Thought for the Day - #8
Good ones everyone.
My friend, I don't know what you're going through, but look and see if God is trying to direct you, inspect you, correct you, protect you, or perfect you.
I especially appreciate this one.

I hope you don't mind me poking my beak in here, but I just love this thread. Wise, true and funny thoughts.
I saw one on a chalk board outside a dry-cleaners and just loved it: "Measure wealth not by what you own, but by what you would not sell."
The more the merrier Margaret!
"You will never win a fight with a wire coat hanger." (My own).
I have no wire coat hangers so I do not understand????
Welcome Margaret. I loved the first one. Just to think, what would I not sell? I will have to think about that. My question, is that list suppose to be short or long.
The most import things in life are not things. Unknown. to me anyway.
Children aren’t little; they’re condensed.
On another note, I saw Elizabeth Edwards interviewed by Nate Berkus (he has a talk/decorating show on in the weekday afternoons). She is such a gracious lady dealing with 3 major negative events. Of course the widely publicized affair of her husband and the Stage 4 cancer, but I had not known about her teenage son dying 14 years ago. Really, she has cause to be anything but the stoic, lovely mom and lady that she is. Kudos to her!
"You will never win a fight with a wire coat hanger." (My own).
Now that is one that made me laugh! It may not have any special meaning, but if it makes someone laugh, it has value. Thanks MK!
Evelyn
Don't you have wire coat hangers over there? If you don't, I'll take a photo of those crazy beasts and post it.
Yes, we do! It is still funny!
I know what a wire hanger is but why is a problem. Maybe the problem is why I have none.
LOL. Go and buy 6 wire coat-hangers. Place clothes on them and hang them in the wardrobe. Then, go back and try to remove just one coat-hanger. Believe me, it will be caught up in all the others and they'll be caught up in it - as if by magic. The most natural reaction is to do your lolly and try to forcibly remove it, but the more you try, the more caught up they become. They should test "wire coat-hanger tolerance" in anger management classes - anyone who can gently and systematically separate these wilful entities should immediately pass.
'No wire hangers.' Joan Crawford
Joan Crawford the legendary Joan Crawford weegy12? I remember the movies 'Mommy Dearest' long ago. I need to go back and look for that movies...
Yup, THE Mommy Dearest of them all, Joan Crawford!! Good movie. I could see it again too.
This week's Love Our Earth quote
This planet is not terra firma.
It is a delicate flower and it must be cared for.
It's lonely.
It's small.
It's isolated, and there is no resupply.
And we are mistreating it.
—Scott Carpenter, astronaut
Here's one that someone had as the tag line on their e-mail. I loved it!
Save the earth! It's the only planet with chocolate. ~ anon.
^_^
"Opie, you haven't finished your milk. We can't put it back in the cow, you know."
Aunt Bea, The Andy Griffith Show
I loved Aunt Bea!
'A child is someone who knows all the questions at age eight and all the answers at eighteen!'
I'm on vacation, and while packing for vacation, dealing with problem after problem with the farm, bee barn, and a plumbing problem at Moms'. I coined a new term. I am wondering how long this will reach me used by someone I know, not in my DG Circle of Friends. : - )
That was a very BAD day. I was in so much pain, and stress only compounds my health condition. I was STRESSED OUT BEYOND BELIEF!
Now I wasn't meaning to shout at you all, but I was "anxious to see those nice young men in their clean white, coats." (You might have to explain that to some for me, kwan.) Since they didn't arrive, I set down to talk to one of my friends.
The Acronym for the above is SOBB!, now remember I read backwards as easily as I do forwards, so It looked like BBOS, and I don't know about you but the appearance is just funny (ha ha) looking to me. I've had some good bosses and I always enjoyed being my own boss, which was when I realized that, (Thanks for the words Sheryl Crow) "I'm still the Boss of Me!" Which made me smile. : - ) I am still the boss of me.
So I'm smiling and thinking about the silliness of my wordplay when it struck me that when I SOBB, I can't have a pity party. Why? Because it's just a plain silly thing, I can't help but smile, so I don't feel sorry for myself anymore. : - )
Maybe, I am healing finally, or at least starting to.
Hope to have a real quote for you all tomorrow or soon. At the beach, but I was missing you and all the profound, wonderful and thoughtful things you've shared. : - )
Margaret, it's always a pleasure to here from you. Of course I'm kind of fond of you for reaching out to me and treating me with nothing but kindness since I joined DG. Your voice/posts are most welcome here.
First Sunny day since I got here. I'm off to take sunset photos~

