I went out to Cooper Creek Park and saw this Great Egret out in the middle of the lake. The 400 prime pulled it in.

Good shot Nanny.
Hack, I went by the lake today, and sure enough the Canada Geese, are gathering. Love that Great Egret shot.

I was deleting lots of stored photos and came across this one I took a few weeks ago, when the Pileated Woodpecker came by for a visit. Just realized this one was staring down at me.

Haven't been on the board much lately. We are on a month-long trip out West. Spent last week in Pagosa Springs, CO and this week in Steamboat, then on to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone. I have a goal of seeing 100 species in CO and currently over 90 and a week to go.

It's always good to see different birds-- in person. I can always view them vicariously here.

I'll post some pics of a Trumpeter Swan family from Pagosa.

Saw an amusing event with these Trumpeters. There was a flock of about 65 Canadas on this lake. The cygnets decided they would swim over towards them. The male Trumpeter chased every last one of them off the lake. They landed on a nearby grassy area and then he chased them away from there and stood posturing, showing them he is the meanest SOB on the lake. It was hilarious to watch.

GP, that White-winged Dove is sure pretty. I didn't realize that white showed so much when they were sitting still. Loved the Pileated looking at you-lol.

Nanny, cute birds. The sun may not be good for photos, but at least you're seeing a nice variety. Wonderful photos of your Goldfinch.

Hack, those Brown Thrashers sure are pretty birds. Do your cardinals stay there year round? They sure are pretty too. Great job with the egret too.

Red, I'm so glad you're finding lots of birds in Colorado. We've been missing your pictures. Great job on the swan family and love the action of that meany guy. (Steamboat is my favorite town!)

These younger crows will allow me to walk fairly close to them for pictures as long as I put good food in the box for them.

This one comes every day to sit in the middle of my plant and eat the dirt under my plant. I thought he was eating bugs but I looked and couldn't find anything.

I'm just seeing one osprey fly past almost every day. Also, just one Bald Eagle seems to fly past us, but never lands in "their" tree anymore.

GP, I'm wondering what that Pileated was thinking, when he was starring at you? :)
Red, good to hear from you again, those are great shots of the Trumpeters Swans. let us know if you succeed in your goal.
Nanny, Goldfinches are not as numerous, as the Purple finch yet here. But their number is increasing.
Good looking Crows, lesser Goldfinch and Osprey, Duc.

Eastern Phoebe, I think.

Enjoyed the Osprey. I've seen several up here, but no pics. When I'm birding a bit more seriously, I tend to keep my binocs working and don't pick up the camera as often. We've also seen some Golden Eagles and several other hawks.

Here is a pic of a Cedar Waxwing taken on the Yampa River here in Steamboat. This one looks different from the ones I see at home, has more brown and less yellow on it's belly.

Looks like the coloring which I knew when I was growing up in WI. older birds?

Norman, OK

This one appeared to be a younger bird, didn't have the red wing spots.

Red, Bohemian Waxwing are a grayish brown on the chest and undertail coverts is a Rust color. This is probably what you have.

Nope, it is a Cedar Waxwing - not least, that's the only waxwing that'll occur anywhere in the US Lower 48 at this time of year ;-)

Saw lots of warblers flitting around this morning on my walk......only got a few good pics tho of 2-3 different kinds.

I believe this is a Nashville Warbler.....I just saw a bird down the road a bit and hoped I was getting it! Had no idea what it was at the time it was so far away...lol!

Ducbucln nice shot. Surprised the water drops were not blurred with a shutter speed of 1/80.

Wow Nanny you are lucky to spot all those warblers. I hope I can get that lucky this season.

This male Lesser Goldfinch was enjoying the tabletop bath.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I haven't been around my computer much lately, but I've enjoyed getting caught up on all the great pics!
I've got a few pics I'd like to post, but I'll start with a Ruby-throat, because there are so many of them and they are so active right now. Also, I'm headed to Hummerfest in Rockport, TX, this week! Is anyone else going?

Nice pics, Missy. You did a great job catching that Nighthawk.

Stafford County, VA

Just got a close look at one of the hawks that have been terrorizing the birds in my back yard this past month. I was focused on a young bluebird that seemed awfully nervous. When he suddenly flew, this is what appeared in my viewfinder. Taken from closer than 15 feet with a 500mm lens.

I got 15 or 20 shots before he flew up into a nearby tree.

Nice shots everyone!! Nice shots of the young Cooper's Hawk Dave, they sure are a bold bird...Ive been finding feathers around the feeder area. Mostly HS feathers though.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Neat shots Missy! I saw 2 Common Nighthawks last night. The ones for this year. We usually have a bunch this time of year.

VERY AWESOME...and scary, Dave!!

The warblers were out in force this morning but not sure if I had any luck. I know I missed a couple of really good ones right in front of me!

Poor Mr. Cardinal.....but he still looked kind of pretty! lol
