Excellent photos, duc. Sharp, as always ...... I really like the California Quail. We have the Northern Bobwhite (Quail) but I seldom see them anymore and they are in grave danger here in Maryland. They prefer grassland but that has been replaced by houses and stores. It's a sad commentary.
Great way to start, duc. That GOFIN could be a portrait.
Hack
Wonderful variety there Ducbucln, love the quail & the gull especially, (nice to see the different species 3000 miles from here!) - great shots!
All wonderful shots Hack, love the Wren & the Titmouse, Titmice are so cute!!

nanny, I don't know if you're right or wrong about the Field Sparrow ID, but I liked the shot.
Hack
Great start to the new thread Duc! Wonderful shot of the California Quail pair!
Nice close-ups Hack! Thanks for the kind words!
nanny, nice shots!...on your last bird...that is a very apparent eye-ring on your bird...I agree Field Sparrow.
Hack, more nice shots! I can tell the difference between our 2 Chickadee's...the Black-capped..have more white on the edges of their wings compared to your Carolina's.
Burd, I really can't see a difference between your Black-capped and my Carolina Chickadee. Is it all about where they live?
Hack
Hack...yes range is a big factor...but I,m not that far from being able to see the Carolina...so maybe in the future a stray may come along or I may just take a 90 min. drive south to find some. But if you look at the wings the Black-capped have a white wash on the sides of the wings...where the Carolina is more of a plain gray. My field guide notes this also.
Beautiful start duc. I love them all but those flicker shots are my favorites.
Hack, I've been trying the close-ups too!
This was not a close-up attempt. I zoomed through the foliage and hoped that this Brown Thrasher would hop into my "window of opportunity." Only his head hopped in.
Shoot might have just missed a new bird. Why was I sitting here at the window without my camera?! Dang it. Have to go see if I can find it in the bird book.
Linth, sorry about the loss of your grasslands being replaced. It's sad to hear that wildlife loses when buildings go up.
Hack, your birds are cute. I think the HOSP has such beautiful colors in their feathers and that titmouse sure is pretty. The chickadees must be fun to photograph with their pretty coloring.
Nanny, love those robins in the bath and that little sparrow is a sweetie.
Burd, love your little chickadee too.
Elphaba, wonderful job with your thrasher.
I was happy to see we still had at least one Bald Eagle here. It was flying low over the lake and too far away for a photo, but at least I got to see it. I think this is a juvie Western Tanager that was in the bath with the goldfinches. It just looked at me and kept bathing as I took my photos.
Wow, duc, it's like you're reading my mind sometimes.
I definitely just missed a new bird to my yard. I feel just sick about it. Moments before I said to myself 'why are you sitting in front of this window without your camera?' Did I go and get my camera -- nooo. Darn it. It was in perfect photo position too. It took a bath and flew up into the foliage where I just couldn't get the shot.
Here's why you're reading my mind. I went through all the pics in my bird book and it looked the most like a white-crowned sparrow. It was a big bird though and it seemed like the black stripes were thicker and went further down the head.
It took a long bath and flew way off. If it comes back, it won't be for a while. Dang it!
Here's a boring old Mockingbird fluffing after bath.
Hack, I have several female Hosp that are very light or odd colored here. Chipping Sparrows are so cute and I hate it when they leave in the fall. But one of my favorites to watch for in the spring!
Elphaba, your Nashville shot is really good, and the Thrasher shot shot is framed very nicely! I think it turmed out much better that way then if the whole bird was in the shot.
I took a little photography workshop yestersay at a local Nature Park. Bottom line was compostion of the photo trumps everything else, color, lighting etc.
Now if I can just apply what they tried to teach us! lol
Myrtle Warbler with fall color behind .....
