My Silver-spotted skipper seems to be beginning to pupate.
DAILY BUTTERFLIES Page 77
So sorry about your dog Nanny. It is so very hard to loose a pet. Glad the butterflies are cheering you up a bit.
Nanny...you mentioned the loss of your pet and the butterflies, and it reminded me of my habit.
When I loose a dog I associate it with the butterflies I see.
Our Chelsea was a white pekenese/ spitzs mix and her ears flapped when she ran across the yard. She is my marapoosa blanco (cabbage white butterfly). My Heidi was a terrier, black with spot of white on the neck and feet. She was fast and strong....the Silver-Spotted Skipper is her symbol. Then the last I had lost was a dauchund...named Red to us. She is the Queen butterfly for her white specs in her red-orange coat on the old girl.
They all brightened my life just like the butterflies do.
Oh so nice to see all the butterflies are picking up. I hope to see more ETS in the yard this year. Didn't have much last year and not a single Giant!
that's so sweet Shelia. I'm not sure what my dogs would be. What is the troublemaker (but cute) butterfly!? ;)
Congrats kim on the cats!
I haven't downloaded my pix yet, but I'm glad to report that after three years of trying, I finally had a Monarch eclose successfully. She came out yesterday morning and I set her in the sun. She was a beauty!
Congrats on the Monarch butterfly eclose Marna. I'm looking forward to raising some of my own this year. I'm so happy I finally see some cats. in the garden.
Ms Ed.....Maybe the Gulf Frit...they seem to try to run all the other butterflies away and are very good at seeking out the vines.
Congrats on the Monarch, hope you have many more behind that one.
YAY!!!...Congratulations!!
My large BST gut purged earlier this evening so I am hopeful for success here this time!
I am not sure what kind of BF Buddy would be...he was a min-pin weighing in at 8-9 pounds but thought he was big & bad...especially if momma was holding him!! LOL
Lots of butterflies around today. Really trying to figure out would bring the frits in. DH said I could get another butterfly bush if I want too.
I had a frit the other day in the garden! I was surprised as I've never seen one here. Usually just in meadow areas.
ahhh...okay. I have some dwarf one but no tall ones this year. Will make note of that!
Oh they love the gold/orange short ones too. I think they are more attracted to them because of the color.
nice eyeball to eyeball shot!
Ditto to what Sheila has said. lol. I love Zinias but I haven't had much luck with them. One of my neighbors however, she has a small collection of them I'll try to get some pic. next time I visit her. They look fabulous in her garden. I hope she's gardening for butterflies too, but I don't know if she's for sure.
The Pearl Crescent really enjoys my daisy;
That is one of the ones I have and can't get straight on the ID!!
I made a collage I think 2 are the same BF but not sure since one is very tattered. I would like to label them with the correct names to help if someone can ID for me! I feel soooo dumb.
Do not quote me, but I think this may be one of the black form of Tiger STs. I don't do well on the STs there are too many that tend to look the same!

Nanny, I don't think the Gulf frits come up this far north. I see a few sightings on Butterflies and Moths, but not very much.
Sheila and Kim, that would be my guess on the swallowtail too (Dark Tiger).
I've had 'puter connection problem this afternoon, thus I couldn't reply earlier. Marna, Sheila and Nan I looked up the Eastern Tiger Swallowtails and I saw the remarkable resemblance! Hah, for Nan and I just one more added confusion. (Nan, I meant that in a very possitive way; signed your friend; Kim).
yah, there's like four of them that look so similar@!
P.S. the picture above of the TST; doesn't she look 'preggy'???? I'd love to find some eggs and possibly some wiggly babies? LOL.
Looks like a Great Spangled Frit
Thanks Jmorth., great shot of the Summer Azure.
It's beautiful, was that in your garden?
Looking good everyone!!
Ooo, I love your fall Asters, J. Will be looking forward to them.
Burn I'm not sure that's Great Spangled Fritillary. If you look at Jack's photo, you'll see that his has a light band between the spots. Perhaps an Aphrodite? Not sure, maybe Dale will be along to tell us.
Last year was my first time seeing the wave of GSFs on larvenders. They were spectacular a sight in Tennessee Mountain. A sight I'll never forget. I saw a few here earlier this month. Then a couple Gulf Frits. Yesterday evening I noticed this Clear Wings Sphinx Moth. And here it's again on another of my Butterflybush. Cool little thing, looks somewhat like a bumble bee, and half-way of a hummingbird too.
what a pretty bloom AND skipper.
