Hello everyone. Lillie is no longer with us! She passed away about 10 minutes ago! I am going to copy and paste to other threads, and I am off to bed!
Love you all for the prayers!
LK
She's about to...52
LK I am sorry to hear that about Lillie. I'm sure this is hard for her parents, but sometimes these things are for the best. Get some rest.
Linda Kay, so sorry for the loss of Lillie, so very sad.
Heaven now has a new "Little Angel"
And a perfect little angle at that!
Thanks for all the wonderful thoughts and prayers everyone!
Don't know what I would do with out all of you here!
Lillie made us smile when she was with us, LK, and made me appreciate more the little things in life and just how precious they are.
Spent a couple hours mowing, just how you want to spend a gorgeous Saturday morning, then played fetch with the new girl, and had cuddle and play time with the kitties. Then it was back to work cleaning out more clutter. The back of my Explorer is almost full again for a second trip to Goodwill. Seperating Goodwill from yard sale from trash. One of our neighbors brought us a few veggies from his garden yesterday and we decided then to hold another community yard sale over Labor Day week-end. This time I mean it, whatever doesn't sell is being donated, no more packing and unpacking.
We haven't named the new girl yet, happ, but are leaning toward Wiggles Dixie Rose...sort of a twist on "whistling Dixie". When I whistle and call Dixie, she comes running...lol I don't grow Roses so that may be for Confederate Rose since I grew up in SC and my Mom grew both. Funny how different regions of the Country call those nasty hitchhikers stick tights. Around here, they're called "beggar lice", I have no idea why since they aren't related to lice...lol. You must have had your hands full with Sam. What a mental pic you painted :) OH, Dixie totally destroyed one of our screen doors on the back porch yesterday and DH moved her lead out by the White Pines.
Get this, we made the last payment on DH's truck last month, always paid online, and today received a $0.31 refund check! My wheels are turning...31 whole cents...lol I'm an ex-bean counter and understand the in's and out's of accounting but geez, that check probably cost $25 to process.
How was your trip, Debra?
fotv, had to laugh about the back door....sorry, but I can so identify! I can just see your faces as you see the door. Dh has decided to let Sam run free all night, 2 nights now and nothing has been eaten except him chewing on some old branches, fingers crossed. If your puppy is like Sam, Wiggles is a great name, when I call Sam he comes running and he knows to sit when he gets up by me, but he is soooo excited his behind about throws him on the ground cause he is wagging his tail and wiggling soooo hard from excitement. I llove the name, good one.
Love the pic. That is a beautiful butterfly.
Went shopping the other day......got a kim lilac and a japense maple and a coffee cup elephant ear.....so excited. The elephant ear is probably 8 feet tall with these really big ears that cup up. It is in this itty bitty tiny pot. Course every 2 seconds it is getting blown over. Oh yeah it was a real trip getting it in the car with everything else (Ford Focus).
I posted on the other site, family reunion tomorrow, 110 heat index tomorrow. We aren't eating until 2:30 and knowing my family that is always LATE it will be after that if we are still alive.....I can see it now on the 6pm news........NEWSFLASH, entire family croaks from heat exhaustion amid a family reunion. Major problem for the city, no one is left alive to claim the bodies! Never said my family was the highest on the gene pool but who in their right mind would pick the first week in August to have an outdoor event that includes people from 86 years old to 2 weeks old? hummm, need to check maybe there isn't a fork in this family tree.
Oh yeah, I am going to cut back some coleus again. I am going to try to root them in August, IF I am successful anyone wanna swap? I sure didn't have any success thru the winter last year, but this year I think I am going to try to get one of those heat mats and see if that will help keep them alive. I have 3 different varieties at least, maybe more, can't remember now. Nothing like a challenge.
Happ...you got me laughing a ton with your reunion remarks. Good luck with that. I'll be thinking of you.
Fried Fruit I'm glad the new little girl is presenting you with challenges. :0) I'm, finding that I didn't realize how sedate life was before I the new furball. Seems to be recovering nicely now. Even though he is supposed to be restricted I have released him as of this morning. It was eiher release him or build a new house. :0)
Off to make some cards. Need to keep up with that so I have lots to send to all my buds.
