That's Entertainment!! Part 5

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The celebrities that dont live in hollywood are the ones with most sustanence in their rolls,

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Does he have rolls????

He was horrible as Willy Wonka.

East Bridgewater, MA

Yeah, the "Willy Wonka" film was half-baked, but he's usually on target.

"Ed Wood" and the Tim Burton films established his "street cred"; as far as his "rolls":

Victor, he would be miscast as the Pillsbury Dough Boy....but scrumptious nonetheless !!!

;)

edited for wine, ehhhr, I mean spelling.

Didn't see him in Willy W., story doesn't appeal to me, neither does the gangster movie he was in, but I did see him in Alice in Wonderland & Sleepy Hollow.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

- Of course I have all the pirate movies. (lol!)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

He was really great in Finding Neverland.

Anyone see Sweeney Todd?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

didnt see Sweeny Todd but that sounds like him.
Isnt he in a movie w/ Angelina out now/?

East Bridgewater, MA

WaterCan2, does that mean you idolize pirates ?!?

Remember, "Big Brother" (the Orwellian kind) monitors every site, even garden sites, and I found out the hard way that "they" have no sense of humor !!!

Even though you may clearly be making a pirate joke, the bureaucrats feel obligated to report every single reference, so that they won't feel inefficient.

The result? Ten million+ USA citizens are listed as "enemies of The State" for using humor and irony in their posts.

In France, 220 years ago, it was called "The Reign of Terror."

Just another form of totalitarianism.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Naww, I just think they're cool! lol!

- Love those old ones like The Black Swan and Captain Blood, with actors like Tyrone Power & Errol Flynn! ☺

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

- Not the present day real ones like off the coast of Somalia etc... those guys are not cool.

East Bridgewater, MA

Error Flynn ("Captain Blood"; I think 1936, not sure) was a sex symbol for me when I was a teen in the 1970's, and had seen the film one Saturday afternoon...(does anyone remember UHF channels, like Channel 38 or Channel 56 in Boston?).

Anyway, my father would look askance at me when I told him I liked Errol Flynn as a matinee idol.

I only found out DECADES later why there was a sullied element to his name...we didn't have the internet back then for info, I'm sorry to say.

East Bridgewater, MA

Yeah, WaterCan2, while I was typing, you mentioned the current pirates that are making like miserable off the coast of Africa, in the Caribbean, etc.

Due to international maritime laws, these punks have been able to victimize innocent folks...jus' blow these creeps out of the water!

A documentary (Discovery Channel?) explained how commercial and other watercraft can't have the necessary armaments on board for protection.

Time for some new laws.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Yeah, but that's the real stuff though, that's not entertainment that's politics! lol!

East Bridgewater, MA

Ahhh, that means I can fantasize about Depp and Flynn, and leave the ugliness of the real world for others to fix.

Now I only need a plate of home-baked chocolate chip cookies, a good film rental and I'm good to go !!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Jo - new season of American Pickers starts tonight.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, Victor, I loved Depp in Willy Wonka! Great movie, that.

Have not seen Sweeny Todd, Victor, but it's on my 'list'.

BA, I remember those UHF channels. I didn't know there was a sullied element to Errol Flynn's name. New one on me. My sister made yummy chocolate chip cookies tonight. Come on over! LOL!

Love the pirate movies, but real life pirates, modern and historical, were despicable men who thought nothing of killing others for profit. Plain and simple.

I need to watch an episode of Dexter tonight before going to sleep. Will have some chocolate chip cookies, too.

Maybe not so plain & simple, (few things are..).
In the 1500's Elizabeth I made privateers of her best sailors, including Sir John Hawkins, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Sir Francis Drake. Giving them permission to attack ships and disrupt trade, (especially Spain), even though no war was in effect. She also formed the East India Trading Co. soon afterwards..

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I saw Sweeney and liked it, but didn't love it.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

We can put the band of Mexicans that murdered the guy on his jet ski privateers.
Its not romantic at all.
Or funny to be terrorized.
Jack Sparrow and special effects do the real thin an injustice.

Jet ski incident reeks of drug deal gone bad.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The last version I watched was. That was a drug trafficing highway and the skiers were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
There isnt anything about Mexico that would lure me back in the last 10 years.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I got sick from the water the last time I went there on vacation. Twenty four hours of non-stop nausea.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I was there in 1972. It has some beautiful landscape and vacation spots but the press in the past few years doesnt over ride the danger there.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Guy on Pawn Stars last night had a gold double eagle and got $34,000 in cash for it!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I'll catch it on Sunday. I love that show.
TLC has a new show like American Pickers. Storage Wars. You have to be born with an instinct for gambling and know a lot about a lot of things.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What I don't like about these shows is that they don't follow up. They claim that they can sell something for X dollars, giving them Y profit. But it's just an estimate, a hope. I want to know what they actually sell it for and how long it took to sell.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Pawn Stars lets you know what the thinking is behind any unusual piece. Sometimes Rick just doesnt want a thing because he knows it will be in inventory forever.
Last Storage Wars I saw. Someone paid 2500 dollars for a locker full of resturant equipment. He estimated the retail at $17,000. Minus the packing and hauling costs to his warehouse.
I believe he already had a buyer between the time he bought the locker and a few days to get the stuff to his warehouse. The sucessful guys in the business are always out networking and know whats hot and whats not.

Vintage Christmas cartoons:

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Great cartoon, never saw that one...and I thought I've seen them all.

Anyone watch Sing Off???

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I remember that cartoon!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

That was 4 years before I was born. My first cartoon or movie was Snow White, first movie was The Wizard of Oz

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm going to download a few of those old ones and burn them to disk if I can.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love the cartoon!!!... I dvr-ed sing off... didn't get that far yet... still working on Sundays stuff

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I just copied and spliced the 3 mickey mouse 'Christmas carol' parts and burned it to a RW DVD. Came out great when played back on TV, going to erase the test disk and fill it up with oldies and make menus for them!
- Then burn it all to a standard DVD -R

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I am in AWwww of your disc skills

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

It's easy ge, just like moving files from one directory to another. ☺

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

WC, looks like I will have to do some research into the history of pirates.

Never saw that cartoon. Cute.

Can you put those cartoons on CD's and have them play, or would that not work? I need a DVD drive for my computer. One thing I don't have.

I have a sister who's been to Mexico numerous times, mostly in Baja and further down the western coast. She loved it. JoAnne, I would be afraid to go there now, too, with all I've heard that's been going on there.

Victor, I'm with you, I would like to know what the outcome was, how much they actually got for the stuff that was pawned to them.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

We went to Ixtapa in 1998, which was great, and Acapulco in 2007, which was ok, but a little scary because there were guards with guns and bullet straps on the streets. That was weird to see.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

That is kinda scary, Deb. Good thing nothing went wrong while you were there.

Karen

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

That's ok Karen, I took a college course on the history of the Caribbean so I got an Idea of how some were used as the clandestine 'navy seals' of days long ago by Great Britain and other countries.
- Far different from the pirates of today, which I agree 100% are despicable.

- I don't think they can be used with CD's Karen, never tried it, but CD's are not formatted for video files that I know of. A DVD drive is easy to install and cost about $20-25 from many places like NewEgg. They're plug and play and your system should detect the new hardware and install the drivers within seconds!

- Most of the places I've visited in S. America have heavily armed business buildings, airports & tourist hot spots like Sao Paulo, Santiago Chile, Mexico City, Cancun, Acapulco.. I even saw a manned & ready anti aircraft gun in Belize next to where the taxi stand was at the airport, heavy firepower is common in those high population areas.
