Went to a small greenhouse grower downstate today....all the perennials were $1.00. I bought 2 rudbeckia, dianthus, an echie, 2 sedums, a penstemon, delph, yarrow, & a hibiscus....all for &10.00! Here's the delph...
What have you ordered or want to 2010 #9
WOW what a great deal!!!
almost worth the drive!!
Nice!!!
I was planning my fall bulb order.....didn't Sheepers used to be cheaper than Brent and Becky's?
nice score Robin!!!
Thanks...now I have to plant them!
Nice acquisitions and you can't beat the price for sure. You even have some cooler drier weather to do planting in, doesn't get much better that that, congrats.
Gooders RD. Scheepers is my fav catalogue for eye candy.
Mine, too....and their warehouse is just up the road apiece....can't go in however, but that might be a good thing!
receeved my order from avant gardens - everything arrived good although struggling in this heat even with a watering every other day - need to get them in the ground today!
You should Bill....I planted everything today, calling for showers tomorrow, so I want to take advantage of them.
everything is in
Good for you! We haven't got a shower yet, but the western sky is darkening.
Jen you had me thinking of Fall bulb orders, so I double checked the prices between B&B's and Scheepers. I found one that was cheaper from B&B but the other stuff I got was cheaper at Scheepers. So I think it depends on the bulb. I ended up placing an order with both companies. I found a few things at B&B that other places don't offer.
Today I stopped by Harmon Hill Daylily Farm and picked up a daylily and an Allium. The DL is called Longlesson Ballad.
Those are beauties Pixie! I love the pink tint I see on that peach one. Very pretty when enlarged! :)
Wow....I love the dark one!
Good work Bill. Dark clouds is all we got here. They came and went with no rain.
Those are pretty DLs. I need to redo the DL bed here. Get three or four new ones that I really like a lot to add to ones I have that I like. Get rid of a few "came with a bunch" that I don't like. Most are looking pretty sorry right now I'm afraid.
Funny, every type of bulb I wanted was cheaper at B & B
It pays to shop around! My DLs are looking pretty bad, too, Pat, except for some late bloomers from Olallie's, & one called Candie Dwyer, that's been blooming on & off for a month, & I just put it in last fall.
Just received my order from Snowpeak iris....I had an email earlier, saying one of the iris I had ordered was not available, & I could sub and get a higher priced one. Well, I said OK, & gave a couple of choices for subs. There were 3 out of the 5 I ordered not shipped, the subs aren't a higher price, & I don't even like them....one, a bonus I guess, is not listed & I have no idea what color it is.....I'm very disappointed!
:(
Does anyone know where I can get a yellow fringed orchid. I've searched the internet, Daves Garden, Google, White Farms. No one seems to have it!!!!!
Hardy or houseplant, Frank?
Try the orchid forum--they have some real experts there. I went to this website to search, and they said search needs to be more specific.
Some good websites to check out

Aww Robin that IS disappointing! I would be p'od!
Robin, just so you know, a lot of the growers in the Pacific NW are scrambling to fill their orders. They had a lot of rain, and a lot of rot. I know everyone on the iris forum has been talking about how a lot of the growers have had to sub, or delete, and a lot of them sent out smaller than normal rhizomes. Very sad.
Crazy weather conditions, isn't it? My friend Sharon in Kentucky has not seen rain since the first week in June, and in the PNW they've had it daily.
I made the trip to Tranquil Lake Nursery today. It is a 2 hour drive each way, for me. If you haven't heard of it this is their website http://www.tranquil-lake.com/ It is supposed to be the largest Daylily farm in Mass and aside from Olallie I am pretty sure it is the largest in New England. If it isn't please tell me of the others that are bigger because I'd love to check them out too! : ) So I left with 5 new ones, 3 of them are past bloom season, but I have pics of the other 2 because they were in bloom today. One of them wasn't on the price list so the very nice women helping me named Linda, said it wasn't available, but I lucked out and the owner came back just as we were finishing up and said he'd sell me some! So woo hoo for me, I got a DL that they weren't supposed to be selling! : )
Parade Guest
Love Shaker Dance! Parade Guest is pretty, also. Polly, I know about the rain, so I won't write a negative report on Garden Watchdog, but I didn't order any blue or purple iris, & that's what the replacements are...:( I guess it's my fault as well....I should have asked for a refund.
Very pretty Meredith, what others did you get?
Sorry to hear about your order Robin, but I think a lot of the growers are having a hard time with the weather this year. Hopefully you can find a spot for them and they will surprise you or donate them to a worthy cause or gardener.
Oh I love Tranquil Lake and wish I could get over there as often as I used to. Nice selections. Was there a lot still blooming? The early season of mine makes me wonder if a lot of theirs also have bloomed earlier than normal. They are the next town over but still means about ten miles away. The lack of rain also has no doubt had an effect. I like Shaker Dancer too, if they are blooming a lot now it must be a nice vigorous plant.
Glad you're understanding, Robin. Must be you like the brighter colors? I origionally had wanted my gardens to be mostly blues and purples, now I'm finding I actually love yellows, and I never thought I would say this, oranges.
I have had some wonderful historic daylilies from Tranquil Lake. Beautiful plants. Olallie too. Has anyone been to Greywood Farms? That is my dream place to go to, for the Japanese irises, but also for the daylilies. The owner Darlyn seems a wonderful person.
Oh, and another great place for daylilies is Saxton Gardens. They have been hybridizers for many years. I've never visited, but have ordered many daylilies from them, and they were excellent. They don't have a website, but will send a catalogue if you email them. They have some really tall ones, and I love anything tall. They are in Saratoga Springs, NY.
I want some of the new fancy daylilies, with the chicken fat edging, or the huge distinct eyes. Any recommendations would be appreciated. And not the 200.00 ones please. Eek.
Polly, I went onto the lily auction last year & won Carnival Mask for $15.00....It's an awesome, eyed DL, with a very large bloom. I have Candie Dwyer with the "chicken fat" edging, but the color is streaky...it was about the same price. I've been ordering iris that aren't blue or purple, not because I don't like them, but because I have too many in those colors....I like bicolors with white, or copper & yellow, also have only 1 pink variety.
Now that's more like my price. I am signed up for the lily auction, but I've never bid on anything. Thanks.
I looked up a picture of Candy Dwyer. Very pretty, and I do see the streaking.
I love those bicolor irises, too.
