Morning glory adventures.. August 2010 in Kansas

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

This is the very North east end of the house, you can see the Mammoth sunflowers there, as well as the rest of the stuff, and there is a very long alba moonvine climbing those sunflowers, and that will be cool, if I can keep those big stalks up, hubby Joe and I are putting supports on these plants this weekend, just in CASE we ever do get a summer rain storm again. The fence on down east is where I had my special vines growing, and the only thing saving the ones that are doing okay, are the ones inside the plastic Garden Bed liner, a little farther west of the house.

This is the North end of the Patio, it has my hibiscus and brugs in it and then there is the corner barrell that I just cut back and separated all the potted vines that were around it and climbing. Those are now in the south garden that used to be the bean patch. the coconut coir tub that is supposed to be in the holder is on the ground while we wait for this triple digit heat wave to pass.

Every year I have a plan, and someting thwarts the plan. This year it was my back injury. Things didn't get to where they were supposed to go. And now they won't. I have started cleaning the basement to get ready for the plants to come in. I am going to have a special vine corner. I have so many vines in small pots that it will be easy .
This is the OTHER side of the patio where the chair is.

Here is the old bean patch right outside our back door, you can see the little path there between the gardens and the house. here is where they are, the new baby tomatoe plants, and the new trimmed morning glory vines, along with a few other things in there. This will be all filled in and fluffy in another month.

This is the outside of the area we were sittin in on the bean patch side. I have a tall tri level plant holder that is holding three pots of plants, and then another stand which holds my hibiscus and lantanas and goldfinger tub.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

This is the corner barrell behind us to the left, on the bean patch end, it has sunflowers, tall grasses, passion vines, tomatoe vine, morning glorys and a few lead wires for the vines to crawl on when they get tired of the tall flowers in the barrell.Somewhere in there , is a nice ruby glow passion vine, some carolina jasmine, some liatris, some cestrum, and some red oxalis. poor things.Oh, and there is another three teir plant stand, and another shorter one, holding the rest of the smaller sunflowers zinnias and vrigated impatiens. sheesh, what was I thinking? Did I tell you that the jasmine sambuc was right behind us in that chair? oh yes, it smells loverly in that spot while sitting there at night, with the four o clocks and all. You can jst almost watch I. lindenheimer budding out, and that cute lil gypsy bride, right there at your finger tips. Oh, I love my little Kansas oasis here.

Here is the Argyea wallachii, and the other seedlings I am watching with interest. It doesn't make it hard, it is very easy to sit and observe when they are this easy to access. I wish the whole yard was on a table LOL

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

This table is one of my favorite places to be at as you can tell. It is hard to leave it. I just stuck two lav moon vine seeds in one of these pots, that i had soaking in a clay shallow dish for three days, they popped right open in the heat, and one of them is now in the corner of the garden walkway.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

We are still looking at the things on the table. The red cup holds tree seeds. I am hoping the big leafed seedling is a magnoila ( southern ) I have had those tree seeds in there a long time. Soon I will transplant all these things, and leave out what is hardy, and bring in what is not.
You can see the vines climbing the umbrella pole, and they are held there with sheer netting ribbon I found at a Goodwill for 50 cents.

This Xiongs climbed way to the top of the cane poles in the south corner barrell, I like those blooms.

My little hideaway from the outside. We need to mow. It was 103 here yesterday , the day before and will be today. The grass can go to seed. I don't care. Have a good day today! Pray for rain.!

Very nice blooms Debra. We've had rain 3 out of 4 days.
Cooled down after the storms but will get back to 103 or so tomorrow.
Hope the rain comes your way.

Debra - Wow! Look at all the vines and growth!!! You must have great soil. Your fence line looks awesome!!!

Your blooms are wonderful! All different cultivars and even a few crosses from what it appears. And I love all the others types of plants that you are growing!

This one may be Sazanami: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=8032601 I hope so! It's one of my favorites! Looks like you got a true blue one!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thank you everyone, I am in the "late for work" Mode now and my boss knows what I am doing, trying to get the perfect shots.. this am I about had a heart attack over some of the blooms that popped open, I felt like I had just died and gone to heaven. These do have a tag, I just didn't have time to stoop down all dressed up and dig around in the pot.. I moved these from the corner barrell area to the bean patch and the were just a small vine. They look like clear GRAY not the lavender the camera took, of course I took 50 shots trying to get the silvery gray, but it just would not do it.

The sanzanami seeds were from Jackie, I had no clue what to expect.