Jules
Don't have a quote for you (that's why I don't come here very often), wanted to tell you dear one to relax and enjoy your time out.
Love ya,
Sylvia
Yes'm! : - )
Wisdom works for me! : - )

SW
O.K. Here come my quote from me, surprise, surprise, "Wisdom comes with age. When we've been there and done that" Hopefully we have learned to not do that stupid thing again.
Sylvia
Or the only way people DO learn is from their mistakes.
So true, Sylvia, so true. Good one to think about no matter what your age. : - )

SW
Jules, are you in Oceanside?
LOL I would be more than happy to explain the reference, SW but I think most of the good folks here know it.
Yes I am in O'side. Finally the temps got warm! : - )
kwan, I knew you'd catch the reference. I got a photo for you! : - )
Had to get up at like 4:00 am, but was pleased even if wasn't what I expected. : - )
Photo is dedicated to kwan, who turned me, Jason, and my GF Cyndi onto the Blackmore's Night song, "Under a Violet Moon".
Best I could do, well you'll see. : - ) (teasing chuckle!)
Life is good, and tomorrow I'm zipping myself into my wetsuit and going boogie boarding. Too crowded this weekend. Poor surfers are having short rides so they don't run over boogie boarders and body surfers. It's great fun.
Been taking lots of photos of the daily parade, but haven't had time to post 'em yet.
I even found time to find you a quote.
"Timidi numquam statuere trophaeum"
Which is Latin and means,
"The timid never erect monuments"
Found as a dedication to Patrica Cornwell, in a Linda Fairstein book.
More soon, guys are back with FOOD! LOL!

SW, thanks, I love the song and the pic!
"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future."
Galadriel, Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien
Ya know Galadriel was my second favorite character in that series. Have you ever read the satire, written in the late 60's early 70's, called "Bored of the Rings". It was hilarious.
Wasn't Galadriel speaking to Pippin, or was it Merry? I forget. : - |
Got a riddle for you today. : - )
"What can run but never walk? Has a mouth, but never talks? Has a head but never weeps? Has a bed but never sleeps?"
Answer tomorrow if no one gets it in the meantime! LOL! : - )
WIB!
SW
A river?
evelyn,
You are quick and you are right! A river is the correct answer. : - )
Now tell me who my favorite character in the Lord Of the Rings is? LOL!
Well done sweetie. : - )

This week's Love Our Earth quote:
All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Earth, our mother,
Who feeds us and produces various fruits
With colored flowers and herbs.
~ St. Francis
Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum, but thought that I would leave a little nugget from my childhood.
My mom had a refrigerator magnet that pretty much summarized her philosophy on life, subsequently mine:
This house is clean enough to be healthy, and messy enough to be happy.
This message was edited Sep 27, 2010 9:58 PM
She also had another one that is best to pay close attention to:
"If mama ain't happy...ain't nobody happy...."
Having said that: I was a very happy kid.
Attached is a photo of her this summer when she came to Baja to visit me. I took her down to the water, and snapped this photo. Believe it or not, it was a warm summers day. The fog just kind of roller in when I took the shot, then rolled abck out again.

Where is everyone. SW, it is time for you to come home.
Life is like a roll of toilet paper...
The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
Thanks DW for sharing. How very nice an ocean view where your Mom has visited. LOL WLS. I need to hurry up and enjoy my time before it "runs out". lol
Here is one; "Trust yourself. You know more than you think." ~Benjamin Spock~
I heard one the other day. I think it's an old Vietnamese saying: Do what needs to be done now, now, because later is too late.
Oh Margaret! That does hit home for me. My daughter used to tell me. "Procastinate tomorrow, do what we need to do today".