Awe, I like the name wiggles. Seems to fit him pretty good! We have a siberian husky, and when we first got him several years ago, we did not know he had anxiety problems. Todd and I went to town on a Saturday morning to get groceries, and when we got back home, he had opened the living room window, that we left cracked open, and ate his way through the screen! Needless to say he does not stay in the house when we leave any more!!!
LK our husky was high strung like that too. Except he didn't chew on the house he chewed on himself. :o(. Poor guy spent his whole life sprayed with bitter apple.
Beautiful blooms! Is naked lady a lily? So pretty!
Oh Linda I am so sorry about your little Lillie Marie. My heart and prayers for you and your family.
Bonnie was so happy to see me, it was a surprise birthday party for her and her kids dmailed me about it.
Those brug blooms are beautiful, and so are the naked ladies, mine are all done now. Joyce you made me laff, but I will pray you have a nice cool time somehow.
Missed you, Debra, and it sounds like you had a good time. Was Bonnie surprised & did you sing Happy Birthday?
LOL! Glad Pye's ok again and back to his antics. The new kitties are using their litter box :) In the pic, Pye's look-alike is playing with Round-Up the runt who looks like he's saying, "Make him let go of my ear!"
When we were traveling with hubby's job, one of our neighbors had a Siberian Husky puppy named Rascal. Boy did that name fit him. The owners were a young couple who worked during the day and in a manner of just a few weeks wrascally Rascal had virtually destroyed their new camper, chewed absolutely everything in sight. Then they got the bright idea to tether him to their awning. I was out in the community veggie garden one afternoon when I heard the worst crash. Yep, he broke the arm holding up the awning and at the same broke the glass in two windows and their front door. Course Mickey thought Rascal was one of his BFF's.
happ, got a nice chuckle out of that. Did everyone leave with a full stomach and hugs all around?
Fruity I got some pictures at Bonnies will download them later, but Yes, I did sing happy birthday from all us here at Shes About Too..
cuty kitty
OMG I can't describe the unbearable horrible heat. Hit 100 out in the country! Ok with the cousins wisdom of making the reunion today they choose the shelter house that was atleast a football field away from the parking lot! Risk getting a ticket $150 if caught driving on the burnt up grass. No water available, not one tree in site. Really nice playground on black rubber.......my thought instead of cooking hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill we could of just went ahead and cook them on the slides. Course they probably would of been burnt on the outside and raw on the inside from the slides being too hot! As far as I know we didn't lose anyone to heat exhaustion yet...... Needless to say it was the fastest reunion in history, show up, eat, and leave! LOL..... I am sure we missed a fork in the family tree somewhere along the way..................
That sounds good, Debra. I'd like nothing better than having the chance to meet more DG'ers face-to-face. So far I've only met 20 or so foks, and that includes a few spouses and friends.
happ, Have you taken your head out of the freezer yet & kicked back under the A/C? OMG, how could any of you stand that kind of heat in the middle of the day?!
"Show up, eat, and leave" sounds like my MIL at Thanksviging & Christmas...LOL! I love her dearly but she always makes out like a bandit and takes so many plates of food home, she doesn't have to cook for a week. Hey, check out a bloom on the "Pretty Crimson" Mandevilla you gave me last year. It is thriving and I'm so glad I babied it pot-and-all inside last Winter. It's one of DH's favorite blooms:)
What a pretty bloom, glad it made it. I love mine. I have two, one is real viney and the other isn't which I thought they all were.....My caladiums are doing so good. I just love those, I do have some of my whites that have brown spots, so I am guessing they are getting too much sun or not enough water? Your black kitty looks like my "Hairy".
I had to go back out and water, but not until I cooled off some from the reunion. It was soo hot that people could hardly talk....LOL TV just said we hit a 100 and this is the first time in 3 years, our average is 88 this time of year, it is 90 at 9pm at night....LOL How is your weather fotv, has your weather gotten better?
Wish I would of seen Bonnie, glad she is doing good. Debra we are going to have to meet up one day, keep thinking I will end back up in Wichita for more than a day just don't know when.
Our weather here says it will be triple digits for at least the next week! 101-103... That is just too hot!
Love the crimson mandevilla, it is a pretty red!
Glad you had your re-union. Short as it was, I bet you still h ad a good time. Maybe next year they will re-think the date?
