My zinnia's are yucky looking, always seem to get that way this time of year. Flowers are fine but the foliage gets rust. I don't use chemical's cause of the butterflies, If I do have to break down and put something on them I snip the flowers off so the Butterflies and Hummer's won't nectar from them. We got a good rain Sunday, but we need it again. I guess it's all over a very hot summer, but I have NO WISH to see snow......nope, nadda, not this girl !
Zinnia Zowie - I bought the plant two years ago and saved seed and planted it again last year and this........it's an eye opener !

Don't I remember you having to bring in all your plants for the winter and now you have to do it for some in the summer? Oi Vey!!

LOL...I was just thinking that too....well, actually for some seeds I was starting...too hot outside...
I've got to get back outside, waiting to bring the horses up as I have to keep them up till around 6:00 cause it's still too hot to turn them back out. Was chasing a hummingbird around the front yard trying to get a picture of her on the Red Porterweed....
Here's the Porterweed....and a bee on the far right........no hummer....little rascal too off !

my zowie zinnias did not come up, if they did, they havn't bloomed, and I planted 23 kinds of zinnias , only about 5 so far .

Thinking it's had enough of winter (we're in mid winter here) this Caladium decided to come out anyway. But it's in for a surprise, today our temperatures have taken a big nose dive. I think this Caladium's going to crawl back into its tuber shortly.

Grevillea pteridifolia is a winter flowerer, they're blooming now. They drip so much nectar you can see it all over the ground below the trees.

A lot of different Acacias are still flowering now. This looks like Acacia difficilis, but I don't think it is. It was in the wrong habitat, although, it may have strayed.

Utricularia fulva spends most of the wet season under water, so the dry season (winter) is its only opportunity for flowering. It forms dense carpets on sandy banks of streams. There's nearly 30 species of Utricularia in this area which is the acknowledged world centre of diversity of the genus. Many of the species are endemic to this region.

The Eucharis Lily has decided mid winter is its time.

A new acquisition, I bought it as "Gardenia Vietnam Star".. I liked the flower and the unusual seed pods. Have never seen it before. The tag said "Ideal for tropical climates. This evergreen perennial has beautiful perfumed flowers, bushy habit with average height of 1.5m. Prune after flowering. Water well during flowering season. Full sun." It does have a sweet smell, but not strong. It's flowering well now. And I've noticed in full sun it tends to wilt a bit, although perhaps it needs more water than it's been getting.

Originally identified as Hoya golamcoana, later as H. densifolia, this one flowers all year, but in bursts. It's going through a flowering burst now, then will probably rest a few weeks and then off it goes again.

Another flowering prolifically this time of year, Verticordia cunninghamii.

I have it in a small container and the deer kept eating it down to nubs, but it keeps coming back. Probably would have been much bigger if I had managed to keep them off the deer sooner. I have it on my deck now.
