Thomaston, CT

Hit 90 here once again....breeze is picking up now from the South....hope it clears out the bad air soon!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Stayed cooler here barely reaching 85°, but very uncomfortable due to the stagnant air.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

my co worker that lives in north western NJ... just texted me saying he has live butterflies all over his lawn... think they know about the storm?.. does it mean anything?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Time to mow??

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

good luck all with the storm coming.
86 for a high today. hope our cold front comes and gets rid of this humidity.

East Bridgewater, MA

Butterflies all over the lawn?

It may be the annual monarch butterfly migration to Mexico.

Did he describe the colors?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Orange & black, I would guess!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

we had them(monarch butterflies) on our cedar tree a few years ago. have pics somewhere.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Did he take video of the butterflies?
National weather service for my area says only "scattered showers" UGH, I better get some stinking rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It hit 96 again

East Bridgewater, MA

Yep, monarch butterflies differ from some others, because they behave like the swallows returning to Capistrano in periodic fashion.

(Gosh, if only my knowledge of trivia could translate into something useful. Hello, "Jeopardy"?)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Parts of Maine hit 96 today also........not sure what it was here, stayed in all day. :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I just asked him

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

40% chance of rain here tomorrow. It's a let down when I wanted a wet down.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Victor, Home owners doesn't cover plant damage or clean up unless it's on top of your car or house. We had some major clean up issues after this past winter';s snow storms, and did inquire about it.
Looks like we may be back in OBX by 2pm tomorrow.
Our schools opened last Wednesday. Some idiot in their infinite wisdom decided an early start would avoid snow make up days in the spring. Now the schools are closing early each day, due to heat. Virtually none of buildings have AC, not to mention it messes with the last holiday weekend of summer. Try planning a getaway on that schedule Funny, I don't recall ever voting on that issue. The districts have also established new guidelines for trips to be considered educational, now a trip is as likely to be an unexcused absence. Ric

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

The Monarchs congregate here the 1st week of October on Fire Island, I guess it's their last chance to get a snack, (the wild goldenrod), before they head out to southern parts.

East Bridgewater, MA

Yep, I'm a numskull.............What's OBX?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Outer Banks North Carolina, The peninsula from Virginia and the barrier islands. Think Kitty Hawk. Ric

East Bridgewater, MA

thanks

Thomaston, CT

Partly sunny here right now....hoping for some rain after that terrible heat!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Glad you and Holly are OK Ric, we are getting ready here but doubt it's anything to worry about. Feel much better now that it's downgraded to a cat. 2 storm. Just hope it doesn't pick up speed and turn slightly to the west...then we're screwed! LOL

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Overcast here to mostly cloudy. Temp is 75 degrees and very light wind from the west. Should be a category one by the time it gets up here this evening and overnight. Cape and islands will feel the winds but inland where I am if it stays on the predicted coarse only like a nor'easter really. Mostly rain around 1-2 inches and some gusty winds. By saturday morning the sun should be out.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

not sure i will even get rain from this one - what else is new!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Ric. I guessed it would not be covered.

Well our schools open Tue, but the kids are off Th and Fr for Jewish holidays!

80 and cloudy. 63% H. Waiting for Earl.

East Bridgewater, MA

Not gonna happen in Salt Lake City.

(edit: different strokes for different folks --and different schedule-- no offense intended.)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Don't know. The teachers call the shots.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Traditional here for as long as I can remember to start week after Labor Day here. Teachers report the week before. Originally was because of harvest, now because no ac in schools and families still on vacation. No school age kids for a long time here so doesn't effect me one way or the other. Still get that need to shop impulse though, even after all these years. LOL.
Very grey and getting a little darker just now. No rain or wind gusts yet. Temp is 81 degrees. Tropical Storm Wind Advisories are up for my area, but I am on the far edge of this area.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Just checked radar and the first band of rain is about five miles south and headed this way.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

We're getting intermittent bands of rain here, much more rain expected tonight.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Earl was a no-show here.

81 and cloudy, with 68% H. Nice weekend!

Thomaston, CT

Our town started school on Wed.....only the HS has A/C....the elem. school has windows that barely open....I felt very sorry for kids & teachers in that oven......even with a fan, I was sick from the heat while teaching at the elem. school many years ago. No rain here yet....weather forecast is predicting rain later tonight....I hope so.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, no a/c in our ES. Hopefully cool weather will be the norm soon!
