PLEASE NOTE!!! :
All participant's swap seeds were sent out to each of you today, November 27th! All but Dany's & Elsa's bubble envies were sent delivery confirmation. If you would like your delivery confirmation number, please dmail me! And please let me know when you get yours!
THIS SEED SWAP IS CLOSED!!!! If others missed it, we may get enough interest to do a second seed swap. So if you are interested in being part of a second seed swap, post at the end of this thread.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS SWAP IS FOR THE FIRST 10 PARTICIPANTS. IF WE GET MORE THAN 10, I WILL ATTEMPT TO START ANOTHER SWAP SIMILAR TO THE FIRST ONE. (THAT STRICTLY DEPENDS ON GETTING ENOUGH PARTICIPANTS TO ACTUALLY DO A SECOND SEED SWAP, THOUGH.)
Currently there are 10 people signed up for this swap:
1) Becky - Already had packed up and waiting! / Received my swap seeds! :-)
2) Elsa - (Received seeds 11/8) -
3) Tony - (Received seeds 11/26)
4) Debra - (Received seeds 11/11) Received swap seeds!
5) Ronnie - (Received seeds 11/6) Received swap seeds!
6) Helena - (Received seeds 11/1) Received swap seeds!
7) Robbie - (Received seeds 11/8) Received swap seeds!
8) Nicole - (Received seeds 11/15) Received swap seeds!
9) Dany - (Received seeds 11/22)
10) Karen (bluespiral) - (Received seeds 11/15) Received swap seeds!
Karen (gardener2005) has declined joining the swap... but once again donated seeds. She sent in mixed seed baggies for participants in October. Received donated seeds from Emma on 11/1.
Not sure how many would be interested in this swap since we got sooooo many seeds last year, but this one would require a LOT less seeds. Here is my idea:
First I would like it to be only I. nils. We got a lot of I. purpurea seeds last year, so I. nil seeds would be nice to trade this year. I would like to have each person put together an I. nil "mixed" baggie of seeds for each participant. It could be as few as 5 seeds. But the catch is this ... each seed has to be a different cultivar. 1 seed of each cultivar with a minimum of 5 seeds per baggie. So it could contain an example like this:
1 seed each of Rose Silk, Blue Jishi, Pink Kikyo, Gray Fog, and Shidare. So each person would get a baggie from me of 1 seed of each of those cultivars. And then another person could send a different mix of I. nil seeds.
You might think that only one seed of each cultivar would not be very many, but let me tell you that one seed of any cultivar should grow you a nice size vine, lots of blooms, and if you start them early enough ... lots of seeds! Most all the cultivars I grew this year in each of the 5 gallon buckets were 1 seed, 1 vine per bucket. They got quite large and most produced seeds, too!
If we have 10 participants, that would be 10 seeds of each of five different cultivars for a total of 50 seeds that you would have to provide ... 10 of each cultivar like I listed above as an example. You won't be making up a baggie of mixed seeds for yourself, only for the other 10 folks in the swap! If you are a newbie, you'd have to buy enough packets of seeds to share 1 seed of each of five cultivars. Each person would make up 10 baggies of a minimum of 5 different seeds per baggie to be included in the swap. If there are less participants, then the number of seeds would be also less. You would make up 10 baggies for the swap of 5 different seeds each. Does that make sense?
And the cool thing ... if we have 10 participants, that would mean everyone would get at LEAST 50 different seeds, but possibly more if some folks share more than 5 seeds per baggie! These seeds could be stable cultivars or wild card crosses!

Group Seed Swap 2010
If you are interested in joining this swap, post here on this thread. Let's see if there are enough folks interested to do a seed swap this year.
Hi Becky,
Does all the packets have to have the same selection of seeds, or can it be different?
Elsa
I'm interested, I like the idea about how many seeds you can get from one plant. I planted mine in the ground and yield 1000's of seeds from a single plant. Incredible!

