Those are all beautiful! My Hilo is pouting since I re-potted it. I have a tropical room going now downstairs. Hubby has been helping with the big stuff. Now I can stay up all night and play this winter.

Joeswife, I misspoke yesterday about the weather, It was 53 F this morning. I had to get a jacket!

Metrosideros, I enjoyed all your pictures, they were very entertaining. My favorite was the homemade bird bath, the Egyptian Water Lily and the........

RachelLF, thanks, your dark moma is a nice big plant as well. I have mine in a homemade stand that my GS made for my B-day. I will wait until the plants in it have recovered before I show it off.

I wish my gingers had bloomed. They are still in the ground, as is alot of other stuff. I only have so much time in a day while working. This will be a busy weekend, and it isn't even Tuesday yet. I re-potted the Tapioca plant, it had a wilted look to it from the chill, and now all the leaves are stripped off.... who wanted that one? LOL Dang and it was so pretty. Oh Well, it will come back. I had to go to lowes tonight, found another Anthurium on the close out shelf, and had to get it. Poor thing. I also got a small pot of Rex Begonia.. why do they let those things just die like that? I can't stand it!
Rita, the tip from Cherub is already rooted. it has a teeny bud on it LOL.
I had said this was Pink Sensation, it is tagged Sweet Pink, sorry. second bloom from this plant. It is now inside, and is one long stem, so After the third bud has bloomed, I am taking it and cutting it and making cuttings. Here is hoping.

Hey Debra,
It was probably me, I offered to keep it for you over the winter. I just love them. If you want me to keep it let me know, they are very cold sensitive. Here is mine last year and the cold almost killed it even though it was protected. It took forever before it put out any leaves. Its coming inside the house this year.

Hello, I hope that everyone had a great day!! It was picture perfect here today.

Joeswife, thanks, I do need to visit my Lowe's to see what goodies they have left for me.
That pink double hibiscus is a keeper, no matter what her name is. It evokes a sense of serenity.

noid alocasia

Rita, I made an oopsie. The last Anthurium I showed is big splash and not dark moma. I had a duhh moment which is nothing new and does your noid Alocasia have pinkish stems/petioles? If so, I have no clue other than it may be something in the Longiloba group. It sure is interesting.

Red Oak, TX

RachelLF, I should have caught that one as well!! I remembered the name of my last alocasia, "Aurora". I thought I had better mention it before I forget it again.lol

Happy Birthday Happy_1.

The banana I mentioned previously was flowering when I got home today. Even got a couple of fruit. I understand they produce viable seed.

And the Giraffe's Knees, Gonatopus boivinii, that I thought I was going to miss out on the flowering has two new flower buds coming up. Hopefully they'll open before I have to be on my way back to work again.

My mangos are getting close to ripe. At least those mangos that aren't being eaten (or been already eaten) by the Flying Foxes, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, Red-winged Parrots, White Cheeked Rosellas, Collared Lorikeets, Possums, or other assorted raiders.

The recent rains have awoken my Drynaria quercifolia from their slumber.

Hi guys, sure miss friends and all things gardening! My luxurious gardening time has been compromised by an abundance of challenges. This is the one thread I occasionally lurk on to keep tabs on y'all. Things are calming down a bit, just on time to scurry for winter preparations.

Today is our last day under the name of Continental Airlines, tomorrow in name we become United Airlines, but operate separately until the single operating certificate is issued in about a year. My job, along with Headquarters is moving to Chicago in 2012, so have been busy making plans A, B, C and D in an effort to avoid moving to Chicago. Still, have been getting the house shaped up to enhance flexibility when all of the plans are on the table and decision time comes. Our first plane is painted with United over the Continental name and flies from Houston to Chicago tomorrow with the new CEO of United, and our current CEO Jeff Smisek.
Always changes!

I, for one, have missed you greatly, Randy. Even got out my file marked "Randy's Dirt" a few days ago. I will hope for the very best for you and that it won't be necessary to move to Chicago.

Blackshear, GA

I got a lovely surprise this morning, I was watering my flowers and saw this (pic below). I was just wondering if it would bloom this year as I kept it inside this year. The bloom was hanging off the side facing the window and I had not noticed it before.

It must be about 12 in. across, about the size of a dinner plate. Anyone know its name?

Nancy

Happy Birthday Happy and wishing you many more.

Rita, thanks for the name on your Alocasia. I have seldom viewed one with pink stems. It's cool.

Yonkers, NY

Hi Paula, That looks like Stapelia Gigantea or Grandiflora, my buds always fall off before they open. Nice plant. Jackie

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Whoa Randy, you will need a really big, HUGE actually, greenhouse in Chicago. Hope your finagling works out and you can stay in Texas.

Blackshear, GA

Thanks Hap & Jackie,
I was so excited to see it. I will label it this time.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi, Hap. DH reached 70 on the 12th. Still moping around about it. So funny that this macho male is worried about being a senior citizen. I will be 69 in October.

Hope this has been a perfect day for you.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hap, I sure am glad you had your birthday, I knew it was coming. DH, Joe had his 59th today. He stayed home, mowed the back and made some jello.. whoo hoo! Hope you did a bit of partying..
Missed you, Randy.
Tropicbreeze, your Garden always throws me into vacation mind.
GA girl that is a beautiful bloom! Congrats!
One room is ready and getting filled up, big one is ready, Joe brought in the Jasmine and the Snow Queen Hibiscus tonight, they had to stay out for two days until I was sure the pots and plants were de-bugged. *sigh*

Happy Birthday to Joe, that young whipper-snapper.

Happy Birthday Joe!

Debra, thanks, although, just now a vacation away from my garden seems like such a good idea for me. The other day there was a big storm here. It brought a large tree right down on the same area of garden that got a direct lightning strike earlier this year cooking 6 large Coconut palms (plus several other plants).

Thumbnail by tropicbreeze
noonamah, Australia

It's made quite a mess in the garden.

Thumbnail by tropicbreeze
noonamah, Australia

And the tree has a large Philodendron growing on it, same as the one that had been growing high up one of the Coconuts but got fried by the lightning. There's also a lot of orchids growing on that tree which are flowering and loaded with seed pods.

Thumbnail by tropicbreeze
noonamah, Australia

These are going to have to find a new home.

Thumbnail by tropicbreeze
noonamah, Australia

The Macarthur Palm should be okay when I get the weight of the tree trunk off it. The orchids and the Philodendron erubescens will move easily enough.

Thumbnail by tropicbreeze
noonamah, Australia

Elsewhere in the garden, my Giraffe's Knees took a hit from a falling branch. The flowers were below impact level but the petiole got a bit crushed.

Thumbnail by tropicbreeze

On a brighter note, my Alocasia reginula are flowering.

Alocasia melo as well.
