Yes, I go in January too, in fact I go the least in August and the most in Sep/ Oct. Many of the people who live out here love the beach so there's always a dozen or so around the main entrance, but I do take my 4x4 to the 'outer beach' every now and then in the winter, where there's no one as far as the eye can see.
- Luckily DW loves it then as well.

I miss the "good old days" on Cape Cod in the 1960's, when harvesting "bounty" from the coast had minimal restrictions, and crowds were sparse.

Wow.....my poppies have been history for months! Victor, a state park along the CT shore, Rocky Neck, has the same type of construction.....also built by the CCC. Wc, loved the beach photos, especially the peeps.

The hyasenths I have this time of year are the muscarii that bloom in spring but foliage now.

No, it wasn't cold, it was very humid and windy, in fact the cloud cover & the wind made the ~ 2 mile walk bearable. In the sun it would have been like joining the Foreign legion... (lol)