I never know what to expect with these morning glorys any way, it is like Christmas, my birthday and a wish come true, all at the same time. My water bill was only 20 dollars higher than last month, with no rain still and temps in the 100s, I am glad I moved these plants to the bean patch.
To the right of the chair, down on the bottom of the "wall" of plants, these two lovely huge blooms greeted me this am.
Do you like them? I do..

This one was a treat, in the north tomatoe patch.. all proud and everything... being elusive in its ability to be photographic.

Mjs, you can use any ideas I have shown ya all, I don't own them. I really did have a plan, it didn't happen, and the Wild and Natural instinct in my planting took over, as it always does, I really do try to be all organized and orderly, but gosh, I just love the way things go wild and become the Clash of the Titans so to speak..The i. nils seem to ramble so nice on the tomatoe patch, it worked out so nice last year, I just had to do it again. The Tall Grass and the Tall wild flowers ( weeds my husband calls them) and the sunflowers and cleomes seem to make good climbing grounds for I. nils. I have the tall showy evening primrose again this year, but they have been pulled down by the i. purps, and you can hardly see them, but the moths find the blooms, and that is good.
I told ya all this one was elusive, it is in the shade in the am, and hard to get a clear shot so early.Or, maybe I just forgot how to use my camera...

These nice blues are climbing the Tall Four O Clocks by the back door, on the South side. These came to me from a seller marked heavenly blue, but I know they are not heavenly blue, as I have grown them before. I don't think he knew what he was selling. Oh well, they are pretty anyway, and they do look heavenly I guess.

Another nice surprise, it looks like it is the I. Lind blooming, but it is not. Tag says FROM EMMA. Gosh, I hope it is a GS. It also did not want its picture taken clearly and is to the left of the chair, in front of the water fountain tub.
Tommorrow, I should see a nice new Gypsy Bride Hige open up. The Alba moon flowers are all budded, how kacited I am. OH! I better go see if I have one open ! Gee, I can't stand to sleep when these things are blooming, too afraid I will miss out on something. Poor Joe, he gets up at 3 am to go to work, I go to bed. LOL
I was so happy to see the volunteer white I. Purp from Emmas mix I planted last year, twinng around the tall sunflower out back. YAY!

I love blues. Blues make you feel cool, when it is hot. Blues make you feel happy, when you are not. Blue can be a feeling, the sky or a song, and you can look at a morning glory, and feel its song. Blue can be icing, on a nice cake, blue can be dancing, a swan on a lake, blue can be smiling, when you know all along, that no matter what is blue, you can't go wrong. Well, blue hair, could be wrong I guess..

On the patio, in five pots, there are about twenty seeds planted from everyone. If you see your Blue, please holler up.

This is an unidentified no id purple from the swap. Pretty sure it was from Helen. It is large and beautiful..
Purples are nice. Purples can give you lots of smiles too. Purples remind me of Prince. I loved him when I was younger. Purple reminds me of the grape arbor I had in California. Purple reminds me of the stains my little sister has around her mouth and on her bellie from eating mulberries off the trees. Purple reminds me of grape pop cycles, kool aid and
those smell good water markers we used to use for our children. Purple reminds me of Passion, a perfume I used to wear. What does purple remind you of?

Thanks, everyone for stopping by..The other Rayed star is Mauve, Emma. I didn't know they make a pink! erm,, there is a pink that is.

I am so happy I have GS blooming! YAY! ;)
Normally I go in at 8 am on Fridays, but I might have to make it 8, just so I can see what is blooming. If I didn't have so many new ones ( morning glorys) I would wait until tommorrow.
This just opened in a nice 6 pack along the south fence up a branch I put in there for it to climb.

Each bloom looked like it had a colour block, but I couldn't capture it.

I started these cannas from seed. neat looking things. I am keeping them in these pots so I can watch the hummers close up. That is a nice soft dark blue morning glory there. I love it.

On the patio table, I have a Crystal Willow growing from Gardener2005 that I purchased. It seems to like climbing that pole.

Another hot 105 today, supposed to get up to 107 tommorrow and 105 on Saturday, then it is supposed to be in the 80s on Sunday, which is normal for us. Maybe a chance of rain, here is hoping. mean while I keep watering in the am darkness, and the pm darkness. No Mildew on things YET. I will get my milk spray out Saturday evening and give everything a bath.

This bloom is so pretty and fluffy. The vine has tons of new buds all in arow. I suspect we will get seeds from it, they are loaded with little pollinaters.

You can see this one has something in it..
