Beautiful blooms, everyone.I have one thats real close to dropping, and others with buds, so I hope to be sharing pics soon.
Are any of you growing Black thai banana? It is an amazing plant.Mine must be 10 ft. tall. The leaves are green, but it has a black stalk.
Dee

Dee
it's good too see you. I am not sure what kind of banana's i am growing, I have 2 that keep getting bigger, not nearly as tall as yours, maybe three feet, they are green, I am thinking about just leaving them out, when i have too take everything in before Frost, with all the Brugs, I am also thinking about getting rid of a lot of the house plants in about 3 weeks, too much work,

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Yes, it is a lot of work, isn't it. I'm dreading all the digging, etc. I have so enjoyed watching the brugs grow, this year. Some of them are just huge, while others are small and slow.I don't think I have ever enjoyed a plant more.
I have a musa basjoo, the hardy banana, that has several pups.I think I am gonna leave the mamma plant in the ground, but bring in some babies, to grow thru the winter.I have tried leaving one out a couple times, and lost them both, so this year, I will play it safe by growing the babies inside.I think they would be better off, if I had them planted in a protected area, close to the house, but mine are out in the middle of the yard(in one of the brug beds).
This year, I have added several different plants that will have to come in for the winter. Why do we all love tropicals, so much?..lol
Dee

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I love your brugs blooms Charleen. Maya gets very big when she is taken care of winter in and summer out, Bonnies is as big as a tree. Mine is covered with buds finally. so is PnC. Cassies Curls, Cherub, Isabella and CG. Finally.
I love missbhavin. I gotta get me one. LOL
Dee, I am going to bring all my stuff in like last year, I said I wouldn't but can't stand the thought of being stuck inside with football all winter. I set my stuff up in the basement and make a little paradise for me. I have already begun getting it ready. End of September I start bringing stuff in cuz I don't get as much leaf drop and shock from temp changes that way.
Football starts by then, too. UGH
Elizabeth, have you an IOCHROMA? I will be taking cuttings of it soon. it is purple queen.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

ll of the blooms are so beautiful. I just know I will be doing the jumping happy dance when I get my first bloom
I had a night blooming Cereus that was lost to a house fire. Oh I had some lovely old houseplants back then.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

OH Debra.. I'll trade you a red Iochroma for a bit of yours..
Birdie... I'm always getting some of one of my night blooming cereuses [ 4 or 5 ] broken off.. they sit real high up in the winds.. in a mass on top of the chimney... should I be sending some to you
in the picture the red Iochroma is growing with/next to the always blooming Duranta

Dee ,do you have sprouts on your Black Banana?? I have some on my blood Banana. Wanna swap shoots???
Elizabeth, my P&C didn't make it. May have to try it again. The stubs that the worms ate on my Maya are dropping off and I see new leaves so she is coming back.
Get us a pic on the Cereus Cacti when it blooms, ,should be beautiful.

Good morning
Dee, I have over 35 figs on my fig tree that I leave out in winter, I do cover it wtih a plastic trash can that I cut the bottom out of so I could turn it upside down, then put all the maple leaves, that I collect from the neighbors tree, I was told 2 different stories on that fig, one person told me I had too dig it up, the other one said it was hardy in our zone, so I protect it
last year it has 13 by the time the squirrels got done there were 4 left
Debra, I had the purple Iochroma & a few others that I bought, they just don't do well for me, Thank you so much for the offer, I think I over watered them
Sheri, I also have a few Cerus Rooted if you want one, at the end of September, I can also send you cutting of the day Blooming one, it hasn't Bloomed yet, I think it needs more sun, I have it on the porch, I am going too move it out in the yard
Gordon, good morning too you, you have an awesome collection, I also have the Duranta, do you brig yours in for the winter

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Charleen, my thai banana has one small pup on it.I have been watching for some all summer. It has your name on it, if it makes it ok.I don't want to dig around on it til I bring it in,tho. Then, if you want to swap for one of your blood banana babies for it,I'd love too! You all, posting all your great pics, has me wanting to post some, so this one is of the black thai banana, with brugs and cannas. You can't see them, but there are buds on some of the brugs..lol
Elizabeth. I will try your trashcan and leaves method on the hardy banana.Mmmm, I love figs!
Love your Iochroma, Gordon.

Look at all the bees on this Rose of Sharon. Isn't it great?

I know bees are a good thing, and I even plant plants to attract them, but I don't especially like them...lol That is cool, tho!
Dee

Gordon- your plants and blooms are lovely. Do you have them in a greenhouse or outside? Do you root the pieces that fall off of your Cereus? I'm thinking it must be huge.