I am in, of course! I have blue jishi x tenten ( second grow out from Beckys seed )
TenTen, ( I'd by a knowledgeble dgr)
Mauve Splash, rose splash, re big unknown red/pink whitefrost edge one, the large purple with star from helena, miko no mai, akatsu no mai, unknown blue ( from Joseph) those are my offereings.
I'm in tentatively, I have to check to see what I have available to make sure I have enough for 15 members.
I'm in, have some to share too.
Elsa - What I was thinking is that each packet be the same, but no list of ID for each packet. Participants can just keep track of who sent you the seeds/vines when you grow them. When they bloom, then you can try to ID them. It will be a surprise as each person grows them!
This would be more unexpected and perhaps more fun to see what we each get in blooms from all these mixed seeds!
Gardener2005 (Karen) donated 10 mixed I. nil seed packets to this swap again this year, too! Thanks, Karen! She has been very kind and generous to donate seeds this year and last year!
I don't know if Emma will participate or donate mixed seeds for this swap? I had mentioned it to her on one of her threads and she replied that she would see. She grew a lot of vines this year, so we'll see if she will donate some for this swap.
Dany donated last year. Perhaps he will donate again this year?
I would say we keep this swap to 10. If we get over 10, then we'll start a new list and see if we can get enough to do another 10 participant for second mixed seed swap. Last year I think we had over 15 people who wanted to participate.
I will close this swap on October 31st. We'll see how many want to participate this year. If there are less than 10, that is okay, too.

Becky, I've got to hand it to you, you can really make some great swaps happen. Everyone will get some nice seeds from all of you.. Have fun ladies.
A.
This is going to be such fun!
A. hows come you aren't on the list? I would love for you to grow out some seeeds from me.
Maybe some day I'll join the swaps, I got burn't out by them, but, when I'm ready, I'll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, you have a good time there.
A.
Antoinette didn't grow many MGs this year except for a few I. nil and I. purpurea volunteers, so I was not expecting her to participate. I did however dmail Emma and Dany to see if they would like to participate or donate seeds since both of them grew MG crops this year and most likely collected a lot of seeds.
Dany generously donated last year. I haven't seen Emma post in quite some time, so don't know if she will even check her dmail. Is she a seasonal forum participant? Seems she didn't post much Fall through the Winter last year. If anyone knows another way to contact her, please let her know we are doing the seed swap.

I'm in too if I participate in the first group.
Got you added in, Dany!
I'm in, if I'm not to late. This year was a difficult year in and out of the garden, but I have hopes for a better year next year - I always enjoy growing vines, especially when they came from someone special, and there have been many folks represented like that in my garden in bygone years :)
karen
ps - sorry - just realized you were still waiting to see if Emma would participate - if she does, then I'll bow out

The Seed Swap is closed. Karen (gardener2005) didn't want to participate, but instead donate seeds.
If there are more interested, please post on this thread your interest. If we have enough people, I'll do a second seed swap!

