Debra, what a great idea to use the netting.

That other vine is Lobata, also called spanish flag. They are blooming everywhere, but I bet they don't have time to set seeds. I used the netting cuz I ran out of organza bags. I have huge rolls of netting so thought it would work as well. so far so good.

The black mesh I tacked-up to the 80' section of 6' privacy fence worked great. The vines climbed up the 4' of mesh all on-their-own, and then jumped-over the top. The neighbor lady on the other side had fun watching the hummers visit. I collected seed and terminated the vines, so I can plant something better next year.

used the same 1" mesh to wrap our tall sycamore tree trunk. The vines went-up the 12' of mesh and tried to keep-on climbing higher-up.

Sharp Pod MG. These are invasive and come-up from last year's roots. I'm careful to terminate the vines before the seeds get ripe.

Sharp Pod blooms. Yes, they are weeds, but beautiful weeds.

I love the Spanish Flag. I did not grow those this year but they produce tons of seeds one year and I gave them all away thinking I would have some from the last batch. Then we had early frost and the remaining seeds were not ripe so I didn't have any seeds. I've been advice that I can cut them and put them in water for the seeds to mature should there be early frost in the future.

I've been told there is a white version of the Spanish Flag. Becky, didn't you grow them?

Nice plants, MJ and John!

Nicole - There are at least two different strains of Mina Lobata:

Mina lobata "Citronella": http://summerhillseeds.com/mina-citronella-p-110.html

Mina lobata "Spanish Flag" : http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1317/

I grew both last year, but got hardly any seeds from them. I need to buy some more seeds! The Citronella is harder to find for sale. I, personally, like the Spanish Flag bloom colors more!

I bought the citronella, the jungle queen and the exotic love from summerhill seeds. They are all blooming. I am having a hard time telling one from the other. I love your sharp pod mg, John.

Debra, if you want to differentiate for seeds collection, you can use the straw the mark the Citronella flowers, that way you know which is which when you collect seeds.

Becky, I thought I remembered you saying that you grew them. :)

I've only grown the Spanish Flag and it COVERED my mailbox 2 years ago. My poor mailman got attacked by the Spanish Flag every day!
