Lily, we're in the mid to high 90's here too every day. Mama cardinal is so sweet. I wonder if both the flicker and the red-headed will make nests in that tree?
Nanny, that's interesting that your orioles are starting to leave already. I think I've lost some of mine but it may be because of too much traffic on our decks with the house painters. I have not idea what a baby dove looks like and have been wondering that same thing. All mine here look like adults.
Burn, what a beautiful Purple Finch. That chickadee is just the sweetest little thing! I'm very sorry for the sick dove-poor baby.
GG, your grackles are adorable. Hope that water was cool. I have to keep changing mine and ice cubes sure are melting as fast as I put them in.
This California Towhee was doing his/her mating dance along our deck railing.

Great shots everyone!
I hear them GG.
Beautiful pics of the Orioles duc!
Nice catch there hg.
I just read about how KF nest or tunnel, and 2weeks ago I dicovered a digging site on our verticle ditch, about 2 ft down from the top...well we started having phone trouble. To make this short,i think the phone people digging around the same spot, phone digging to the left and ?? to the right(is abandoned now) .Has me wondering if the King Fishers were planning on a nesting site ???I will be watching very closely , there is a 27 acre lake across the road and 3 lg ponds and our wetlands within 1500 ft from us and less. What do you think ??? Its got me going... LOL
hg, I wished someone with more knowledge of the KF will chime in on their nesting behavior with us. The last two posts looks like wrens but I can't be sure which kind. They're cute little birds.
I've a pair of Cardinal nesting in my bamboos in the front yard. So I sent out more seeds on a hanging flatform-like feeder for the hard working pair. Guess who promptly claimed the feeder? A different kind of bird! LOL
Lily, cute photo with your cardinal. I don't think you can ever have too much water around for the birds. Our hummers love it when my DH sprinkles the lawn and the larger bushes.
Hugger, what a lucky photo ops for you. He's just beautiful!! The big plus was that he was sitting still for a couple seconds. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you've located a nesting spot. Let us know what happens.
I've really enjoyed seeing a larger crop of Scrub Jay juveniles this year.
Nice pics everyone!
