Whew.......the holiday season is winding down, and it's time for a slower pace. I hope everyone had a wonderful whatever-holiday-you-celebrate. By the way, where's Pix?
Apropos of Nothing v.20
and pony?
I'm around. Been sick for 6 weeks with a bad sinus infection. Just started another round of antibiotics.
I slept through most of the holiday stuff...
Oh, feel better soon.
Hope everyone has a wonderful New growing season!!!
and it lasts all year.

Pokin in to say belated merry whatever you celebrated and happy new year to all! Hope your winter celebration was everything that you dreamed and that 2011 is exceptional for everyone.
An early snow takes all life away from a body shop girl, but I've been thinking about you guys and hope that all of you have the best holiday season and new year ever. Will maybe have some time on the puter this weekend as we are emptying the shop today (even if we have to stay till midnight) and Julie and her boys are CLOSED until Monday!!!
Happy New Year!!!
Happy NY to all. Just got back from Hawaii. Lots of rain but got my tan and get to go home tomorrow for a week. Haven't seen my door step since nov 20th. My GD is struggling but fighting hard. Was given transfusion today to help with the chemo. Get to hug her tomorrow!
Happy New Year to everyone! I hope this year will be a healthy one for all, and special wishes for good health to Charlize.
I have been in bed with a really bad cold for days, but today I feel great! Managed to get the tree down and all the Christmas things sorted and organized and stowed away for another year. The nursery said to put the tree (living Xmas tree) in a sheltered area on the porch for a few weeks, and wrap a blanket around the pot to keep the roots from getting toooooo cold. Then gradually expose it to colder temps by removing the blanket only during the day. When the ground warms up a bit we will plant it in the front garden.
I'm not sure why, but I have really positive thoughts about this coming year. It's just a feeling. And I don't mean just for me or my family, but for the whole world. I'm feeling like there will be peace in many places where there is now strife. In the last few years it has been especially clear that the world is a smaller place than we ever realized, and that what happens many miles away affects us all.
Wishing a very good year for everyone. Amen to what you said Judi.
I have seen Flickers and Thrushes in my yard the last few days. Don't they usually come later?
Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. Can hardly believe that. Seems like only a few years.
I fed all of my birds with suet and seed. Plowed the driveway, cleaned the garage, and did laundry. Now to pay bills and get all of my last 2 months work done at home before I leave on Saturday. I soo enjoyed my chickens, dogs and cats. We had a pile in the bed last night and my Jack russell licked my hand every time I moved. Such good friends our pets!
This is my new baby GS Cademon.

Glad you are feeling better, Portland.
Happiest of anniversaries, WW!!!
What a handsome baby bundle there, Sofer! Sounds like a very crowded bed you had.
Beautiful grandson Sofer.
Anyone know where Katie is?
Cute bambino!
Hello Katie! She didn't report on my "who is in Daves garden". I think we have lost many this year.
Here's a link to a timely article as we approach spring planting time.
http://www.responsibletechnology.org/blog/664
Maybe she is with her parents. I don't think she would leave without saying something.
Didn't see Murmer post either??
And where is Laurie?
I've been wondering the same things.
Found out that grandybaby #9 is on the way. DIL has had a previous miscarriage, so we are holding our breath that she makes it through with no problems. That makes two grandybabies this year. I'll be in Texas late May early June and Portland, Oregon in the fall. Hope to see some of you then.
Jan, for sure let me know when you are in Portland!
Definitely!!!
I miss all we have lost. You are my lost friends.
Yeah, I'm thinking they just need to climb out of their winter burrows.
Bonehead - that is probably the case. I have been in a bit of a funk the last few weeks, but I decided to give in to it. Maybe nature planned it - to give humans some "down" time. So I'm not going to fight it! I'm calling it personal inertia.
Great article bonehead. Someday people will wake up to what chemicals are doing to our earth and its inhabitants. But I fear we have a long haul ahead of us before we get the greedy corporations to change their ways.
The Dr. said that my Parkinson's may have been caused by exposure to toxins.
Yes that is quite often the case. My DHs Parkinsons was also likely caused by pesticides and such. He was always a 'if a little is good, I'll put on a lot more' guy. Didn't matter if the wind was blowing it in his face.
It's so difficult when chemicals and toxins are all around us!
Wait till the bed-bug thing gets everywhere! We will all die of toxins.
That's probably already true.
Hmmmm.......I wonder of that's true with exposure to toxic people..
Hmmmm.......I wonder of that's true with exposure to toxic people..
I think that 2010 was a rough year for a lot of us, and without being able to enjoy dirt therapy, it is pretty easy to fall into an antisocial funk (I love the personal inertia title!). Spring will be here soon to draw even the "funkiest" of us back into the world!
Lynn, any idea what type of toxins? You haven't been one to use a lot of chemical in your garden... any clue from past history?
I went snowshoeing with my dog today, and it was really nice. Quiet, peaceful, and so beautiful. That cures a funk pretty quickly! Then I stopped in Hood River for coffee on the way home - I love that town, and their locally roasted Hood River coffee is the best.
Toxins - scary stuff. These days I think the best we can do is avoid using them in the garden, in cleaning products, in personal care items, and in our food. And of course avoid off-gassing building/construction items. We have to think carefully about each thing we bring into our homes or anywhere we spend time. Danger lurks everywhere! Lynn, I am so sorry that you have to experience the challenge of Parkinsons.
>> personal inertia
I call it "hibernating in my cave", but it's too easy to think of that as just a "cute black bear".
Sometimes it's more like waking up a grumpy grizzly who don't wanna wake up! "Antisocial" is the right word, but I do try to avoid outgassing toxic moods onto innocent passers-by!
However, try combining Winter Blues with dealing with a cell phone company! I reached the teeth-grinding stage while the phone call still had 5-10 minutes to go. Hard to be polite while they read from a script that has 20 ways to drive you crazy.
Corey
My personal inertia does not make me grumpy - in fact, I'm most often in a good mood and happy. It does, however, make me want to hibernate on the sofa with books, and not accomplish much other than dog walks.
When I have trouble with my cell phone company I go to the Apple store where I bought my iphone and they contact AT&T. Works great!
Judi, do you like your Iphone? I think I want one, but is it worth the extra money for the data package? We have Verizon, so at least we won't have to switch.
Judi,
We are thinking of going through Radio Shack, after we succeed in canceling the T-Mobile account where they promised a new phone with a memory card, and sent a refurbished phone with NO memory card.
Corey
I resisted getting an iphone but I finally succumbed. I love it. Yesterday, in just one day, I used several apps. The map for finding the coffee roasting company in Hood River, the gluten free list of restaurants, the gluten free list of groceries in the market, the internet for info on the snow park where I went snowshoeing, and checking email because my soon-to-be daughter-in-law is getting stressed (wedding 3/5). And a pdf of a sketch from young architect I have been mentoring. And the camera for snapping a pic of the sign for the snowpark sign because otherwise I would forget it and I want to return there soon. And road conditions on hwy 35 south from Hood River. And several texts from kids but I ignored them because snowshoeing should be peaceful...
I often use it to find addresses while out doing errands, etc. Or hotels while on the road. Or plane reservations. Or dog parks.
I find AT&T no different than Verizon, but now you can choose either one. To me, they are all alike.
AT&T doesn't have good coverage here, while Verizon does. And Consumer Reports lists Verizon as highest in overall customer satisfaction while AT&T is ranked lowest.
I'm tempted to get an iPhone once my current contract with Verizon runs out, but I already have an iPod Touch and an iPad, and I'm afraid that our monthly phone bill would skyrocket if I succumbed.
