Blooming Brugs

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

That cerus bloom is beautiful, Elizabeth!
Debra, great pic of the snow on the moutain...such pretty variegation.
Charleen, could your crosses be some from Gordon. Remember, I shared what he sent to me last fall, because you had missed out on his cuttings for postage? I know he sent some crosses.
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Thank you Dee. I bet that is where they come from. I have two that made it. I'll show you the blooms. I know I couldn't remember. Now about Elephant ears. Do you have the hi-lo colasia (?) I see mine has a baby on it. got a purple stem also.
Illustia(?) they sure are nice.

You know what, Charleen? I had forgotten that I did have a little hilo beauty, that I got in a co-op, and it didn't gro well for me. I bet I did send that one to you.Illustris is the one with black and green leaves that you have. The black stem is Fontanesii. I have both of those.I thought that I had lost my illustis over winter, but I had found a tiny little fat root, when I got them out last spring, and I planted it, and don't ya know...it was an illustris. I know it is pretty common, but it is one of my favorite EE's.
Dee

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

They all look so happy charleen. Will you able to leave them out, or will you have to bring them in? I am gonna pot my EE's up and try growing them in the sun room this winter.I always loose some to rot, not matter how I store them.Maybe growing them will work better. I love them!
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I really don't know Dee. if the leave start turning yellow, I guess I'll try to bring them in.
They are very pretty after I moved them to a shaded area and better access to water.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

MM X MEM is one I sent out... Charleen... didn't I end up sending you some last year.. or sometime... or did i figure you were being filled in... little did any of us know your capacity to grow some out... an endless supply of fertilizers is sure helpful

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

My Dr. Seuss finally opened at our little museum although I am concerned about it's very life. Painters sprayed the paint on the 1881 house and let spray cover the brug. They also broke off 2 branches. This is after i warned them.
Can't sleep and have to be in town tomorrow at 10 a.m. It's gonna be rough if I can't get to sleep. *Yawn* Good night.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Here it is Gordon. No you didn't get me any but Dee sent me a couple and taken root and growing. This one is in the ground. Other one is in pot. It smells so good. But I don't know about the color yet. I'm waiting. Afraid it will be white.
I was hoping it would be pink or something! I'm waiting.

Charlene, I bet it will be a pretty one when it Blooms, my Peanut X Rosalla, might have some color when the weather gets a little bit cooler, but so far it has been white, it's still a pretty Bloom
Gordon, I went out too do my daily inspection, there was a brown cat, it was on one of my Brugs that had just set Buds well that cat was on a suiside mission, I also found some tiny green one's it's no wonder you can't spot those, they do hide
along the stem right next to the Buds
Woodspirit, I hope you Brug makes it, that is so disappointing, when something like that happens

Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
this is what I am waiting on, so far I have had Blooms but no big Flushes, now it's cooler in the mornings, so maybe that's what it took to get them in Gear, oh I have a nice size Bud on NN

Good morning, it should be Blooming in the next couple days, as well as Santa Rosa, Flame, & P&C, I think all of them will be Blooming at the same time, Superspot has Buds also, I will post Photo's, I almost caught a hummingbird, but by the time I ran & got the camera it flew away, they're so quick

Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Hummers are so fast. I have a time getting pic of them.
I like it when they sit and profile for me. Just like this.

Elizabeth, My NN has a couple tiny tiny buds on it, and my one with the faded tag is gonna have a flush. The biggest bloom on it is just beginning to open. I can hardly wait.Painted lady has a few nice buds coming on, and Solid gold, has only one bud that I have found so far.I have another one that has a bunch of tiny buds...maybe it was Mary K.
Great hummer pic, Charleen. Here's the boss of one of my feeders. It's easy to get a pic of him, cause he's always perched there standing guard over "his" feeder..lol

Elizabeth

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

will Epsome salt aid in getting blooms?

Sheri

Hamilton, OH

Sheri
it's too green up everything, I use it on my lawn also too keep it green in the hottest months, it just takes time, I have used Miracle grow plant food all Summer, I also had mine in the ground since the last of April too get Blooms quicker, there's some that I don't know if they'll Bloom before I take them in for the winter, the end of September, the heat causes Buds
too drop, I have had that problem with Rosalla, do you have any Buds? you have a longer growing season than I do, just give it time, I hope I have helped you, I checked my plants today, I do have a rooted night Blooming Cerus for you if you want it, I will send it too you around the middle of September

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Dee, looking good, it should Bloom for you anytime now, Angels Moonlight hasn't done anything except get those ugly leaves on it, I cut it back, but I don't thing it's going too make it, but Bon Bon has buds
Debra impressive, Girl you're doing a great Job with your Maya, maybe next Spring mine will look like yours, this has been a disappointing year, with my Brugs, usually by this time they are loaded with Blooms, so much for getting them out early, I really like your patio, looks so inviting

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Debra, your brugs look great...so healthy! Love your jungle patio.
Elizabeth, I just got in from checking the brugs. That bloom is not quite open, but it sure smells wonderful.Hopefully tomorrow. Here's a pic of a seedling of Bernstein X Josie Grace(one of Paul's crosses). It doesn't have any buds, but I wanted you to see the leaves. I don't know if there a name for this type of leaf, but it's almost like it is pleated.None of my others are like this, and I love it.Hope you can see it in the pic.

it's good too see you, I like the leaves on your Brug, this Santa Rosa is taller than my trellis, when the Bloom first opened I was so glad it was yellow, it didn't stay that way for long I bet in the morning it will be Pink, you can see where the worms got too it, this Summer has be awful there are so many worms, I never imagined that Santa Rose would be taller than NN
but it is

That pergola is bad need of a paint job! Too many other things needed done this year, so it will probably have to wait til Spring.
Dee

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I love the leaves on that Brug, Dee. and Alot of things need paintin' and fixin' around this old place. The Patio is breaking up like a glacier continent, so now I have plants growing in the cracks.. LOL here is cherub this am under the Old Pear tree, she has three stems, but this is the big one, and it came from a trade with Xermathum, and was just a root ball.

Thanks, Debra.I like the leaves too.I was looking at pics of Bernstein, and it looks like it has pleated leaves like my seedling.
That Cherub is one happy looking brug.Hope you post a pic, when she blooms.
I know what you mean about plants growing in the cracks on the patio. At our last place, I was always having something self sow in the cracks...lol If they were out of the way, I would just let 'em grow.
Debra, I plant on mailing you a nice box out around the 8th..I hope you will have the time to get a few things in the ground.
Dee

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I have been gathering things up for you as well, Dee, as I know you are in a new place with lots of room to grow things.. My Mail outs will be starting around mid September .. I am off work all NEXT week, so will be thinning, digging ( carefully)
and moving things in, as well as getting wish lists fulfilled. I am way crowded in perennials this year, and need to thin them out... I have rooted pieces of this trumpet vine now.

Santa Rosa is just drop Dead Gorgeous, Elizabeth. Lovely! My trumpet vine took two years to bloom, I kept cutting it back, this year I cut it severely and it decided to put out bloom runners.