Debra, glad you got to see AuntB, hope she is doing well. We do miss her here.
Her Brugs are blooming sproadically, last year in October while I was there they were all in full bloom. right now they are hot. LOL we all are!
she has lost alot of weight since I saw her last. I am sure it is from working that greenhouse job all spring and summer. That was a big place she worked at. This is one of her hibiscus bushes and it is huge. Like me she brings her stuff in for the winter. She does have alot of help there , tho.
I wish I did.

Oh my, her place is so pretty. Tell her I want some of that last plant (hibiscus?) you just posted, that is so pretty. I have never seen one like that!
Plans for Lillie. So far, I know that she will be cremated, and some ashes will be placed in a lillie plant, and some will be put into special necklaces. The rest will be buried, where Ashley and Ethan will rest next to her when their times come.
What a wonderful way to remember Lily. Her parents are so young for such a tragedy in their lives.
Well gosh folks. Yesterday was just one of those days and I am way behind here. LK the Naked Ladies are hardy amaryllis. They smell like lilies though.
Had to put little Pye back on restricted activity since he opened up his wound again yesterday. That has been interesting to say the least. There just is no place inside that he can't get into trouble. We are trying to contain him on the screened in porch, but it is so hot here I hate to do that. Just now DH let him inside and he is climbing on everything and knocking stuff over. I am beginning to wonder if I have lost my mind bringing home another one of these guys. :0)
Fruity my mandevillas are the only thing looking really good right now. I always tell people if I could only buy one plant every year it would be a mandevilla. They always give a big bang for the buck.
Well I have to run again. Even as hot as it is here I have to work outside a little today or else.
Stay cool ladies,
happ, I'd like to trade Coleus cuttings, unrooted is fine. Will take pics of mine today so we don't duplicate. That shouldn't take long since I only have 5 or 6...lol Do you want yours rooted?
Loved the Bonnie tour, Debra. Does anybody know the name of the pink / purple plant left of the Fish fountain? Cool foliage.
Just think, Neener, when you have two kittens they'll just keep each other occupied...LOL!
Just think, Neener, when you have two kittens they'll just keep each other occupied...LOL!
That is my fondest wish right now. :0) I'd love to trade coleus cuttings with you all but I'm not going te send the mealie bugs on a round the country trip. Can't believe how far down the tubes the coleus here have gone. Going to let them all go and start with some new stock next year.
Wish you could be sharing my chair right now. The hummers are flying around the feeder outside my window in droves.
I think that plant is an Hawaiian ti plant, not positive but sort of looks like one, fotv.
I thought maybe I would root the coleus here and then wrap and ship and see if they would do better, what do you think? Sides I can't send now we are still at a whopping 114 feels like temp, and it feels like it....NROFL....just kidding, I think I am still laughing.....a little, did have a rain shower at 4:30 this morning so I bet when the sun came up it was steaming..... so I thought I would take a bunch of cuttings, get them rooted and then send. I have three really good coleus going, total of maybe 5 or 6, but 3 that are beauties and seem to be tuff. One I grew all winter and it survived, didn't look so hot in the spring but has perked right up!
Our T-storms this PM have passed, most of them went right around us anyway, but we did get a good soaking rain for almost an hour that cooled us down to the mid-80's. Now it really feels like a steam bath outside.
happ, why don't we shoot for sometime in September or early October? That way I'll have a chance to root cuttings for you too. All but two of mine came from you, Faye, in June. Didn't you tell me these were originally from Neener? lol...As the World Turns
If anybody else is interested in rooted or unrooted cuttings, just let me know.
#1 is Limelight
Joyce you are right, that is a Ti plant. I can't member its name tho. I have had some mealy bugs on my salvias, but not on the coleus. I did get alot of nice ones from the gebhardts Coop, but my cuttings from last year are my favs.
I just made four cuttings to rrot of limelight. It is from last year, they grow huge in my basement ( the coleus do)
I have a baby purple ruffles from seed, I can't wait to see it grow ////
Linda that is creeping jenny and it looks really good there. I see it is the darker green one, didn't I send the lime charturuse one? if not u gotta have it.
Love that choc mint, fruity, save me a piece and I will save you a Wine something LOL.
