Thanks Prita!
Broms are great! Show us more.
Tropical Garden #83
James that is a pretty bloom! Rita, those glorys are beautiful, but please take it from me and pinch off those smaller pink ones. Trust me on this .. I am glad the shibouri and the akatsu are there ;) Love your pink Iochroma, didn't even know there was one. I always learn so much here. I have three cuttings rooting successfully so far off the Purple Queen.
Metro: this one here.. Dichorisandra, I could really learn to love. I guess I need to know what a BROM is, I think I might have one or two somewhere here? Is a Sanseveria a Brom?
A nice DGr sent me these today.. I was thrilled to get 3 alocasias and two brugs and some service berry cuttings and a viburnum cutting and a new weigelia cutting. Now that it is dark in the am and dark in an hour after I get home, I have told the family I am MIA on Saturdays and Sundays. I have alot of work to get done out there..
Debra, thanks so much, please let me know on the postage for the Salvia's.
Prita I have few Brome's too, I leave them out here year round, so far they have all come back.
My Iochroma haven't bloomed for me either, one in ground one in a pot...giving them the evil eye like the Brug's....
Rachel what do you do with all your's in winter?
We have been so dry and windy here, not our usual weather at all, my horse pastures are usually super green and we're still mowing like crazy this time of year. Not good going into fall/winter.
Here's one of my Bromelaids from when I first got it.....terrible picture......gotta go out and see what it's doing now, it's under the ginger that hasn't bloomed either.
Thank goodness for my Salvia's and Passi's they are happy !
pensacolagarden, I agree, that is a very nice hibiscus. Remember to look for seeds.
Joeswife, I made an error, the plant is a pink cestrum not a lochroma and it came from you.
Those are very nice plants, I can see a alocasia Stingray. DG's are the best!!
The Sanseveria is not a Bromeliad. I was hoping that Metrosideros would answer that question, he is qualified.

mjsponies, you are so lucky, getting to leave your Bromeliads out for the winter. I have mine in hanging baskets and pots and have to keep them protected.
I was told that the matchstick bromeliad would come back in my zone, which I found to be false, It was fortunate that I saved a start in the GH.
I am giving my gingers the evil-eye, most of the buds either fall off or turn brown and dry. Maybe next year will be my time for profuse ginger blooms.
Prita,
I "inherited" most of these Brom's. I do have one that I wired to a slab of wood, but the rest are in the ground or in pots. I just stuff them down under something and cover them with a bunch of leaves or I buy a few bales of stray and bust them open and throw it over stuff. I just have too much to bring everything in. Course if this weather keeps up, I might not ! I just can't get to everything to water it, it's too spread out.
Dry weather has got the Candle Stick Cassia setting seeds already.
Rita, I love your hanging basket combination and you and Dave both showed some very pretty Bromeliads.
Debra, that is a very nice color on your Cajun Hibiscus and I had to look up your goji berry plant. It looks and sounds like a nice plant.
No "new" tropical plant to show but my Philodendron gloriosum has filled out alot more since the last time I showed it.
mjs, I hope your eye and knee are getting better and let's just say I have a house full of "green" in the Winter months. When the plants get too big for mine I take them to the house where my parents lived as it is a big house.
Speaking of pasture, do you have to feed hay in the Winter months in your part of Fl.? I am waiting on the guy to come make the last cut off of mine this year.
Cute and sweet toad lily is starting to bloom.
Hi All!
mjsponies, Almost everyone I talk to about our upcoming winter is predicting that we are in for another doozie of a winter, but they mostly get their information from watching the animals and the amount of acorns the trees are producing. I hope that they are wrong. btw, I love that big Live Oak in the background, with all the spanish moss growing on it.
I am saving seeds from the candlestick plant as well, the ones from seeds grew just as fast as the plants I saved in the GH.
There is a Bromeliad bloom in with the Brug. Maya.
RachelLF, thanks, I did have a better picture of that basket, but insted of deleting it, I attached it to my comments and was too lazy to do it over.
I do love that Philo Gloriosum, it is a awesome plant. I have Philo. Mamei that is just now showng signs of recovery. The toad lily is very pretty but I have no luck growing them.
Anthurium clavigerum
MJ,
If you have some extra cassia seed, I would like some. I had one and it came back last year, but I guess the cold winter wiped it out this year. Since we are moving, I will have room for everything. LOL
Rachel,
LOL, Eye and Knee are doing better, the Eye forced me to stay inside which gave the Knee a break. I've been getting my share of "padded room" jokes here too lately from the "men" around here...I will get them back, there's 15 yds of new mulch sitting out there ! Yes we do have to feed hay in winter....unfortunately..
Prita,
Uh Oh....we have more acorns than I can remember having in a long time. Lots of Live Oaks, Sand Live Oaks ( smaller than regular Live Oaks) Red Maple, and towards the back of the property, stands of Cypress, Loblolly Bay's, and more. We are bordered on two sides by 3500 acres of St. John's Wildlife Management.
I found a Kangaroo Fern growing in one of my pots. How on earth it got there I have no idea. Spore from somewhere ???????? I need to take a picture of it, it is so cute. I didn't have a clue as to what it was, neighbor identified it for me.
GAgirl,
LOL....I will have PLENTY of seeds to share ! I will send as soon as they are ready.
Oh did anyone see my post about cuttings of Chinese Croton's?

Aristolochia gigantica about 25 feet up in the trees

Mjsponies, your place sounds perfect, I would never get my DH to do any work around the yard with 3500 acres of wilderness to explore in Florida.
Lucky find on the Kangaroo fern, keep a eye out, there may be a few more out there.
That is a very unusual Croton. I have never seen it before. Good luck getting your cutting to root. I have had good results with rooting hormone and keeping them in a moist potting mix.
That is a very nice Aristolochia vine, I will probably never see the blooms on mine. The root is in my garden, but the foliage is in my neighbors yard.
Variegated Calice vine
Rita and Hap. Happy Birthday!!!!
I love the tropical kitty chaser the best.
I undid a part of the patio, and also re-potted some things for the adventure inside.
Remember this little guy? Well, he sure liked it outside under the brugs this summer..
I can't remember his name and if you can, please let me know and I will tag it.
That BOP is beautiful. Another day of bringing in things. It is supposed to get down to the 40's tonight. Rangoon creeper is gonna be a challenge. I might have to cut it half way up and save the bottom, maybe try to root the top. I already had droopy things from the cold last night. I just know it will be freezing here by October 10th. I feel it in my bones. All the flowers are going to seed all at once.
Rita, that is a nice Anthurium clavigerum and that little Monstera I sent you last year has tripled in size. Steve was kind enough to give me a Philo. mamei last year but it has been slow to grow for me. He is a generous person and I am looking forward to visiting him again. Here is my Anthurium dark moma and I can't wait until it is as full as yours.
Debra, nice macho fern and Dave I love the color of your cats eyes.
