Nice. It's good to be close to family, and that's why I moved back here from Arizona, though I liked living in AZ better. Someday I'll go back, either there or to Texas near my sister.

Karen

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Id like to go to New Orleans........LOL

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I have a sister who went there, and she loved it. I have a friend who just got back from a business trip there, and she loved it, too. That's on my list of places to see.

I got pics in my gardens today. Will post shortly.

Some nice garden blooms jen and robin, a lot of nice color. Pretty monkshood granite, I always kill mine for some reason. Pretty fall pics too, such nice scenery in your neighborhood James. Looking forward to your pics Karen.

James that is a very nice additional bloom you have. It must like it's place in your garden to give you so much to enjoy.

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

I can see why, it's beautiful!

Lovely shade of pink.

Thomaston, CT

Great shade of pink!

ngam, considering the beautiful pictures you've posted all summer, I'd say killing monkshood is a pretty minor problem! It is funny how some things just don't grow for some people. I've tried delphiniums three times, for example, and they always fail to return the following year.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Nice, James. I have 5 brugmansias now, 2 pink, 2 white (one might be a double) and I think a yellow. I have one that I got as a rooted cutting last fall, but it's not blooming size yet. The just this past weekend 2 friends of mine gave me 4 large potted brugs that they just didn't have room for anymore. What could I say? I couldn't pass that up, so I graciously accepted them. Two are in my cellar for the winter, and two are in my enclosed porch. I think the porch would have been too crowded with all of them in there.

granitegneiss, I don't have great luck with Delphiniums either, if they do survive...it's short lived. Maybe it has to do with how harsh or how mild the winter conditions are here??

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Delphiniums don't return for me either.

I found this little guy the other morning. He's got a few more buds that might make it before frost.

Lovely, lucky you!!

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

The pictures are beautiful. Makes me sad to see them fading for winter tho.

One quick question, James how come you have your camera set for 2 weeks later than it is?

Is there a reason I am missing, that might help me in my gardening?

Thanks,

I have a bloom stalk on Baby Blessed iris, hopefully will see it bloom again

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Nice to see a clematis blooming now, Venu.

I've noticed rhodies blooming now and earlier this month, too, especially the pjm types. Does that mean those won't bloom in the spring cause they've used their blooms now? They don't have time to make new blooms before spring arrives, and the spring blooms are from buds formed the previous year.

i have good luck w/delph's - i think they need really fertile soil

Thomaston, CT

You're right, Bill. You should fertilize them several times during growing season....I'm too lazy. Weeze, nice to see a clem blooming now. My dianthus is reblooming.

This year more than most I have noticed that the perennials seemed to get a second growth spurt after the drought ended late summer/early fall. The weather has been so crazy. A few buds on spring flowering shrubs may open but the majority of them will hopefully wait for their time to shine.
Delphs don't usually last for many, many years, but I have had the best luck with the strain from Australia that seem to take hot temps and humidity better throughout the season. Also as with lavender and many hyssop they like a little lime and very good drainage.
Thanks for the compliment granite. There are a few things that for one reason or another just do not like my garden. Is it soil, weather or placement? Don't know, could be lazy gardener syndrome kicking in at the wrong time. That is what makes gardening so interesting, nothing is the same in two gardens. The challenge and rewards is what keeps me at it all these years.

Since we seemed to be in between rain showers, I though I would go out and get a few last garden pics. So here ya go, the back gardens.

I love the balloon flower at this time of year Pat.
I always notice a rejuvination for annuals after the summer heat. Especialy the impatiens.

A scene if you squint a lot and imagine a lot maybe could be spring not fall. This honeysuckle has bloomed all season and only a hard frost will end it for this season, 'John Clayton'.

and finally; Dh would not forgive me if I did not include all his hard work in the last of the season pics.
I agree JoAnn, just love those balloons in three of the seasons. Hard to beat it for color.
