Nice catch on the puddle, Nanny

Good Gravy Dave. Those are great pix of the hawk. Kind of mixed feelings there at losing your blues, but a beautiful bird nonetheless.

Every evening I fill the sundial with water so the bluebirds can bathe, and this is what usually happens. Believe it or not there were at least 20 more in the air and on the ground around the sundial.

This is all that was left when they left.

So I filled it again.

aww! You're so good to keep an eye on it for those little cuties

Thanks Myrna.

Interesting how the older female bluebird on the right scolds the younger one, but ignores the house sparrow. BTW, unlike in past years when the parents selfishly guarded the nest box and the water and meal worm supply throughout the Fall and Winter, Papa doesn't seem to care and most of the young birds that hatched this year are gradually coming back to the feeder, along with some that appear to be neighborhood strangers since they don't understand how to get into the cage feeder to get the meal worms.

Maybe it is because he lost his mate. I still see him from time to time but nothing like past years.

maybe a sign that Papa is getting old. Which would be so sad.......

I got way behind again. That's what happens when I can't put the camera down.
Great shots everyone!! Dave, that hawk is beautiful, but I sure hope your birds are safe. Love the bbs in the water!

Nanny, your poor little cardinal looks so sad. Hope his feathers grow back fast.

Missy, I enjoyed seeing all your pretty birds.

Our Western Tanagers have finally started showing up. They're staying in a tall tree so I'm still trying to get better photos of them.

This California Towhee is looking more like a rooster to me. Three of them, I presume they're pretty young, have been chasing each other around for several days now.

Here's another shot of the bird.

Duc, your photos are so amazing. I love the vulture looking under his wing at you. Looks like you're flying next to him.

Darn it Dave! I thought I took a pretty good Cooper's Hawk pic today, but man, yours are incredible. My hawk only let me take two photos before flying off. He was about 15 feet in front of me too. I was on a path. He flew out from beside me and landed on a dead branch in front of me. Made my walk.

Nanny, love the flicker especially.

Bestmissy, really impressed with the variety. I may have to look up where this Hamlin is!

Red, those swans are stunning.

Hack, love the geese shot.

Really enjoyed all the photos. It's amazing what y'all have added in such a short time.

My best Cooper's Hawk pic which pales next to Dave's! That's OK. I still like it.

Here is another one of those shots where you just wonder what the heck this bird is doing.

Oh duc that towhee is funny!! lol

Elphaba, that hawk shot is fabulous! And I think that jay is really trying to make a point about something very important!

Hack, Congrats on the lifer!!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Elphaba, your hawk photo is amazing too! I love your jay's pose (great job with the wings) and the juvie crow is sure cute!

Hack, great photos and congratulations on the lifer! The Killdeer sure are pretty birds.

I had to this one from yesterday ID'd before I could post it. Best we can do is that it is one of the Empidonax flycatchers but don't know which one.

Another. For some strange reason I like this shot.

And this one makes me smile. With such confidence he flies into the feeder, when the bluebirds all struggle to squeeze in. One advantage of being small.