Hamilton, OH

Dee
I am so impressed, everything looks Beautiful, so healthy, I just got done, doing my daily inspection, found some tiny cats
I have never seen them that small, that Gordon sure knew what he was talking about, my Flame, Naughty Nice & Bon Bon all have Buds on them, so does Elizabeth if the cats doesn't eat them, Superspots, has Buds, oh P&C is going too have a descent flush, I think the 90 degree weather with low humidity has been great the last couple days, the funny thing about the fig, it only has a couple ripe ones a day, I think you'll like using the garbage can, it really does protect my fig, I'll get you a photo of it later

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Elizabeth.Sounds like you are gonna have a bunch blooming soon. I can hardly wait to see your pics.I was checking tags today, to see if I needed to re-fresh any , and wouldn't you know it, the one that is about ready to bloom, the tag has completely faded, can't read a thing...grrrrr
Yep, that Gordon knows what he's talkin' bout. And so does Veronica.Remember, when she was telling you what might be wrong with your brugs with the small leaves? Well, since mine looked a lot like yours, I thought I would try the simplest solution first. I thought I would try the flushing for a salt build up.And guess what. All the new leaves coming on, are looking great. I have been watering the heck out of them. You can hardly tell how bad they looked..Of course, I stipped all the ugly leaves away.
We have been having cooler weather than you, Elizabeth. It has been in the low 80's here the past couple days.
Dee

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Charleen, how big is your blood banana? It looks huge. Can you leave it in the ground there. The black Thai will be hardy for you, I know. What is the ferny looking plant to the left of your banana...a mimosa? I like it!
Dee

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Wow! Great Garden Pics! I didn't know you can grow a fig in your Zone, Elizabeth. Aren't you a bit farther north than I am? Hmm. I used to love the fig trees as a kid in California.
Iochromas do okay for me outside, they struggle inside, so I cut them back and let them go semi dormant. Once they get outside here they come back again. One bloomed all winter for me last year tho. It was stuck clear in the back with the bananas so I couldn't water it as much, and was under a light about 10 inches from it. Gordon, I can send you a good sized cuttig, do you want me to root it now? I would love a red Iochroma.
No cats for the past two days on my brugs, but boy the birds have sure had a hayday with PV and CG.. I think they have been getting those worms, instead. Looks like small birds have been perching and pecking on them. Buds are still intact, tho.

Hamilton, OH

Good Morning
Dee, Charlene & Debra
I have too say Dee you're right Veronica is a wealth of Knowledge, she did a wonderful job letting me know what to do about my Brugs, a lot of people depend on her
Debra my zone is 6B, I will take a photo of my Brown Turkey Fig, in a little while, I have 4 figs, the 3, I left unprotected
are about a foot tall with no fruit on them, in the Spring Lowes has them, I think if you were to plant one there, then keep it protected in the winter you could grow one, I also have Artic Kiwi, but you have too have a female & a male too get fruit the male one died, the female has taken over, I am going too cut it down before it tears my Privacy fence down, I need too redo that part of my garden anyway, you are lucky too have no worms, I have too get them everyday

Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I have to repot that mimosa. Yep that is what it is. My Blood Banana is in a pot, so all I have to do is remove the baby when you are ready.
Would you like a baby mimosa tree, Dee? I'll find you one, just let me know.
I have small figs on my bushes, the donkeys don't start on them til they see me eatting one. Then that's it, no more figs for Mulemama.......

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Charleen, thanks, for the offer, but I have a chocolate mimosa. Mine is still small, but I think one mimosa per yard is enough..lol Here's a pic of it.My husband keeps wanting to trim the side branches, but I told him, not til it's bigger.I have only had it for a year, and one branch died off, last winter.

See all those petunias at the base...when I dug this tree up at the other house to move it here. When I potted it up, I used some dirt from a planter that I had petunias in last year, and they had dropped seeds, evidently.Since I like the chocolate and pink together,I just left them, when I planted the tree, here.I have another pot of the same petunias, that re-seeded..I'll never pull out dead petunias in the fall again..lol
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Dee, those things have a Heck of a taproot. . My grandmother brought one back from Arkansas when they went back for visit. I was a kid in MO. that was the prettiest tree and I loved the blooms. they still are beautiful. Just don't want one close to the house. they can get messy. the hummers and butterflies love them too. I have the woods, so it wouldn't be hard to find one, at all.

Debra,
Your Snow-on-the-Mountain is beautiful. It grows wild around here. Some untended pastures are covered in it. I loved having it here on the ranch, but it is toxic to cattle. So it had to go. Adult cattle will avoid it unless there is nothing else to eat, but calves are not so discriminating. Like children, they will taste anything

Hamilton, OH

Good morning
Gordon, I got a better photo of the Cerus Blooming, it's much better this morning
Debra, just Beautiful, I love the color's on your snow on the mountain
Veronica, Girl you're so lucky too have cattle
