Lovely collection!!! I'm seeing the monarch activity pick up. Here's one on the common milkweed (along with some pesty japanese beetles). I was hoping she'd lay some eggs, but she did not.

Nanny, don't forget that the RSPs don't have the tail!

I hope the Monarchs lay lots of eggs this year...we hardly had a dozen come through last migration.

I thought we just started this thread? Howdy everyone, been a while since I posted have a few pics to share, so many nice shots here. I truly think this is the best forum!

I knew that was somebody I should know!! I just don't usually see them with their wings closed! DUH

It is a great forum....IMHO the butterflies should have a separate one...but I love the hummers too.

NANNY...I haven't seen one in my yard yet but they are a few in the area.

I agree. I mean, over on the Birdwatching forum we have hummer threads with lots of great photos and lots of chatting about plants and feeder...all that stuff!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes it just seems like a better fit there. However when they combined it, the thinking was that the nectar plants would be much the same for them and butterflies / bees. Regular birds don't nectar as much.

Butterflies are such happy bugs. I'm pretty sure they are just here to make us smile.

While checking my Hackberry tree for cats I kept hearing the growl of an angry Mockingbird. When she nailed me in the back of the head I realized why. Technically for the bird forum but allowable in the process of caterpillar hunting.

Every year I have a decent population of the Queens. Somewhere I have a cool pic of a dozen or so roosting in my Tabebueia.

This an example of what you DONT want in your butterfly garden.

Nanny here is that pic I was telling you about I had to remove the tree because it got sick.

Great pictures Viceroy! Cute one of the baby mockers too. The polyfill looks like someone has some torn up deck furniture. LOL!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

That is just so cool Viceroy! To bad the tree had to be removed.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh, nice ones Viceroy. Love the roosting one. I've never seen roosting!

Kissimmee, FL

Thanks guys everyone I show the picture of them roosting says it is not typical of Queens. It was very cool to watch and very sad to have to take the tree down:(

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Was it taken during a freak cold spell you guys had in FL?

Kissimmee, FL

That pic was taken in September of last year. The weather is still pretty warm for us.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I remember us having really bad cold fronts early last year and thought you might have too. I know that when the temps drop butterflies can't fly and have to roost.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Boo Cold! Yay Roost!

Here's my first painted lady of the season (that I know of). And a friend…
