Cantaluope? ....

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

I had put in some veggies a while back ( I do totally organic gardening for veggies) and I had written the time and type down on paper, But, I lost the paper and now I don't know what kind of cantaloupe I have, It was the first time I ever planted this particular kind and I can't find the paper so I totally forgot what kind it was, But, I have never seen this size cantaloupe so was wondering if anyone has an idea of what kind it might be, It still has some growing to do, But, It's allready a foot long and about 22" around, I tried to post a photo, Though it's not a very good one, It kinda shows what it looks like.

The other problem I have is that I planted corn at the same time and figured that I would just go by the date on the paper to know about when the corn would be ready, But, Again, Lost the paper and now have no date, Had soo much going on that I just can't remember what was planted when without the paper I had written it on, How do you know when the corns ready for picking?? I did pull back on the top of the ear and it didn't seem like the corn was done yet, But, The top silk is turning brown? Don't know what to do now?

Iris, sister!! I can so relate to your dilemma! Nice looking melon, though.

Can't help you with the corn problem. I can tell you that your melon will be ready when it slips from the vine. Not much help, am I?

Hey stephanietx! I have a lot of Senior Momments and losing that paper was one of them! LOL! I have 3 of those mellons, All good sized and I know that you have to wait untill they come off the vine by themselves, But, I have never had any grow this big and just have no idea what kind it is.
The corn looks good, But, Because of the browning silk, I'm a bit worried that it might be drying out before it's ready though I try to keep it watered ( We are having a heat wave here that has lasted about a month and not much rain at all)

If we're lucky, Farmerdill will come along and help. You could shoot him a DMail and give him the link to this thread if you want.

Sorry, I am not going to be much help. There are many cantaloupes with that general appearance. Might be able to narrow it a bit, if you know which vendor supplied it. When the silk is brown, the corn is usually done. at any rate you have taken a peek, if it was too immature just wait about three days, should be ready.

I had got it from a small nursey by my area, I guess I need to go back there and ask. Thankyou for your help Farmerdill, I will check the corn again in a few more days.
