Lily, the flight of the Gulf Frit is fast and eratic unlike the floating or gliding of a Monarch. So if it skipped past I bet it was a GF....either way maybe you will get some takers!
Great Nanny! Where there is one, there are probably more!
I have a False Indigo plant that has never been used as a host plant ....until NOW!!
I have identified it to be a Silver Spotted Skipper, which have been flying around all week! I am taking this one in since it is already pretty large.
DAILY BUTTERFLIES Page 77
Cool!
Oh, thanks Sheila, I can't hardly wait for my GFs or Monarch. Last year I had lots of success with GF, not with the Monarch's cats...so I hope this year I'll better lucks with them. Nan, wooohooooo plum large cat. is ahhh ready to pupate any day. lol. Congrats. I like that butterfly, will leave the I.D. to a more experienced person.
Nanny....that seems to be a Pipevine ST...see the deep crescent row of orange dots on the dorsal wing.
You are so right...I forgot all about the pipevine...man I have awhole bunch of these around. I knew the orange dots didn't really match either one I mentioned and that confused me!
Thanks Shelia!

I think you just confused me! LOL!
i think my second butterfly may be a lace winged roadside skipper. what do you think?
tlc, I'm so glad for you having so many different butterflies where you're. Nan, love the color combo on your last pix. I can jump up for joy! Ya'll, I've seen a pair of GFs in the yard just now!!! Wooohoooo, I'm gonna hunt for eggs and keep those hatchlings safe from the mean wasps outdoor!
I don't try to id many of the skippers, they are too much alike.
Great pictures everyone.
tlcgarden, your picture shows probably a 'spittle bug' ...googgle the bug for more info. Please. It's a pest that I know. Jm, nice Cabbage white on Morning Glory vine? It's pretty.
tlc, your unidentified looks like an Eastern Comma, summer form.
Howdy folks.. you can imagine my happiness when I found this thread..though i will not be able to put my photos on daily, as I have a camera that uses film.. I will try to post as soon as I get them developed. On that note.. here is my favorite photo from last month.. I was sooo happy that I was able to get 12 shots before the Eastern Tiger ST flew off....
same ST.. can anyone tell me if this is a female or male?? I am guessing it's a female due to the fact that after a few days of seeing this bf I had several caterpillars on my parsley & fennel! Of course they didn't live more than two weeks befoer they disappeared!! ( by the way.. this shot was taken June 11, 2010)
tlc...yours is a Question Mark http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/57/
Cindy yours is a female I believe...and the cats you saw were most likely Black Swallowtail caterpillars. They lay eggs on parsely & fennel. I am raising 7 BST cats right now!
Tigers use Tulip, Poplar and Cherry trees among others.

Oh...Congrats on the cats!! lol
I am not 100% sure but I think you have a male there Lily...but I could be wrong!
Aren't they just so darn pretty! The funny thing is It is like out of the blue they are just everywhere here...at least at my house! In fact, I have all kind of butterflies here the last few days!
We decide they were sent by angels to cheer me up since I lost my little dog this week.
Those are beautiful Nanny, and yes I am sure they were sent by angels to make you feel better.
Funny thing though, the angels must have been very busy, because we have a lot of them here too.
Josephine.
