly left this world and entered paradise. My life has turned upside down. In April it would have been 3 years since she was put into hospice care. Even though it has been expected it was quite sudden. I'm so thankful that she has no more pain.
A peaceful passage. Nevertheless, it always feels sudden. Bless your soul.
Condolences, Jan. All my best wishes to the three generations remaining. Light and peace to your mother!
She left the best kind of legacy a person can - all of you descendents. I bet that made her very proud.
Corey
Jan, safe passage to your Mom. Peace and acceptance to you.
So sorry to hear about your mother! They are very special people.
Im so sorry.I lost my Mom last March and I still get that numb feeling sometimes.I do believe time heals.Mine was blessed with 88yrs and she was ready to go.It was nice that she passed so well as we all wish for that. God Bless
Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and HUGS. They are definitely felt.
Jan, my deepest sympathy. Loss of a loved one is never easy and I know what you are going through. Hugs from across the country.
Jan, so sorry to hear about your loss. Thinking of you and sending peace.
Thank you. It was a good day today. Very quiet, but good.
My heart goes out to you on the lose of your mom. It's been almost two years since my mom passed. It is still very hard sometimes. Peace and rest to you and yours.
Sorry Jan. You at least know your mother saw you with her as she left this world. She I know valued that in your time with her. Be joyous with her new state without pain, gravity, fears, or any of the stuff we are burdened with every day of our life.
Oh, Sofer, I do praise God that she is in paradise now with Him. The' no more pain ' is a biggie.
Just taking it one day at a time. WW, has it already been two years? Time has flown by.
We may be doing a road trip out to the PNW via Texas to meet the newest grandbaby. I'll fly to TX late May, then Jeff will drive out after school is out in June then continue on to OR. et al. At least that is what he mentioned the other day. It sounded like a perfect plan.
Jan, I am so sorry for your loss. Take care of yourself.
Thank you. I am putting myself on the list. It's hard for me to do.
Hey, we are seeing some grass peeking out. I'd almost forgotten what it looked like.
Was looking forward to today as I had a "handy man" coming over to get some things done on my to-do list. OMG!! He told me on the phone that could hang new blinds, not one pair is up. I don't think he can read.He has the brackets on one set upside down. If I had strengh in my hands , I would do them myself, but since carpel tunnel surgery, not enough grip strenth. I also wanted him to pressure wash, does he bring his machine? No he did not. He weeded (kinda) a few beds and went to go get a yard of bark 2 miles from here. Gone almost 2 hours. He is now back with the bark and once that is put down...he's FIRED!
I will need to pull the bark back and finish the weeding myself. next chance I get. Just needed to vent, thanks for listening. Back to the drawing board to find a helper. Wish me luck! :(
Beahive, your story of woe is so familiar! Is it too much to ask for people to just do their job??? I had a similar experience today when I had to go to the county offices to get fingerprinted because I will be working with the health department. I had an appointment and I printed out the email confirmation. Of course they had no record of that, and when I showed the clerk the confirmation she was extremely rude, checked again, and found my appointment. The entire time she was talking to another clerk about her date last night and how the guy was a jerk. Maybe she should meet your bark guy!
Does anyone know what happened to our Brit friend Laurie?
Thats my kind of luck too. Two years ago some college kids wanted to bark my flowerbeds. The deal was they would supply the bark, 10 yards, and then they quoted me a price. Deal. Well what !@#$ job they did. The bark was thick and thin and right up to the trunk of my plants. Never got 10 yards. I do this myself but this bed is pain to wheel into so thought I would try them. Well, Never again!! I will take the bark up by the shovel full if I have to.
Very hard to find someone! Wish you luck
Thanks. He is still here. The garden supply center gave him a very generous yard so he is now covering more beds (un-weeded) with the stuff. Geeze... well i guess I can pull that back too , weed and recover.
Bye-bye-mister!
On Cape Cod decades ago, we used to call them "Cape Cod Contractors" and thought it was a local problem.
Nope!
Corey
Beahive, sorry about your bad experience, but don't give up. See if you can find someone with references, and then call the reference. It may take a couple stabs, but if you can find a true handyman (handyperson?), you will be happy.
Thanks bonehead. He is gone forever. I am just frustrated too that I can't do everything myself anymore.
Back injury and bad hands due to carpal tunnel .. i must start to rely on others to do the heavy stuff.
Young at heart but the body is telling me another story!! Must learn to deal with it and save more $$ to have this type of work done in the future. :(
Good luck finding someone who will work out ... and work.
>> Young at heart but the body is telling me another story!!
i know what you mean. Now I look at some guy and think: "He's really old!" Then I think some more, and realize he's younger than I am. I hardly ever look closely enoguh in amirror to see the gray, except at the barber's. I tried telling her it's HER fault, but that didn't work.
Oh, well! I can enjoy my delusion, and find things that I CAN still do.
Corey
Sorry I was slacking, gang. We're overdue for a new thread:

I'm coming in way late here, but I want to add my sympathy to you, Jan, about the passing of your mother.