I am closing the swap at 10 participants. The deadline for participants to send their seeds to me is November 30, 2010. You will need to make up 10 baggies each with a minimum of 5 different "mixed" Ipomoea nil seeds (one for each participant). You can add more than 5 different cultivars, but there must be at least 5 seeds per baggie!
Do NOT label the bags as to what cultivar of seeds you have added to each bag. Just mark the baggies as "Mixed Ipomoea nil" "Seed Swap 2010" and your screen name. Once I receive everyone's seeds, I will divide them out and send the swap seeds out to everyone.
I am going to estimate that there will be a $1.50 postage charge plus confirmation delivery for those here in the USA. (Confirmation delivery is $.80, I believe.) I will confirm the amount everyone needs to send me in a couple of days. For those living outside of the USA, you will have to pay me using paypal. I will let you know the cost by dmail. I can not guarantee delivery to those outside the USA since confirmation delivery is not an option, so there is a slight risk for those folks. Everyone will receive 11 baggies of seeds including a baggie of gardener2005's donated seeds. You will need to send a 4 inch x 7 inch pre-addressed bubble envelope so I can send the seeds to you.
Send me:
10 baggies labeled "mixed I. nil" seeds with your screen name on each baggie
1 - 4" x 7" bubble envie pre-addressed with your full mailing address on it
$2.30 for postage and delivery confirmation (tentative cost for those in the USA, others will have to dmail me for cost via paypal) I'll confirm this cost by the end of this week.
Send everything to me so that I receive it by November 30th. Don't wait until the last minute! Try to mail your swap seeds out to me by the middle of November, please.
Got ya..
:-)
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask them.
I did get a dmail asking about just sending 9 baggies of seeds instead of 10 because they didn't think they needed to make one for themselves. It is easier for me to have 10 baggies of mixed seeds from everyone. That way I don't have to figure out who gets what from each batch of seed packets. You can use your own seed baggie for a future trade or to grow-out yourself sometime in the future. (You never know when you might get an interesting cross!) I must have 10 baggies from each person. I will divy the baggies out equally to each participant.
Becky,
My seeds are ready to be mailed. I assume your address is still the same?
Elsa
Yes, Elsa ... same address. If anyone needs my address, dmail me. Thanks!
Just a suggestion, for those of you in the USA, you might want to send your seeds Delivery Confirmation just to make sure I get them. It's only 80 cents.
We're going to go with the $2.30 postage and delivery confirmation, so that will be the price for everyone here in the USA. I won't know postage for Dany or Elsa until I get all the seeds in and make your bubble envies up & take it down to the USPS to have them weigh it. I'll let ya know then and you can both paypal me the postage + paypal charges. (Unless you have a better idea!)
I was planning on putting in a few extra seeds and won't know until I get to the post office what my envie will weigh, exactly. In the past, it seems to have worked well for everyone to send an amount of money for return postage equal to what it cost to send the envie in the first place.
Just offering this for consideration
Karen - That would be fine if we know for sure how much the envelope with all the different seed packets was going to weigh to send back to you. I think $1.50 postage plus delivery confirmation (80 cents) should do it. For a total of $2.30!!! I don't think it will be less than that and if it is more to mail in the USA, then I will eat the difference. Outside the USA is another story. Postage is usually more expensive to mail to other countries. I will have to let those two participants know the cost after I get all the seeds and take the bubble envies to the post office to weigh .... and then let Elsa and Dany know what it will cost.

gotcha (edited to delete inscrutable humor)

Karen - You are sending 10 mixed seed baggies and will be getting back at least 11 baggies. So the bubble envie will be a little bit heavier than what you are sending to me. I think $2.30 is a pretty good estimation for mailing costs. I send bubble envies with seeds all the time and that seems to be about right. If it is less, it won't be by much. And if it is more, again it won't be by much!
gocha the first time
Hi All –
. . . Sorry, I didn’t make the seed swap in time - since I have been in Houston for a few days . . .
SO . . . I will be donating 300-Seeds to the Swap @ 30-Seeds to each person.
Becky, Please D-Mail me your address - the seeds are packed up and ready to mail to you.
Hope you all enjoy . . .
Emma
You are very welcome, Dany
Thanks for sharing some of your seeds with everyone in the swap. I am sure they will appreciate it.
I know I will! Thanks Emma!
Emma,
Thank you so much for the seeds you donated. Much appreciated...
Elsa
Thanks everyone -
I only hope you all enjoy growing these beauties as much as I have
Thanks to everyone for this fun surprise seed swap.
Becky, my seeds are on their way to you with confirmation!!!
Thanks, Helena!
Delivery Confirmation should be a must everyone! If you are outside of the USA, I hope they get to me okay and then back again to you. There is no guarantee of seeds to anyone outside of the USA. Elsa and Dany - are you sure you want to be in the seed swap? It's a risk for you two.
