Nice start.

MargaretK - what a pretty bird that New Holland Honeyeater is. Nice one to start out with.

Great start Margaret! Thank you! Beautiful shots.

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Nice photos, Margaret. That's a pretty good-sized fish in the talons of the Osprey. And, the New Holland Honeyeater always makes a good photo subject.

While at my grandson's soccer camp last week, this Red-tailed Hawk sat close-by so I had to briefly excuse myself from the soccer activity.

He stayed around for a couple of days but I haven't seen him recently. This one was taken during a cloudy morning.

Wow! Nice start to the new thread Margaret!! And Linth nice follow up with that beautiful Red-tailed Hawk!

Marlton, NJ

Great shots of the Red-tailed Hawk Linth! I love their eyes.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Wonderful photos on that last thread everyone. I keep getting behind here when I try to catch up on the gardening-with my camera nearby (of course).

Margaret, spectacular shots of the Osprey and that Honeyeater. Thanks for the wonderful start of a new thread.

Linth, so glad that camera was with you at the camp. I'm sure you got great photos of the kids, but your hawk pictures are wonderful too.

This is one of my first Brewer's Blackbirds juvies that was trying to find his way to the feeder above him.

This juvie Scrub Jay was grabbing at the pesty bee and actually caught it. Of course I missed that picture.

Nice ones duc! Love the Goldfinch and the Jay eyeing the bee.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Thanks for the new thread, Margaret. That Osprey got a real nice meal. Does he have any intention to share? ;)
I"ll never tire of seeing your Honeyeater, he's gorgeous.
Linth beautiful hawk. Always liked seeing them in the wild.
Duc those are lovely pictures, of your birds, I like the one, where the jay is ready to catch that annoying bee.

A male Hairy on the peanut feeder.

This Robin is a proud parent. The babies hatched Sunday, the parents have been busy, bringing food to their young ones. The nest is at eye level with my deck, about 20 feet away. Unfortunately, she build her nest, half way behind the trunk of the tree. I will only be able to see them, when they get bigger.

Gosh, miss a few hours of checking in and get behind!! Wonderful shots all. Seeing all of these great pictures make my day.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Thanks Margaret for the new thread, wonderful pics. everyone. Linth I especially like the Redtail Hawk at your grandson's soccer camp. What a nice time to be had. Family time, birding time. ^_^

Great Egret by the pier.

Or could that be a juvie little blue heron?

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Burn, great job with your Hairy Woodpecker and warbler! Congrats on the Robin babies. I look forward to seeing the fledglings. The Crows look cute all together there.

Adel, glad you're seeing Osprey too.

Lily, cute pictures. I would call that an Egret. Our heron babies are the same color as the parents.

Here's a Bald Eagle flying by the house again. This one was quiet and I didn't hear him coming as I usually do.

This juvie Oriole was looking for bugs I think.

Duc, it's so nice you get to see the Bald Eagle right on your backyard. Our local B.E. nest is inactive right now. DH and I have tried to return to the site a couple of times these past few weeks and didn't see any activity there.

Your juvie Orioles are soooo adorable on the Hollihocks.

My bluebird babies are 12 days old and already poking their bills out the opening. This taken last evening.

His eyes are open, He's just squinting because the afternoon sun is reflecting off the house.

Here is a mockingbird from a few days ago. We have several pairs still nesting in the yard.

And a cardinal from the last time we had rain -- which seems months ago.

Dave, I do feel for those little BB fledglings at this time of year--brutal heat of summer. The poor Cardinal looks pitiful, however, he must felt much relief with whatever little rain there was.

It was a treat for me to find this flock of Canadian Geese in our neighborhood driveway yesterday afternoon.

Lily, that little cardinal male is just beautiful. Hope the geese didn't leave you too many piles to have to clean up.

Dave, the bb babies are adorable. I hope they won't cook in the birdhouse. Great timing with the mocker flying and I think that cardinal is so sweet.

I took this photo of the juvie Brewer's Blackbirds a couple days ago. I think the male was testing how tough he can be and not allowing the female near the water.

Here's another blackbird juvie. I love the gold eyes in the males.

I think the Spotted Towhees are such pretty birds.

Great pics everyone....I have a question:

Do anyone know why some birds have red, other yellow and some black irisses (eyes)? I was wondering if it has something to do with their environment and what they feed on....or is it just so, as they say.
