He finally landed back in the top of the tree with the other two and they all flapped their wings and flew off over the lake. Hmmmm, I wonder if he was in training to build a nest?

We've just begun to see a large flock of Starlings flying around our house every day but they never stop at any of the feeders. I've seen a couple land in the apple trees next door, but never the whole group.

Quote from ducbucln :
the younger one picked a couple of pine needles off the top.

What a disgraceful vandal! Prosecute it!!

;-)

No pics to share right now, they're still on the card. But, lest I get behind, I'd like to make a few comments.

burn_2007, your pic of Mrs. Hairy is crystal clear - great job.

nanny_56, nice crow shots. You reminded me - I need to get some cat food.

ducbucln - your 2nd shot of the crow flying with the pine needles is terrific.

Now, I'm gonna see what's on my card.

Nanny, do your Magnolia Warblers stay for the winter or are they passing through to gentler climes?

Burn lovely photo of the Hairy and of course, your beautiful Bleu Jay.

I love your crow shots, duc. As always, razor sharp. The last one, with it flying towards you, is fantastic!

I was sitting waiting for the changing of the guard at the Osprey nest yesterday afternoon and this little Striated Pardalote landed in a tree beside me. It was just on the minimum focussing distance for this lens. Why can't birds be more co-operative?

MargaretK - I LOVE the colors of that little Striated Pardalote. Your lens nailed it.

After "doing" my card I have a few to share.

Not my best pic, but it is a Brown-headed Nuthatch.

I haven't seen a Goldfinch in a little while. I had a male and a female, but only the female cooperated.

I hear them often, screeching at something. This Blue Jay visited a feeder. Usually I see them on the ground.

And my last one for now.

I think this is a female House Finch. If not, someone let me know.

Thanks

Margaret ...what a pretty bird!! We are too cold for the Magnolia Warblers here in winter. They just pass thru during spring & fall migrations.

Hack....I am gonna steal that little Brown-headed Nuthatch!

Duc, I feed dry cat food. It is relatively cheap...especially compared to peanuts!

Carolina Chickadee from today...wasn't much out this morning!

Wow. I've been out of commission for a couple of days and look at you all go!

Margaret, love that little Striated Pardalote. The little red spot on the wing is a little treasure!

Duc, can't believe how you caught those starlings in flight. This is the time of the year when I really see them flocking a good amount of the time.

Nanny. glad your crows are back. don't scare them with that dish!

So I'm thinking this is an Eastern Phoebe? if not, chime in!

A male Hairy? I was quite surprised.

Really nice shots everyone!!
Mrs_Ed...Eastern Wood Pewee...has wingbars...E. Phobes lack the strong wingbars, you other visitor is a Downy...spotting on the outer white tail feather's...Hairy's lack the spotting.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

ah. well thanks burd. That long bill threw me. And the Pewee's tail seemed shorter than the last one I had.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Mrs. Ed, Your bird also has a weak eye ring which suggest a Eastern Wood Pewee. Eastern Phoebes have no eye ring.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

"I think this is a female House Finch. If not, someone let me know" – yep, sure is.

"So I'm thinking this is an Eastern Phoebe? if not, chime in!" – one of the Empidonax flycatchers. Pass on which ;-) Too small for a Pewee.

ahhhhh....one of those mysterious Empidonax flycatchers! I should have known!! :)

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Margaret, you still too critical on your photos-that Striated Pardalote is beautiful!! They sure have a small bill compared to other birds their size, but I love their colors.

Hack, that photo with the jay trying to reach the seeds is adorable.

Nanny, thanks, I'll try the dry cat food. You're right about the price difference. Love your little chickadee.

Mrs. Ed, that flycatcher is a beauty. Great job with your wp too.

My Lesser Goldfinches love their morning drinks and baths.

He's a handsome devil Nanny. What plant is he enjoying? Sure looks pretty with the red feathers and green leaves.

I was surprised when this Osprey flew low over the house this morning, in fact so surprised I only got one shot.

nanny_56 - Ha, nanny the nuthatch bandit. lol. Seeing your Carolina Chickadee, made me realize that I haven't seen a CC in a couple of weeks. AND your two Cards are great. I have one I'll post later, mine has a mouthful, too.

Mrs_Ed - I don't know about your bird But all the same, those are some nice captures.

ducbucln - your new bird, the Yellow Warbler, is fantastic. Great pic. I assume it is a Lifer, so congrats. AND that pair of Nuttall's Woodpeckers are beautiful. They'd be Lifers for me.

gardenpom - just love the look of those White-winged and Collared Doves. AND that's pretty pic of the Br Thrasher. I saw one here yesterday.

It has rained hard here for most of the day. I had a lot of activity, even in the down poor. I told nanny that I had a male Card with a mouth full and here he is. I reckon the larvae had to come up or drown and the Card found it. poor larvae
